It grinds easily no matter the size, sometimes I want a finer grind so it is easier to mix the pepper into what I am cooking, other times I like to use a larger grind. This style allows more control over the size than the normal department store grinders that you typically see where the single screw that holds the top on also determines how fine the pepper is ground. |

| Answer: | Yes, but why? Chia seeds turn gel-lateness when exposed to liquid. The challenging question is will it grind flax seeds? Flax seeds are indigestible if not ground. The answer is: yes, for about a month before it breaks. It’s a lot of work and your hands will tire. But 40 turns (that’s 80 half turns) every few days and you’re in business. (Flax needs to be freshly ground and refrigerated.) About the grinder: it has only 1 flaw, otherwise it’s very well made with high quality materials. The flaw is they used a little nylon bushing between the crank handle and the crank shaft. If it were metal on metal with a set screw to hold the handle on, it would have lasted forever. But this nylon bushing strips out after a month or so (15-20 uses?) This means the handle slips on the crank shaft and won’t grind the seeds. I’m still using mine several times a week because I threw away the handle and attach an electric hand drill to the crank shaft. (Very fast and no aching hands anymore.) I haven’t found anything on the market that reviewers say will grind flax. So, other than going out to the garage twice a week, I’m happy with it. It’s very pretty on the shelf. |
