Answer: I bought several boxes of these and they were oblong to fit the Petmate Booda litter box. However, the last box I bought contained square plastic sheets that had no opening and were just square cut- out plastic pieces. Maybe I got a manufacturer error box. It was crazy, but I did not buy again.

Answer: These heating elements fit virtually any 240V water heater. This is one of the better quality elements. However, BE SURE to purchase a OEMTOOLS 22369 1-1/16 Inch SAE Socket (here on Amazon) - or another 1 1/16" hex socket (Lowes has them) and a 1/2" fitting breaker bar if you don't have one. You will never get the two old heating elements out using the cheap aluminum socket most folks purchase. Price about the same, but the 'real' socket works. It will still be tough with he correct socket - so get a long breaker bar.

Answer: I took a magnet to the elements and the base. The elements did not attract as you might suspect. However, the base did suggesting to me that the base is not SS. I have not changed the elements in my heater yet so can not tell you if the base is rusty at all. It is not rusty on the outside of the tank. Hope this helps.
