Solar will not be much better, even in direct sun. Answer:	Before you proceed with the return process, try pressing the button on the bottom of the lantern one (1) time to switch its' state. The switch may actually be in the OFF state. Even if this the case, it should have still charged the lantern but would fail to light as it became dark outside. After pressing this switch and simply covering the solar panel to simulate night, the lantern should now light up. If it still fails to work you may want to try charging again as I may be wrong as to charging operation with the switch in OFF state. After this, if it still fails the lantern is definitely bad and should be returned. As to returning all four or just the one I would contact Amazons' customer service. They may allow you to return just the faulty item for replacement or require you to return the entire set - it's their option. They might(?) even replace it without returning the original product - as they did for me on a completely different item - due to return shipping cost verses the cost of product being replaced.

Answer:	I can't tell you the exact dimensions, but you don't have to use the lights with the stakes. For instance, I have 4 torches in my backyard with the full height stakes. They stand about 4ft tall. I also have 2 lights that we take in our RV. We don't use the stakes at all on those. I set them in a small pot that has a PBC pipe in the center. These lights have enough of a neck that you can set them wherever you want. I don't have photos to show you. Sorry...

How to use the lighter? Step 1: Fill with kerosene (please see the steps below for How to refill the fluid) Step 2: The side cantilever is a lighter switch, which can be ignited by pressing the side. 2.How to refill the fluid? Please rotate the bottom fluid tank cover and then refill the lighter fluid into the chamber by the filling hole until the cotton is soaked. (NOTE: Fuel is not included due to airmail regulations.) Note: When refueling, please keep away from fire sources, and ensure air circulation. Don't overfill, just 80% full will be fine. You need to wipe the lighter clean before igniting if it’s overfilled, else all the lighter will be on fire. 3.How to adjust the flame? Make sure the lighter has sufficient fuel before adjusting. If the flame is too weak, Gently pull up the clean wick by a needle-nose pliers will enhance the flame. Cheaper to use Coleman brand Camping Fuel. Coleman is the SAME EXACT FUEL but you can buy it at Walmart for $12 for a whole 1 gallon can!!
