A mattress fits the frame fine, but a mattress and a box spring would be too tall for the part at the foot of the bed that keeps the mattress from sliding off, as you can see in the picture. Inside this shelf lip or edge it measures about 13.5 inches wide and 11.5 inches deep. so technically the laptop would not simply rest on top of the shelf, HOWEVER it is metal, very strong and If you place a board on top of the shelf or place some kind of filling to make it level the shelf itself should be able to hold a lot of weight. Yet again it might be possible for a laptop to slide off such an arrangement and fall to the floor? I suppose if you use some material that would resist such sliding you might be able to make it work? Or purchase a long strip of heavy duty Velcro and you could wrap that around the neck of the shelf and your laptop to better secure it on top of a board and whatever arrangement you do. The shelf is GREAT. Perhaps the manufacturer has other sizes? If not this is a strong shelf. I hope this helps in your decision making. |
