Switch Between Welding and Grinding in just 2 to 3 Seconds -- all with Your Gloves On

This helmet also comes with the 3M Speedglas Silver Front Panel 9100XXi, which offers the convenience of switching between welding mode and shade 3 grinding mode with a simple "gloves-on" touch of an external button on the silver front panel. There is no need to remove the helmet to change these settings. Memory modes allow accessing one of two pre-set welding modes. Both memory modes have an individual setting for dark shade, light to dark switching sensitivity and dark-to-light delay. An instant "Grab and Go" feature automatically turns the welding filter on to your most recent welding setting whenever you pick up the helmet. To save on power, it automatically shuts down after a period of inactivity.

Auto Darkening Filter Reacts Quickly After Striking an Arc The Speedglas lens features user-selectable dark shades of shades 5, 8, 9 through 13, and a light shade of 3. With a viewing area of 2.8 inches high x 4.2 inches wide (72 mm x 107 mm), the 9100XXi provides the largest viewing area available in the 9100 Series helmets, and an expansive field of view that helps the welder to see the work in progress with minimal obstruction. Three arc detection sensors in the lens activate the auto-darkening filter when an arc is struck. The lens then switches from light to dark shade in approximately 0.1 milliseconds (1/10,000 of a second), giving the welder an instant transition from light to dark shade while maintaining an optimal view for torch placement and weld puddle control. When the weld is complete, the filter automatically returns to light shade 3 with a delay of approximately 40-250 milliseconds, allowing almost immediate inspection of the weld pool and preparation for the next weld. Exhaust vents readily direct your exhaled air out of the helmet, helping to reduce heat, humidity and fogging of the welding filter.

The auto darkening filter can help reduce the need to flip the welding helmet up and down between torch placements, which boosts productivity by reducing the stop-and-start time needed with passive lens welding helmets. This feature can also reduce neck stain from “helmet nodding,” while greatly increasing the accuracy of torch placement. The helmet’s battery life is approximately 2,000 hours. Answer:	Richard, My short answer is "yes". The MM910 sanding pad uses diamond dust for its surface; therefore, the expensive price. It is designed for "grinding" cement, plaster or mortar. Your situation might call for conventional sanding pads (MM70W or MM70P) The MM910 attaches to the Multi-Max tool through a MM14 hook and loop pad (think Velcro). Some companies make after-market accessories that retrofit to other brands so you have another avenue to find cheaper accessories. Answer:	Yes, this is a good option for welding outside, however any welding helmet with an autodarkening filter may be challenged with direct sunlight. Shielding your work area with a welding curtain is helpful. If that is not possible, you may want to consider one of the new passive lenses that are available for the 9100. Answer:	I don't know much about the part numbers, but this model does have side windows. Every 9000 series hood has them, I believe.

Auto Darkening Filter Reacts Quickly After Striking an Arc

The Speedglas lens features user-selectable dark shades 5, 8, 9 through 13, and a light shade of 3. With a viewing area of 2.8 inches high x 4.2 inches wide (72 mm x 107 mm), the 9100XX provides the largest viewing area available in the 9100 Series helmets, and an expansive field of view that helps the welder to see the work in progress with minimal obstruction.

Three sensors in the lens activate the auto-darkening filter when an arc is struck. The lens then switches from light to dark shade in approximately 0.1 milliseconds (1/10,000 of a second), giving the welder an instant transition from light to dark shade while maintaining an optimal view for torch placement and weld puddle control. When the weld is complete, the filter automatically returns to light shade 3 with a delay of approximately 40-250 milliseconds, allowing almost immediate inspection of the weld pool and preparation for the next weld. Exhaust vents readily direct your exhaled air out of the helmet, helping to reduce heat, humidity and fogging of the welding filter.

The auto darkening filter reduces the need to flip the welding helmet up and down between torch placements, which helps to boost productivity by reducing the stop-and-start time needed with passive lens welding helmets. Answer:	Yup, I've had mine two years, daily user and still the same batteries.

Answer:	The hood doesn’t have an external switch to change between welding and grinding, it has an internal press button type switch. You have to raise the hood a bit to select weld or grind because the switch is located at the bottom left on the inside front part of the hood.

Answer:	Yes it does. There a "Mode" button that switches between grinding and welding settings.
Question:	How fast does it darken
Answer:	Instantly, I have never been flash blasted once wearing this Jackson hood. There were even times where it annoyed me at where I was working because the lighting wasn't the best and if I angled the lens up even on the lowest settings towards the lights it would darken. It only happened in that very specific situation and outside of that one area it never happened. This is by far my personal favorite auto darkener. 10/10 for me.

Answer:	the speedglas is probably one of the best helmets available. it does offer magnification lenses to help see the weld. if you have issues with darkness the helmet you are using may be either improperly set or may be experiencing an issue with the battery or the display has gone bad. ask your instructor how to adjust your lenses.

Answer:	Yes, comfortably.
Question:	Would I ever need to buy batterys
Answer:	Only if the helmet was stored in the dark away from light most of the time. Does not have to be direct sunlight. Just in a place that gets at least indirect sunlight. The batteries will also need to be replaced every couple of years to hold enough charge to work well. Cost around 10 dollars and takes a minute or two to install yourself.
