User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone wetsanded after using the clear gloss? How long did it take to cure |
Answer: | I wetsanded the clear gloss over this and it all came right off, sanded down to my fricken primer with 2000 grit. I couldnt believe it. I have to repaint the whole thing now kinda blows.... |
Question: | How does this compare to the dupli color gunmetal that I see on Amazon, as well |
Answer: | This is graphite or charcoal wheel paint color |
Question: | Will this match well for 2014 BMW painted alloy wheels |
Answer: | I used on my 2014 BMW 528i Rims, I also uses the clearcoat to protect is from scratching easily, works great |
Question: | Do you have to primer, first |
Answer: | You should and it will run less and cure better, but you don't absolutely have to. If you skip primer, you have to degrease and clean the entire wheel in soap and water, then wet sand the entire surface to get through the clear coat or acrylic barrier in the paint layer, 800-2000 grit until the entire rim looks hazy when you wipe it dry. Then clean it with isopropyl alcohol, and use air to blow any remaining fibers or debris away from the wheel. All your coats must be 5-30 minutes apart, not sooner, not longer. First two coats, just lightly dust it, don't worry about coverage. Next coat should be a light overall coat that is not wet and glossy (pull it back!). Once that tacks up a bit, then you can apply a medium wet coat, by repeating the light coat you did over and over until it STARTS to look wet and glossy. Don't keep going over a spot that already does. Let it cure untouched for 7 days. Your paint will be good. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How does it handle in the snow |
Answer: | It will cling to dirt and mag chloride more than a sheer metal wheel or powder coat, so it requires gentle scrubbing to keep clean, not just a power wash. The snow itself does not affect the longevity or durability of the coating. Great way to protect wheels from chemical corrosion through a salty winter as long as you take steps to prevent overspray and apply the product thick enough to be removed easily (I'd estimate 5 coats). If the coat is too thin, you'll likely damage the wheel trying to scrub/peel it off. |
Question: | Do you have to sand the wheels or peel the stock coating off first |
Answer: | As others have stated, sanding them is completely unnecessary and will damage the OEM finish of your wheels. Simply clean them, dry them and apply. Enjoy the dip as long as you like, and then peel it off to go right back to the OEM finish. |
Question: | What are the temperature requirements? Can I put on at 40 degrees |
Answer: | 40 degrees what? Celsius? Fahrenheit? |
Question: | Is a kit just 4 cans of paint |
Answer: | Don't let the seller fool you, 4 cans of plasti-dip at Walmart would be $23.28 plus tax. However, their actual kits with bags and pre-dip are well worth the little extra money. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it good for curb rash |
Answer: | Yes if the color matches |
Question: | Does this work on alloy wheels |
Answer: | I have alloy wheels and it worked great! After about 500+ road miles and a 10+ track hours they still look good. My wheels were getting so that power washing them did not clean them up well so paint was the option I picked. |
Question: | How many rims did the two pack of spray cans paint? Enough for all 4 rims |
Answer: | Yes, easily coats all four wheels. |
Question: | Did you apply a clear coat after applying this paint |
Answer: | not yet as I am waiting to see how the brake dust cleans off the wheels after the track days and then determine if a clear coat is needed. So far early observation is no clear coat needed. |

Question: | Does it come with the plastic bags to cover brakes |
Answer: | No, but we can include them if you need them, you can use home trash bags too |
Question: | How many cans will I need to cover a 1997 Chevy suburban K |
Answer: | Aerosols are not appropriate to cover entire vehicles. You will need at least 6-7 sprayable gallons and need an HVLP spray for a vehicle that size. |
Question: | How long it can last on the bumper ? can hold on power wash |
Answer: | I'm not sure about a bumper but I had it on a rip for over a year and it's just not starting to wear off. It depends on how many coats you put on and how well you take care of it. Also I went through a power wash about once or twice a month. Hopefully that should give you an idea. |
Question: | Will this work If applied to the hood of a car |
Answer: | I used 2 cans plasti dip from walmart, black matte, on my carbon fiber hood. 4 years and has yet to peel. I added 3 more coats in oct 2019. Mistake was doing it in heat and humid weather. So can see dry dull spots is best i can explain. But overall it holds up really well. Do it in an enclosed area like a Garage. Thats what i did my first time came out best. 2nd time was out doors in carport. At night with humid weather..bad idea. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would this be good to use for a cover on tailgate I don't use it a lot but need some protection |
Answer: | Yasss!!!! This stuff is awesome. The only real work i had to do was scuffing out a patch of rust. You need a couple layers. But one can was more than plenty for my Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Crew Cab. I was able to go over it two times. I used it in my heated garage. So the drying time was quicker. |
Question: | Can you paint over chrome with it? How should you prep the surface |
Answer: | You will have to scratch the entire surface for the paint to stick. Us a Carbon scuffing wheel, or maybe course grit sand paper. |
Question: | How is the durability of this product? i have a 2007 xl7. thinking about spraying stock fender flares and ground effects |
Answer: | I sprayed it on my tailgate of my truck about six months ago and is holding up well. You want to sand whatever you spray first too get a good bond. |
Question: | Im primarily looking to stop reflection off the hood of my car. Will do the job? Thanks |
Answer: | It should stop reflection. Just make sure you clean the surface and sand it really well with coarse sandpaper before you apply the bedliner. |

Dupli Color's acrylic enamel offers exceptional quality in general purpose paint and primers. The EZ touch fan spray nozzle ensures consistent results and ease of use. A superior, high-solids formula ensures maximum coverage and performance.
- Fit Type: Vehicle Specific
User questions & answers
Question: | If using on vehicle will it help using an adhesion promotor beforehand? I know it has one in it already. And add clearcoat to protect it |
Answer: | I wouldn't! This is a really nice quality paint and adheres nicely with no 'bubbles' or 'webbing'. I used the white on my 2000 Olds Alero (I have since sold it and purchased a newer/used vehicle). The paint job on that car was awesome - it held up so well over the years. The 'spots' I used this pain on blended so well, that you'd be hard-pressed to see exactly where it was applied! To be honest, I wish my 2016 vehicle (which is also white) had the quality of original paint the Alero did! It's not nearly as sturdy and seems to scratch if I look at it wrong! But I digress! Point is, this paint is really good and I would definitely purchase it again for other uses! Great stuff! |
Question: | Can I use this on my car |
Answer: | yes like any paint make sure the surface is clean and dry A light scuffing wouldn't hurt either |
Question: | Can I use this to conceal deep scratches in my chrome shower arm and make it look like new |
Answer: | I would think that if you manage to place the shower arm in such a way that the paint can sort of fill the cracks, this could work. The only potential problem (and I don't really think it would be a problem), is that you would also be spraying where there are no scratches. Hopefully, if the scratches are deep, spraying from the right distance and being sure the arm is flat, the paint will do its' own self-leveling! |
Question: | has anyone used this to decorate a ceramic christmas tree |
Answer: | i would try it on a small piece and see how it turns out, Then go for it if it looks good! |

User questions & answers
Question: | can you use this on say, an exhaust manifold heat shield? or is that too hot |
Answer: | Actually, you can. If the engine is naturally aspirated, this will work fine on heat shields and direct application to the exhaust. If its Turbocharged, it'll only work on low boost application. Not safe for high boost applications as the exhaust system, especially the manifold, as they go through extreme heat cycles. |
Question: | would this paint work on plastic? I'm looking to paint my engine cover |
Answer: | As long as the surface is prepped right it should work fine. |
Question: | Do you need a primer |
Answer: | I used the plastkote primer. turned out great |
Question: | is this a "rubberized" paint like the typical plasticoat I'm used to |
Answer: | I don't know what you're used to, but this is a classic car engine paint that looks like paint used in the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's. |
