9 best forney welding helmets
Forney welding helmets are a product line of welding helmets designed to provide essential head protection and eye safety for welders during welding and related activities. These helmets fall under the category of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are commonly used in various welding applications. Here's what you should know about Forney welding helmets:
Safety and Protection: Forney welding helmets are primarily designed to protect the welder's face, eyes, and head from hazards associated with welding, such as sparks, intense light, UV radiation, and debris. They are an essential piece of safety gear for anyone engaged in welding tasks.
Auto-Darkening Technology: Many Forney welding helmets come equipped with auto-darkening technology. This feature automatically darkens the lens when it detects the intense light produced by welding, providing instant protection to the welder's eyes. When welding stops, the lens typically returns to a lighter shade, allowing the welder to see clearly without removing the helmet.
Variable Shade Control: These helmets often have adjustable shade settings, allowing welders to customize the darkness of the lens to suit the specific welding process and conditions they are working in.
Comfort and Fit: Forney welding helmets are designed for comfort during extended use. They typically feature adjustable headbands, cushioning, and ergonomic designs to ensure a secure and comfortable fit.
Helmet Styles: Forney offers a range of helmet styles, including standard fixed-shade helmets and auto-darkening helmets. The choice of style depends on the welder's preferences and the specific welding tasks.
Durability: These helmets are constructed from sturdy materials to withstand the rigors of welding environments. They are built to be durable and long-lasting.
Compliance: Many Forney welding helmets are compliant with safety standards and regulations, such as those set by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Additional Features: Some Forney welding helmets may come with additional features like grind modes, sensitivity adjustments, and delay controls to enhance versatility and convenience.
Graphics and Customization: Some models may offer customization options, allowing welders to choose helmets with various graphics or designs to suit their personal style.
Forney welding helmets are essential tools for welders to ensure their safety and comfort while performing welding tasks. When selecting a welding helmet, it's crucial to consider factors like the type of welding you'll be doing, the helmet's comfort, and its safety features to ensure it meets your specific needs and preferences.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this item for TIG use |
Answer: | I installed the Hobart headgear in a Harbor Freight helmet so the part arrangment was a little unusual. I installed a flat washer under the plastic tension knob on the outside of the helmet. All other parts were on the inside of the helmet. The unit has been in use for about 1 year and has performed very well. |
Question: | Has anyone tried switching the headgear will a Jackson 370 fit |
Answer: | Yes it should work fine as a replacement Headgear. |
Question: | Hood pretty light? Good head gear |
Answer: | I don't know. I install the headgear in a HF hood with only minor filing to the attachment holes. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this fit my hobart xtf |
Answer: | I believe that's the best way to explain it |
Question: | Will this fit a Forney 55800 flip lens helmet? If not, do you have one that will |
Answer: | I have a Hobart, a Jackson and a Miller helmet. Each has slots that the cheater slides into on the inside lens, so I haven't needed an adapter and am not sure there even is one. The cheater does not fit any of them perfectly, but it is very simple to center it in the slot to locate it where you need it. It does take some "getting used to", as everything is suddenly in your face when you strike an arc. Good luck and Weld On! |
Question: | will this fit the EN 175 helmet |
Answer: | The lens size is 4.25" 108mm X 2" 51mm |
Question: | Will this fit the honeywell pipeliner |
Answer: | This head gear will not fit the flip front passive(non-autodarkening) hoods. Your hood requires part# 770004. |

WE ARE WELDING
It’s been almost 90 years since Forney Industries was established with James D. Forney began selling his invention of “The Forney Instant Heat Soldering Iron” door-to-door across the heartland. With ingenuity and determination, JD advanced his business. It didn’t take long for farmers and ranchers to realize how useful his inventions were. Eventually the Rural Electric Association granted permission for salesmen to climb utility poles to hook up welders for demonstrations. With the increased exposure to JD’s products, his business began to expand. Soon he would broaden product variety with battery chargers, welding supplies and more. By 1943, Forney Industries had over 1,400 products from 150 outside suppliers.
Today, Forney offers thousands of metalworking products within four categories: welding, abrasives, personal protective equipment and shop tools. JD Forney’s grandson, Steve Anderson, is now the President and CEO of Forney Industries, and is committed his customers success; a legacy his grandfather began all those years ago. One day JD’s great grandson, Dane Anderson, will lead the company and that same legacy will be running four generations strong. Much has changed in 87 years, but the foundation of Forney Industries remains the same. After all, Welding in America isn’t just a slogan, it’s the backbone of this company.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is a #10 shade dark enough to look at the eclips |
Answer: | I don't think so. |
Question: | Is the glass half gray and half black as shown in the product image |
Answer: | Yes, I use it for TIG welding. It would also be fine for MIG, Arc, and other electric arc based welding systems. It is too darkly shaded for oxy-acetelyne gas welding systems. |
Question: | Can this be cut down to size needed |
Answer: | No. |
Question: | Will this work for photographing the eclipse |
Answer: | Only complaint I have is the adjustable strap is very rigid in mine. Don't fit my head, its either too loose or too tight. Other than having to turn the adjustment knob all the time its a good helmet . |
