10 best portable carbon monoxide detector

A portable carbon monoxide (CO) detector is a critical device designed to monitor and alert individuals to the presence of carbon monoxide gas, which is colorless, odorless, and extremely dangerous. These detectors are essential for maintaining safety in homes, vehicles, and various other settings. Here's what you should know about portable carbon monoxide detectors:

  1. Function: Portable CO detectors are equipped with sensors that continuously monitor the air for the presence of carbon monoxide gas. When elevated levels of CO are detected, the alarm sounds to alert occupants.

  2. Safety: Carbon monoxide is produced by incomplete combustion of fuels such as natural gas, propane, gasoline, and wood. Exposure to high levels of CO can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning, which can be life-threatening. Portable detectors provide an early warning to prevent CO exposure.

  3. Power Sources: Portable CO detectors can be powered by batteries, plug into an electrical outlet, or be designed for use in vehicles with a 12-volt adapter. Battery-powered models are the most versatile, as they can be used in various locations, including homes, hotels, RVs, and more.

  4. Digital Display: Some portable CO detectors feature digital displays that show real-time CO levels in parts per million (ppm). This information can help users assess the severity of the situation.

  5. Audible Alarms: All portable CO detectors have audible alarms that sound when CO levels reach a dangerous threshold. The sound is typically loud and distinctive to ensure that occupants are alerted promptly.

  6. Peak Level Memory: Some models include a peak level memory function, which records and displays the highest CO level detected since the device was last reset. This information can be valuable for understanding the severity of past incidents.

  7. Test and Reset Buttons: CO detectors often have test and reset buttons for regular maintenance and functionality checks. It's important to test your detector periodically to ensure it is working correctly.

  8. Installation: Portable CO detectors should be placed in areas where people spend a significant amount of time, such as bedrooms, living rooms, and hallways. They should be installed at breathing level (approximately chest height) for the most accurate monitoring.

  9. Regulatory Standards: Look for CO detectors that comply with recognized safety standards, such as UL (Underwriters Laboratories) or CSA (Canadian Standards Association), to ensure their reliability and accuracy.

  10. Maintenance: Regularly replace batteries in battery-operated detectors and follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule.Test your detector at least once a month to ensure it is functioning correctly.

  11. Emergency Response: If a CO detector alarm sounds, take it seriously. Evacuate the area immediately, call emergency services, and ventilate the space by opening windows and doors.

  12. CO Detector in Vehicles: Portable CO detectors designed for vehicles are crucial for monitoring CO levels in cars, RVs, and boats, especially when using fuel-burning appliances or heaters.

A portable carbon monoxide detector is a vital safety tool that can save lives by providing early warning of a potentially deadly gas leak. It is essential to have these detectors in your home and other places where you spend time, as carbon monoxide incidents can occur anywhere there is combustion of fuel.

User questions & answers

Question: Would this device work in a 6' x 6' hunting blind with a Mr. Heater heating unit
Answer: Not for sure but wife read that rhey can fluxiate between 0-3 with no problems mine does it also
Question: your cob b lcm coc allarm is 15$ 6 is 99$ . why does quantity coct more
Answer: When I used the digital gas detector to test it worked fine.
Question: How far apart are the mounting holes
Answer: There are two possible causes. The unit was not zeroed out upon activation or you do have a very low level of gas in your home atmosphere, with the first being my best guess. Unplug and move and re-check the reading. If this does not resolve the issue send it back for a new one. Mine has worked well for 6 months so far.
Question: Why is the 2 pack more than 2 times the price of the single detector
Answer: I returned these detectors. They don't have any information printed on the case - no manufacturer name, no instructions, no UL approved indicator, etc. These were made in China which is usually okay but I am not comfortable in relying on them to protect my family. I will be researching further and looking for better detectors that can be trusted.

User questions & answers

Question: does it need to be recalibrated? How do you do it
Answer: Any incandescent/filament lamp/bulb can work with AC or DC. It won't have any good reason to 'care' which it is.
Question: I can’t unscrew the back. What tool will supposedly open it
Answer: I got this to replace the bulb in my old "Tensor" model 9100 desk lamp with a 2 stage switch. It says "Use #93 bulbs only" on the lamp bottom, so I took a shot. Not only does this fit, it puts out a much cleaner light, with less heat than the bulb that was in it, so I'm delighted. It also seems to be handling the 2 stage switch fine, and is slightly brighter on one level, than the other, though it is subtle. Do I need 10 of them, not likely, but I'm happy with it so far (about 10 minutes use, thus far.)
Question: Is the product UL certified
Answer: These say blue on the box. They are the new Premier Tubes. We receive new shipments from the manufacturer every month.
Question: Can the battery be recharged or will the unit need to be replaced after 2 years
Answer: The diameter of these tubes are 8mm. If you have any more questions, feel free to contact Customer Service at [email protected] or 800-992-7427.

User questions & answers

Question: can i fly with this for overseas use
Answer: No. This does not sync with those.
Question: These CO2 detectors have a shelf life, how do we get these with the full life of the unit? Some are already past the exp. date
Answer: Yes. Batteries are included.
Question: Will this give your exact co level even if it's normal or only if the co is dangerous
Answer: This PL-259 Jumper Cable is usually used for HAM & CB Radio, Antenna Analyzer, Dummy Load, SWR Meter. If it is used for WIFI modem, you need to check if your device has SO239 connector.
Question: is this good for travel
Answer: Loss in a co-ax is a function of frequency. Assuming we are talking about the 12” patches. At 1ft of RG58 run 14MHz(20m band) it has a 0.013dB loss, at 440MHz (70cm band) it has 0.08dB loss... which yeah if you add everything up it could be rather substantial. As a patch cable though. If you want to try patching with a LMR400UF, that’s all on you, but you can’t beat the flexibility of RG58 If you’re going to attempt to run say 100ft of RG58 on 70cm yeah... 90% of your power goes to de-icing the feed line. It all depends on your application :D 73 de KN4GEI

User questions & answers

Question: How do you reset this? It has an old reading that I'd like to clear so its not confused with any new reading.I tried turning it off and recalibrating
Answer: Coming from a professional pencil salesperson, if you are experiencing a lot of color pencils that are breaking when you are sharpening them, and you are using a single blade type sharpener, most likely your blade is dull and is putting too much friction on the color cores, and snapping them off just inside the wood casing. I would try changing the blade out on your sharpener or purchasing a new sharpener to not waste color pencils. An Alvin brand 9866 or 9868 brass sharpener style is a "lifetime buy" since the sharpener is indestructible, and the blades are cheaply replaceable.
Question: Does this register carbon monoxide levels lower than 9ppm? Will the display show 5ppm for example or just 0 to 9ppm
Answer: Sorry, I have not used them with cra-z-art colored pencils. However, I feel they work best with oil based pencils instead of wax based. Cra-z-art may be waxed based?? Sorry...
Question: The plastic holder cracked. Can I buy a replacement
Answer: I use oil pencils to add finer details with oil pastels. These work with the oil pencils but you do need to be careful not to go over the oil pastels with the same force you would use on the pencil marks because you can chip away layers of the pastels.
Question: Does this unit record and save readings
Answer: Yes!!! I hadn't heard it should but I just tested and I can go through my coloring with a wet brush and nothing happens. Wish I could post a picture for you to see but don't know how. :(

User questions & answers

Question: How long is its service life
Answer: No
Question: How to calibrate
Answer: Not sure if it's suitable for K88h watch .This charging cables are for LETSCOM ID205L,ID205S and ID216
Question: Meter doesn't show a # between 1-1000ppm, instead it shows "0L" Does this mean meter is defective? This is brand new out of the packaging
Answer: Hello, friend, This replacement charging cable is suitable for our Letscom ID205L smart watch. Not sure if can work with umidigi watch Hope it helps you Best Regards, Customer Service Team
Question: Can this be left out specifically as an alarm in a camper? Typical home alarms don't work well in small spaces cause they go off too easily
Answer: Yes, water does tend to get underneath of it so I take it off most of the time but sometimes I use the opportunity to take off the protector and wash it as well.
Question: I want a device to test my home gas fireplaces at start of season. Is this want I need
Answer: If I'm understanding your question correctly, yes. You can print anything as long as you have a printer.
Question: What's the difference between this and the more expensive versions up to
Answer: Nikki, Derwent Lightfast are oil-based colored pencils. They are NOT used with water. If you are looking for watercolor media, you might want to try Derwent Inktense Pencils or Intense Blocks. If you're concerned with colors fading over time, most of the Derwent products have a good lightfast rating. Hope this helps.
Question: Can anyone please confirm if it gives readings below 35? ie 1, 8 etc? (important) Manufacture/user have different statements... any owners chime in
Answer: Go to Derwent’s website. They have a complete color chart that shows which colors are in which size sets. I got there by googling “Derwent Lightfast Colored Pencil Reviews”. As you know, it’s a UK company, but they have a US website. BTW, the largest set available in the US right now is 72 pencils. They apparently have a set of 100 that is available only in the UK but is coming here in the hopefully near future. I’ve been told that this very consumer-responsive company has been kind enough to provide a set of the new 28 colors for those of us who have the other 72 already. Also, if you sign up for Dick Blick’s emails, they have promised an alert as soon as the new sets are available. They won’t deluge you with a million emails a week either. Hope this helps.
Question: Is this overkill if i a Avg joe who travels a lot? I'm not a pro user, just need a good portable loud alarm for my family
Answer: Yes. Go to the Derwent website. There is a UK site and an American site, I ordered the newest individual colors from the UK because the individual pencils were nit available in the IS at the time.

Question: can this meter be used in automotive applications and if so is it accurate enough to measure co in automotive cooling system
Answer: Hello, yes, this item includes earphone jack, and earbuds for loud environments.
Question: Is it accurate enough to mesure outdoor CO levels (<10 ppm
Answer: The Testo is a personal monitor which can be used to detect CO levels down to 1ppm. It is not meant to be used as a CO Alarm that is to be installed in one's home. The Kidde CO alarm, on the other hand, does meet UL standards to be used as an installed alarm. However, UL standards require CO alarms to sound at much high levels of CO than the personal Testo CO detector would. The Kidde will only display CO levels of 30ppm or greater.

Carbon Monoxide Detector - Portable Key Ring Lanyard Personal Low Level Fast Aircraft Travel (Key Ring & Lanyard)

Toxin Sensors

Product description

The CM-2010 features the industry's most stable and longest life sensor. The sensors never require re-calibration and have a 10 year life-span. CM-2010 includes a key ring and lanyard to go wherever you go. The CM-2010 can be left ON continuously and the battery will last many years. Check the battery before each use. When needed the CR2032 battery can be easily replaced. The louder alarm of the CM-2010 series allows it to exceed all of the recommendations in section B.2.3 of DOT/FAA/AR-09/49. Residential carbon monoxide detectors in accordance with UL 2034 purposefully delay their response for hours at low carbon monoxide levels. The CM-2010 responds in less than 60 seconds and begins alerting at only 25ppm. Alerting faster and at lower levels allows individuals to know about their exposure and take appropriate actions sooner. Alarm levels: 25 to 99 ppm, industry standard T4 signal for carbon monoxide. 4 fast beeps & flashes followed by a 5 second pause, repeats until the carbon monoxide levels are below 25 ppm. 100 to 199 ppm, 4 fast beeps, 1 second pause, 1 long beep, 4 second pause. 200 to 299 ppm, 4 fast beeps, 1 second pause, 2 long beeps, 4 second pause. 300 to 399 ppm, 4 fast beeps, 1 second pause, 3 long beeps, 4 second pause. ≥400 ppm, 4 fast beeps, 1 second pause, 4 long beeps, 4 second pause.

  • 10 year sensor life
  • Never needs re-calibration
  • Starts alarming at 25 ppm
  • Progressive alarms indicating ≥ 100, ≥ 200, ≥ 300 and ≥ 400 ppm
