User questions & answers
Question: | What is the manufacture date on these items |
Answer: | Hello. Yes, but not the way you mean. When the alarms go off, there is always one alarm going off and setting off all of the others. This alarm will have a green light flashing every second as well as the red light. You have to identify that alarm and either put it in HUSH mode or unplug it and take it down to stop the others. This is intentional so that if you are not leaving the house then you are identifying and investigating where the smoke situation is and if there is danger. The HUSH mode will make the alarm require more smoke to go off and for a small amount of smoke will stop it for about 8 minutes If there is too much smoke, the HUSH mode will not stop the alarm for going off. |
Question: | If the alarm goes off, how can you tell whether it's due to CO or fire if there is no voice alert |
Answer: | Hello. Yes, this alarm comes with a wiring harness connector. |
Question: | Because its a combo alarm where is the best place to install it since smoke rises and carbon monoxide doesn't |
Answer: | Hello. The answer is no, the battery is only a temporary back up. If you want an alarm that is battery only, you will want our KN-COPE-D. |
Question: | Why does this model contain the radioactive part? I am sure you are going to tell me that it is a trace amount and that it has all approvals |
Answer: | Hello. When plugged in AC power, it is supposed to have a solid green LED light. When running on battery alone, it should have a green light that flickers every 60 seconds. If this is not what is happening, call us when you are on location with a ladder at 1-800-880-6788 so we can figure out what is going on and how we can resolve this. |
Question: | When these are interconnected with other units, can hushing one of them hush all of them? Some of mine are in places that are hard to get to |
Answer: | I paid FOR for 6 and only got 4. It’s listed as 6. I had to buy two more from Home Depot. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM. |
Question: | does it come with the hardwire connector |
Answer: | Does not connect to hard wire. Only battery |
Question: | Do you have to hardwire it in? Can it run on just the battery |
Answer: | I just checked 2 of them, and am unable to locate that information. |
Question: | How do you tell if it is working properly. Is it supposed to have a constant light |
Answer: | The back cover comes off install battery and replace |

Designed for home use, the Kidde KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk is a UL-listed, A/C-powered, plug-in CO alarm that utilizes sophisticated electronic components and sensor technology to protect you and your family from the dangers of CO. It plugs directly into a standard A/C outlet and includes a 9-volt battery backup that provides continuous monitoring of CO levels--even during power outages.
About Carbon Monoxide: The Silent Killer
The leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in North America, carbon monoxide (CO) is often referred to as the silent killer because it's odorless, tasteless, and invisible. Carbon monoxide poisoning can come about via a number of sources, including everyday items and appliances in your home or office. And because symptoms of CO poisoning mimic the flu or other common illnesses it can often go undiagnosed.
Audible Alarm Pattern Alerts you to Elevated CO Levels
When placed on every level of your home, alarms like the KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk can help protect everyone in the house from CO exposure by giving you an unmistakable signal when levels have reached an unhealthy point. If unhealthy levels are detected, the alarm will emit four quick audible beats every five seconds until either levels decrease or the reset button is pressed.
Easy-to-Read Digital Display Shows CO Levels
The KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk is unique among traditional CO alarms because of its digital display. This display clearly shows levels of CO that the unit has detected and stored-- from 30 to 999 ppm--and it updates every 15 seconds to indicate any abrupt changes or alarming trends. The display also shows the peak CO level recorded by the alarm since it was last reset or unplugged.
LED Shows Sensor Status
With the KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk, you never have to wonder if the sensor is functioning properly. A blinking dot in the lower right-hand corner of the display denotes normal operation, so you can trust that it's working. In addition, you can test alarm function by pressing the test/reset button at any time to verify that the horn and electric circuitry are operating properly.
Convenient Mounting Options
The KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk has a low-profile design that makes it suitable for any room in your home. The detector can be plugged into any standard A/C outlet; it's plug can be snapped into the back of the unit and can be rotated so the alarm remains vertical, independent of whether the electrical socket is mounted vertically or horizontally. In addition, the alarm comes with a 6-foot extension cord, so the unit can be plugged into the wall outlet and then placed on a table or shelf. For the most thorough protection, place an alarm on every level of your home.
The UL-listed Kidde KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk has a seven-year life and is backed by a five-year limited warranty.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this co alarm expire in 5-7 years like most other co alarms |
Answer: | It will last 10 years according to the warranty and user manual. Ten years after initial power-up, this unit will “chirp” twice every 30 seconds to indicate that it is time to replace the alarm. A label has been provided on the side of the alarm that has “Replace by” printed on it. Write the replace by date on the label. The date written on the label should be ten (10) years after the alarm was initially powered. This alarm does have end of life Hush® which allows you to silence the trouble chirp for two days giving you extra time to replace the unit when it is more convenient. To activate, press the test/reset button. While in the End of Life Hush® mode, will still detect CO and Smoke. This feature can only be used for 30 days from the time the unit first indicates end of life. At the end of the 30 day period the alarm cannot be hushed and must be replaced immediately. |
Question: | I want to replace all my Kidde 1276 detectors. I want one of the new ones to also be CO2 detector. Is this unit compatible with the |
Answer: | Yes. You can see that in the owner's manual. http://dms.hvacpartners.com//docs/2001/Public/0B/User-Guide-KN-COPE-I-ENG-(2528.pdf |
Question: | Can i replace a kidde p12040 (hardwired smoke detector) with this model (hardwired combo)? same company and same 3 pins on the back |
Answer: | I'm fairly sure you can. They even offer adapters that allowed them to replace my old Firex wired-in detectors. |
Question: | We have these in a 165 room hotel. They are not lasting. I have had to replace 6 and need another 6 today. What recourse do we have |
Answer: | Welcome to the club, I have been having the same problem only on a much smaller scale. Try contacting Kidde and see what they say, however if you read the installation instructions that come with each unit it states they only last 7 - 10 years before having to be replaced. I believe that is from the date of manufacture (the units are marked) and not the install date. The units I replaced are right at the low end of the replacement dates. Good luck. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will these wired ones install on old electrical wired systems? The thermostat needed an additional wire installed. Will these, too |
Answer: | Yes all the wired Nest Protect needs is the 120V hot (black) and neutral (white) wires in the electrical box connected to the plug-in pigtail that comes with the Protect. If your house has multiple detectors now you will usually also find a red wire in the electrical box that interconnects your old detectors so that if one goes off they all sound. That wire is no longer needed with the Protect so you just cap it with a wire nut. |
Question: | Can you view carbon monoxide levels in PPM |
Answer: | Yes, but only if you are connected to the internet and then only for the last ten days, and only if the level rises above the heads up level (which is 70ppm and rising for around an hour or a shorter period if over 150ppm). To counter what someone else's answer was - Carbon monoxide does NOT sink. It is in fact lighter than air (CO has an atomic weight of 28 versus Nitrogen (N2) which is also 28 - but marginally heavier (by 0.003 amu due to heavier isotopes), Oxygen (O2) which is 32 and Argon which is 40. However the weight is similar enough in the air in your house that it tends to distribute as a fluid and is measurable anywhere in a room; it really depends upon how air moves through the space. The levels tend to fluctuate rapidly as CO distributes and any outside air mixes in and additional CO is added. Overall, there is no perfect way to measure the CO levels with one device in one place, but this is as good as most people need. |
Question: | What happens if the wifi disconnects? Does the alarm sound |
Answer: | The Nest Protects and Nest Learning Thermostat create their own ad-hoc network and don't rely on your home wifi for communications between devices. WiFi is only used for communications OUTSIDE of the home to pass on alerts, etc. Even if the ad-hoc network fails the individual alarms will sound as they detect smoke/CO. |
Question: | My home has hard-wired interconnected smoke detectors. can i simply replace one with this device? i read that it doesn't use interconnect wire |
Answer: | I think very few here understand the question. National code requires interconnected smoke detectors as of 2004, there is an extra wire in the circuit and all smoke detectors are on that wire for 'signal'. When one alarms they should ALL alarm. If I am reading the answers correctly, NEST does not comply with the signal wire. However, it looks like it does set up its own wireless network to act like they are all interconnected. To be honest, after paying for the extra wire behind the wall, why would I want to by 6-8 nests at $100 each when the originals are 20-30 each? This way there is one smart point to notify if any detector is going off. Nests way 6-9 smoke detectors, 6-8 login, 6-8 ip address. Ugh, what a nightmare! |

Product description
This handy 2-pack of First Alert CO400 Carbon Monoxide Alarms utilizes electrochemical carbon monoxide sensors to monitor your space for carbon monoxide threats. The battery-powered design doesn't require an electrician; simply insert the included 9-volt battery into each alarm, and the carbon monoxide detectors are ready to go. The advanced electrochemical CO sensors detect carbon monoxide leaks from multiple sources, such as faulty fuel-burning appliances, blocked chimneys, and generators running inside or too close to homes. When CO levels become elevated, a loud 85-decibel alarm alerts you to the threat. Because CO evenly distributes itself, it's important to have a CO detector on every level and in every bedroom of your home. Designed to be simple to use, each CO detector has just one button that silences or tests the unit, as well as an end-of-life timer that lets you know when it's time to replace the device.
From the Manufacturer
Carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America, yet many people don't know they are suffering from CO poisoning until its too late. Since symptoms of CO poisoning are like the flu, you might not even know you're in danger at first. That's why a carbon monoxide alarm is an excellent way to protect your family. It can detect the CO you can't see, smell or taste in the air. The First Alert CO400CN2 2-Pack carbon monoxide alarm uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor-the most accurate technology available. The permanent sensor lasts up to five-Years. Battery access in back of unit, 9 Volt battery included. The test/silence button both silences the alarm and allows you to test its functionality. The unit monitors and re-alarms if carbon monoxide levels persist sounding a loud 85-Decibel horn. No installation is required and the attractive design allows the unit to be placed anywhere you need it. It includes an optional wall mount with no outlet required. An audible and visual low battery signal alerts you to replace the battery. Pull down action chart has convenient guide on what to do if an alarm sounds. 5-Year limited warranty. UL listed.
- Keep your family safe with this 2-Pack of easy to use, battery operated carbon monoxide alarms; Battery powered alarms provide continuous monitoring of CO levels, even if there's a power failure
- Features an advanced electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor that accurately detects carbon monoxide levels, no matter where the detector is placed in the room
- A loud 85-decibel alarm sounds when CO levels reach dangerous levels

User questions & answers
Question: | What is date of manufacture |
Answer: | If your home has a good central location, where air will circulate from most areas of the house, I would say that one carbon monoxide monitor should be sufficient. In the case of a multi-story dwelling, I would invest in one carbon monoxide monitor per floor. Our home is a good example of a single floor dwelling of approximately 1400 sq. feet, with excellent air circulation. We have one monitor in a well ventilated hallway that is common to all the rooms of the house. I hope this response is helpful in your decision making. |
Question: | Does this come with the screws for installation or do I need to purchase separately |
Answer: | The instruction booklet that came with my First Alert carbon monoxide alarm (I do not know if I bought a "model C0615" -- my alarm has NO identifying alpha-numeric) informs me that there IS an extension cord already on the back of the alarm; it also tells how to access it. I unplugged my alarm from the outlet, turned it back-side-up and true enough the 2 pronged plug you use to plug it into the electrical outlet is part attached to a lightweight extension cord that I would estimate to be about 4 or 5 feet long. The instruction booklet says that is for use by those who want to remain standing and look at the alarm "face-to-face." Hope this helps, Fat. |
Question: | why does 9 volt battery not fit in compartment- door won't close |
Answer: | This unit probably detects CO at less than 30 ppm, but is not allowed to display that level unless a button is pushed. In this case, the peak level the alarm detected since last reset is what will show, not the current ambient level. From 30 to 70 ppm, the display can show the ambient level, but the alarm will not sound until it's been in that range for 30 days, as mentioned. At 70 ppm, the alarm is not to sound for at least an hour, and no more than 4 hours. That's UL requirements, which most codes across the US adhere to. |
Question: | What is best location for CO2 detector |
Answer: | No it will fit in the bottom leaving the top for your night light |
Product description
The Kidde P3010CU is a 10-year, sealed battery, smoke and carbon monoxide alarm with a voice warning system that features photoelectric and electrochemical sensing technology with Smart Hush feature. This combination alarm combines the detection capabilities of a photoelectric sensor with that of an electrochemical sensor, which is used to detect CO. When either sensor notices a potential hazard, it will communicate with the other. Depending on what is detected, the alarm will adjust its smoke sensitivity in order to better discriminate between a real hazard and a false one. This constant communication enhances the alarm’s overall performance and significantly reduces the potential for a nuisance alarm. The voice warning system announces “Fire”, or “Warning, Carbon Monoxide” to help eliminate any confusion and clearly warn you and your family of a smoke or carbon monoxide danger. The sealed in lithium battery will power the unit for the entirety of its 10 year life, eliminating the need for battery replacement and worry about unauthorized battery removal. The alarm provides continuous protection from smoke and carbon monoxide, even during power outages. The alarm will automatically activate when it is attached to the mounting bracket; there are no pull-tabs, no switches, everything is automatic. At the end of alarm life, the unit will chirp, indicating the alarm is in need of replacement. The customer can use a simple tool such as a screwdriver to deactivate the unit, stopping the chirp and making it safe for disposal.
- Combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm – Smoke and CO sensing technologies work together to detect real fires faster and reduce nuisance alarms.
- Voice alarm – Announces the hazard type detected thereby helping to speed up the correct reaction. Alarm announces “Fire” when a smoke or fire hazard is detected and announces “Warning Carbon Monoxide” when a CO hazard is detected.
- Sealed-in lithium battery – Sealed-in lithium power supply; No battery replacement required over the 10 year life of the alarm. Eliminates worry about battery removal or unauthorized deactivation of alarm.
- Photoelectric sensor – Smoke alarm contains advanced photoelectric sensor that may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms.
- Self-activation – Alarm automatically activates when attached to the mounting bracket.
User questions & answers
Question: | sealed battery |
Answer: | Yes, it's sealed. But like most detectors like this, it will fail long before 10 years (you may be lucky to get a couple of months use out of it). Still looking for one that is reliable and meets California codes. |
Question: | Does this detector have to be mounted to the wall or ceiling or can it be left on a ledge |
Answer: | Because smoke rises and fills the room from the ceiling on down, you need to mount on the ceiling to have the earliest possible warning |
Question: | The description says "This is an aftermarket of generic part". What does that mean |
Answer: | The one I received looks (better be LOL) like real Kidde product. It comes in original package and new. Just be mindful that the mounting plate may not fit over existing AC HARDWIRE cover from previous KIDDE product. That is. This is designed for installing into new location. |
Question: | I am unclear about the always on, since i see an on/off indicated on the unit. does this turn off? i'm looking for a unit to take traveling that has |
Answer: | Once you activate it, you can't deactivate it. That is the on / off indicated on the unit. There is an off switch indicated on the label. You can scratch off the label where indicated and use a screwdriver to turn the unit off. BUT THE UNIT CAN'T BE TURNED ON AGAIN. It warns you of that on the label. So, once activated, the unit is always on. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How often do these need to be replaced because of "end of life" warning? I feel like we are constantly replacing them and don't know what's normal |
Answer: | The installation instructions for this unit notes that it can be wall mounted, "If allowed by local building codes," (check with your Buildings Department - since several codes are in use in various localities) - with the proviso that the top of the mounted unit must be between "4 inches and 8 inches" below the wall-ceiling meeting, to avoid dead air space. |
Question: | Will this First Alert unit plug into my existing BRK 3-wire pigtail connector, or do I have to buy a BRK unit? Thank you |
Answer: | Off-white. |
Question: | Does anyone know if this smoke/carbon monoxide alarm is compatible with a house full of First Alert 9120Bs (smoke only)? Want them all connected |
Answer: | Nor sure about that particular standard, but box states that it complies with ANSI/UL Standards, California state fire marshal, FHA, HUD, and National Fire Protection Association. |
Question: | I have Model No. SC7010BV. Is the same replacement without the "V |
Answer: | The beep is effective. It always seems to start in the middle of the night. I twist the unit off the ceiling and do a battery swap and have it back on the ceiling in less than a minute, craw back into bed before really waking up. It's not a pain to replace the batteries, it's very easy. Simply slide the tray out and pop new ones in. The batteries fit snuggly in the compartment and there are tabs that allow you to push the batteries out by applying pressure with your thumbs from the back side. There is an optional screw hole to make the battery compartment tamper resistant. This prevents people from easily taking the batteries to power their remote controls or whatever. When fire marshals inspect fire related deaths it's not uncommon to find the smoke and fire detectors had no batteries installed. This simple, optional, screw might seem like "a pain" to some people, but it's an easy way to save your life. This is a great unit. I have 6 in my house and I highly recommend them to everyone. |

User questions & answers
Question: | If there is a false alarm, can I turn this off from my i-phone |
Answer: | I open back back forgot I had installed alarm, I have a keypad by back door. When alarm sounded true keypad, nothing. I ran to unplug. Duh, battery operated then run to phone. Phone stopped everything. I didn't even get a call. That happened December 30 2018. |
Question: | How long does the battery last |
Answer: | At first my batteries were reporting 85% after 6 months, and again about 85% after the second 6 months. Then I helped my neighbor in the condo next to me setup a zwave system. Suddenly my batteries are only lasting 4-6 weeks. In other words, your signal strength will have a lot to do with how long the batteries last. |
Question: | Will this, if wired to an existing system, trigger a notification if a non-z-wave Alarm goes off (can I buy just one or do I need to replace all |
Answer: | I don't think this can be wired to an existing system? It doesn't have the receptacles on the back like the wired units do. So, as far as I can tell, you'd have to replace them all. As an aside, I left my wired system in place (4 detectors) and just installed 2 of these. I figured if we're home the wired system will alert us inside the house. If we aren't home the zwave alarms will trigger eventually, but potentially not as quick (depending on source of smoke) without the same number of detectors. |
Question: | are they hard wire? (120v with battery backup) and do they have an interconnect wire |
Answer: | No, thus they are not code compliant in most jurisdictions since interconnect is often required. |

Protects Against 2 Deadly Threats
Equipped with both an advanced photoelectric smoke sensor and electrochemical CO sensor, this unit provides faster reaction times to both slow-burning, smoldering fires and carbon monoxide, all in a single alarm. This combination alarm provides the ultimate 24/7 protection for your home and family from 2 deadly threats.
No Need to Replace the Battery
There's nothing more annoying than having to replace the battery in an alarm - especially during the middle of the night! To remove this nuisance, we've installed a 10-year lithium battery into our product and tested it rigorously to ensure endurance. This means that, under normal circumstances, you can expect the alarm to function for 10 years. Once the alarm reaches its end of life, it will beep twice, letting you know it needs replacing in order to protect your home.
Nuisance Alarm Protection
This X-Sense combination alarm has been redesigned from the inside out, and it will confirm that smoke triggers the alarm instead of interference by taking 3 separate smoke samples, minimizing false alarms to avoid waking you from sleep at 2 a.m.
Test & Regular Checking
It is important to test your alarm before you use it, and to test it every week to ensure it is functioning properly. Once the alarm is in the test mode, it will deliver 2 sets of 3 long beeps, followed by 2 sets of 4 quick beeps, and the LED indicator will flash red with the same frequency, indicating that the unit is operating normally. If it is not working properly, please replace it immediately.
