Answer:	The instructions that come with the unit duplicate what I have read from several Fire Department sources: you can place your unit on the ceiling, but AT LEAST 4 inches (10cm) from the wall. If you want to mount it on the wall, mount it MORE THAN 4 inches (10cm) BELOW the ceiling, but NO LOWER than12 inches (30cm) below the ceiling. It has to be high enough up the wall to "smell" the smoke, but that 4 x 4 inch (10cm x 10cm) area where the wall meets the ceiling can sometimes harbor a "dead zone" of still air where the smoke would NOT reach the detector quickly enough during a fire to warn you in time. Thus, do NOT mount your detectors too close to where the wall meets the ceiling.

Answer:	Usually a 2 year lifespan from the date of manufacture. I have always had good luck with Duracell lasting the longest, more than the bunny claims!

Answer:	It's the date usually found on the btry. On my last purchase of Duracell 9v coppertop btry's MAR 2015 is printed on the btry. The package, while it has no good to date on it says it is guaranteed fresh for 5 years. On this packaging you can not see a good to date on it until you open it and look at the btry. Therefore since it is gtd for 5 years I believe the manufacture date was 2010. Using a top rated btry like Duracell we change smoke alarm btrys every 2 years contrary to the suggested 1 year time frame of replacement. We also check the alarm function every month. • How does Photoelectric Smoke alarm works?

1. Inside the smoke alarm, there is a LED light that sends a beam of light (similar to a laser pointer) in a separate compartment inside the chamber, there is a photosensor that detects light.
2. As smoke enters the detector, the smoke particles interrupt the light beam, scattering it in many directions. Some of the LED light scatters toward the light sensor. When light beams hit the sensor, the alarm will go off!

3. Drill the two marked installation holes with a 3/16 inch (5mm) drill bit. Tap the two plastic grommets into holes with a hammer.

4. Mount the bracket to the ceiling by inserting and tightening the supplied screws into plastic grommets.

5. Connect the battery to the power connector.

6. Fix the battery into the battery box.

7. Fit the alarm on the bracket and turn the alarm body clockwise, until fully inserted into the bracket.

Answer:	The detectors with sealed batteries have a 10 year lithium battery installed, and have a slightly lower standby current draw. If the unit were to go off frequently, the battery of course would not last the 10 years. The sensing circuits on all manufacturers devices are only good for about 10 years, as this is there approximate life of the radioactive element inside the chamber. Hence, it makes no sense for a manufacturer to put a longer lasting battery in them. Units with replaceable batteries usually come with a 5 year battery, which you should replace once and then get a new detector on the 2nd battery's end of life.
