Answer:	The AA batterys is for backup only.. If u are on a situation were u can't charge the Lantern u can pop in 3 AA batterys .. Or say u don't have power and the Lantern dies in the middle of the night... instead of cranking the dynamo to charge the battery 10 min of crank at 120 rpm for a hour and half of light.. Some may find it easier to just put 3 AA batterys in for All night backup power .. And I'm not 100% sure on this but if you put 3 rechargeable AA it may give u evern more on time plus recharge AA rechargeable batterys win it's plug to change the Lantern..
