Answer: | you could run them off of any 5vdc source. 5vdc wall worts are very common. most phone charger ipod chargers etc are 5v output. Go to Goodwill (resale shop) half the ac adapters on the wall will be 5v. I used these lasers for a student project with Arduino controllers they were surprisingly bright. The focus was not very good (big oval) but the collimation (beam spread) was acceptable and the brightness made up for the lack of focus. Be careful the wires are delicate and will need heat shrink applied over body to make them durable enough for even mild flexing. |

Answer: | Yes it can, I just did it and it's fine. Here's the thing, the beam fans out as shown in the pic. You have to realize that the collimation is different. I mounted it at about a 45 degree downward angle on my circular saw and it projects fine and, in fact, far beyond 8 feet. |
