At first they seemed to float upright (with tails still touching bottom) a little when the water was shallow, and a bit of current from the water from the faucet was moving around. After it was full, a good 5-6" above their upright standing height of their heads, the dolls settled horizontal on the bottom. Hope this helps you in your decision. Answer:	Usually that is a warning that the boat is getting out of range of the remote. If you ignore it and the boat does get out of range, you won't be able to make it come back. You will have to retrieve the boat physically. Alternatively you could change the batteries on the remote since low batteries could also cause low signal strength from the remote. ALso keep in mind that the boat must be in the water for it to work. There is a safety feature that doesn't let the boat work if it is somehow out of the water.
