14 best rinnai tankless hot water heaters
Rinnai is a well-known brand that manufactures tankless hot water heaters, often referred to as tankless water heaters or on-demand water heaters. Here's what you should know about Rinnai tankless hot water heaters:
Energy Efficiency: Rinnai tankless water heaters are known for their energy efficiency. Unlike traditional tank-style water heaters that continuously heat and store water, tankless models only heat water as it's needed. This can result in significant energy savings over time, as you're not constantly reheating a tank of water.
Endless Hot Water: Tankless water heaters provide a continuous supply of hot water. Since they heat water on-demand, you won't run out of hot water, even during long showers or when multiple faucets are running simultaneously.
Variety of Models: Rinnai offers a wide range of tankless water heaters to suit different household sizes and hot water demands. You can find both indoor and outdoor models, as well as units designed for residential and commercial applications.
Condensing Technology: Rinnai's condensing tankless water heaters are designed to capture and use the heat from exhaust gases, increasing their overall efficiency. This technology can further reduce energy consumption and lower operating costs.
Compact Design: Tankless water heaters are typically much smaller than traditional tank-style heaters. This compact design can save space in your home, making them suitable for installation in smaller utility rooms or even outdoors.
Precise Temperature Control: Rinnai tankless water heaters offer precise temperature control. You can easily adjust the water temperature to meet your specific needs, ensuring comfort and safety.
Remote Control and Monitoring: Some Rinnai models come with remote control options and the ability to monitor the unit's performance through smartphone apps. This allows you to adjust settings and troubleshoot issues conveniently.
Professional Installation: Installation of a tankless water heater, including Rinnai models, typically requires professional plumbing services.Proper installation is crucial to ensure the unit functions correctly and efficiently.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance is essential to keep a Rinnai tankless water heater running smoothly. This may include descaling to remove mineral deposits and checking for any potential issues.
Warranty: Rinnai typically offers warranties on their tankless water heaters, with coverage varying by model. It's important to register your unit and understand the warranty terms to ensure proper support in case of any issues.
In summary, Rinnai tankless hot water heaters are known for their energy efficiency, endless hot water supply, and precise temperature control. They come in various models to meet different needs and are a popular choice for homeowners looking to save on energy costs and enjoy a continuous supply of hot water. Proper installation and maintenance are key to maximizing the benefits of these units.

User questions & answers
Question: | How many BTUs |
Answer: | The expansion tank for this heater is not required. Most people already have these installed in their homes but if not then it would be Ok without it as there is a pressure relief valve on top if something happened. GlobalTowne is an authorized Bosch distributor. |
Question: | What recirculation pump will work with this heater |
Answer: | A standard flow shower head is around 2.5 gallons per minute. A low flow head is around 1.5 gallons per minute. The recovery rate for a 90 degree temperature rise is 6.8 gallons per hour! So even the 7.5 gallon unit would only provide 4 minutes of shower time before the temp dropped off dramatically. (even at the low flow rate..) |
Question: | What is wi-fi ready means and what what will you use it for ? also what circ-logic capable means? do you need recirculation pipe for it |
Answer: | If your bathtub is bigger than your main heater tank, this unit isn't going to do much for you. It will add 2.5, 4, or 7 gallons to the capacity of your main tank, depending on which Bosch unit you buy. The 7 gallon unit requires a specially wired circuit. You will also get a little bit of lukewarm water that was in the line between your main heater and the Bosch unit. Unless your main tank is awfully small and your bathtub massive, the 4 gallon unit should work for you. Maybe a demand type thankless heater in your bathtub hot water feed would be a better choice, but be careful to size it properly for your desired flow rate and temperature rise. Also a tankless is likely to require special wiring. |
Question: | Does this unit come with a vent kit? Thanks |
Answer: | When the tap is opened, the hot water in the unit flows out. The colder water that was sitting upstream of the unit, enters the unit to be heated. If the tap remains open, the newly heated water flows out, being replaced eventually, (depending on the distance to the main water heater), with the water from the main water heater. You will probably set the unit temperature to equal the main water heater temperature, if you want to keep a constant temperature, but other scenarios are possible. |

Product description
This Smart Technology electric tankless water heater is configured as a "whole home" model for climates where incoming water temperature is 67°F and above. This model is well suited for heating up to 2-Gallon per minute, which is the equivalent of one shower head (with a 1.5 gpm flow) and one sink with a low inlet water temperature of 67°F and an output setting of 105°F. Digital Temperature Control allows you to set your temperature in increments of 1 Degree. This model can also be used in colder climates as a Point of Use for a sink or other low flow application. All tankless water heaters are sized based on flow rate and temperature rise, and there is a direct relationship between the two. So if used in a cold area requiring a high temperature rise, it will be more limited in the amount of fixtures (gallons per minute) it can heat at one time compared to a warmer climate. When sized properly this water heater will provide endless hot water and only consume the energy needed, giving the user complete control. Prior to purchase and installation please verify this model is the right size for the expected demand and electrical requirements. The ECO 11 requires a minimum 125 amp electrical panel for installation with 60 amp double pole breaker connected to set of #6 awg wire. Plumbing connections are 1/2" compression fitting with the option of 1/2" NPT adapter included. For additional assistance please feel free to contact our support center at 877-474-6473.
NOTE : 11Kw at 220 is equal to 13kw at 240. .Activation Flow : 0.3 GPM

User questions & answers
Question: | Ours has only been in service for less than a year - will not adjust temperature to anything above 85 Deg. F. What do you think is the problem ? kds |
Answer: | My only guess is that the rheostat (variable resistor) that the temperature adjustment knob is attached to may be faulty. If that isn't it then I don't know. Sorry. |
Question: | The warrenty says that this unit must be installed by a licensed electrician and plumber, for them to honor the "life time warrenty." why |
Answer: | Hello Bob, The reason is the same as why an innumerable number of gadgets around the world have that little "warranty void if removed" label. Because getting inside of one requires a certain level of training and expertise. Same with this unit. GadgetsGo is an authorized Ecosmart dealer. Kind regards,HenryGadgetsGo |
Question: | My house is wired 110V. What additional items do I need to purchase for the conversion |
Answer: | Just to expand slightly on prior answers, normally a residential service feed is 240 volts between the two incoming hot legs. There is also a neutral leg, which (hopefully) has zero potential with reference to ground. The voltage between either one of the hot legs and the neutral leg is 120 volts. The 120 volt circuits in your house are connected to one or the other of the two hot legs, and only one. An attempt is made to assign circuits to the two hot legs in a way that will roughly balance the load between them. The other side of a 120 volt circuit is connected to the neutral leg. There is additionally a safety ground run with the circuit, which also ties into the panel. Certain devices require more power (work product of current and voltage) than is practical to deliver using a 120 volt circuit. Common examples are your clothes dryer, and your electric stove. These devices are powered by both hot legs, with a difference in potential of 240 volts. This water heater is also such a device.STRONG BUT FRIENDLY WARNING: If you did not already know this, please don't make wiring this water heater your learning opportunity with electricity. Hire someone who knows how to do it right. Cutting corners, especially with higher currents and voltages, can lead to equipment damage, fire, and electrocution. Electricity is not magic, and you can certainly learn how to do many common wiring tasks safely on your own, but today is not the day to begin that journey. You need properly sized components, properly installed, and connected to an adequate service. Also, if you really, really foul up, you could conceivably wind up making that morning shower more energizing than you ever imagined, if you get what I mean. So newly aspiring electricians should go fix their grandmother's favorite table lamp instead. Once they have that working they can use it to to start reading books about electricity, residential wiring, and eventually, books about this stuff: http://amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_8?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=nec+code&sprefix=nec+code%2Caps%2C164 . Of course, you still have to know not to nick conductors when you strip them, and other trade craft like that ; ) . Like almost everything in life that is fun, electricity will hurt you. Sort of like all those people you dated for a while, and then wished later you had never met. |
Question: | what amp breaker is required |
Answer: | The National Electrical Code requires conductors and overcurrent protection to be sized at 100% of the manufacturer's branch circuit recommendation for tankless electric water heaters. A 60 amp breaker is the same price as a 40 or 50, it is the wire that costs more. #6 AWG wire is required for a 60 amp circuit. If you undersize the wire it could overheat and catch fire. Protect your family and follow the manufacturer's sizing for this, or any other, electrical device. Your family's lives are worth the extra money. |

3 Smart Steps for Endless Hot Water
Step 1: Determining your average inlet water temperature is important, this allows you to determine how well your unit will perform in your desired location. A lower inlet water temperature will require a higher kilowatt product.
Step 2: Next you will determine how many applications your unit can run simultaneously at your chosen location inlet water temperature. Tankless electric water heaters are sized for maximum simultaneous use, not maximum fixtures in your home.
Step 3: Determining specifications and electrical infrastructure is important because without the correct infrastructure your unit may not fit into your breaker panel.

User questions & answers
Question: | How does it effect the water pressure, will it change |
Answer: | I am not sure if you can fit this for propane as propane has a smaller orfice and higher pressure and the Natural gas orfice size could be too large |
Question: | My existing water heater is located next to and shares a flue with the furnace. Can I hook the same way on this |
Answer: | There are two units available. Natural gas, which is low pressure, high volume and propane which operates at a higher pressure. The conversion from one gas to another is probably going to void any warranty and may not even be possible to do by laymen. I certainly wouldn't attempt it. Just purchase the right unit in the first place. |
Question: | Is this unit sufficient for Tennessee climate? I've read somewhere that it was for warmer climate areas (Florida/Texas |
Answer: | Watts is a measure of electric to me My unit uses LP. It heats the water on demand. So LP gas is only used when you draw hot water. No electric is used to heat the water |
Question: | How does very cold intake water affect performance |
Answer: | I would suggest contacting the manufacture. I have a deep well submersible pump and a supply tank under 15# pressure at my hunting camp. This works well there. But I have a summer lake cottage with gravity feed water supply ( at least 100ft drop). Don't know the lbs pressure at the sink there, but I can spray a 20 ft stream from my garden hose. Good Luck. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the temperature output be adjusted to 105F |
Answer: | Sinks have aerators to slow down the water where a tub doesn't. It sounds like one possibility is that your exceeding the GPM for this heater. Next possibility, double check an measure your actually getting at least 240v at the heater, I had an issue where my unit was only getting 235v an it was causing a similar issue where only one of the two heating elements was activating. I had it set to 125F but it was coming out 100F. It was warm and without a meter I would of thought it was working correctly until I tried filling a tub. It couldn't even get the water warm. I pulled my wires out an restripped an cut an screwed them in an it fixed my problem, now its measuring around 245v. Make sure there is no copper showing after screwing down your input wires. Now filling the tub I noticed after about 10-15 seconds the water gets too hot to touch. I set it to 135F. |
Question: | Can I use the Rinnai V65EP in Denver, Co? Temperatures during the winter can get below zero |

Question: | Is warranty void automatically when buying this way? The warranty appears to be void if not purchased by an "authorized dealer |
Answer: | MyPlumbingStuff is an "Authorized RINNAI Online Reseller". Warranty is valid when purchased through us. |
Question: | Will this item work with propane |
Answer: | you would have to change the jets -read the specs-you should be able to order it for either natural gas or propane |
Question: | I just purchased a new house that has two of these units and it takes about a minute for water to heat, can that be sped up |
Answer: | Hi Jay, Understand that you have cold water in your pipes that has to be pushed through to your open faucet and discharged before the hot water can get to you. Your Rinnai instantly starts heating your water when you open the faucet but there is all that cold water in the way. The closer your faucet is to the unit the sooner you get the hot water. If you are concerned about water waste, use the cold water to start scrubbing your sink or tub and then rinse with the hot water when it purges the cold sitting there. Your Rinnai saves you a ton of money by being on demand so be patient. Brush you teeth in the cold so no waste also. It is a great unit! John and Joanne |

Product description
This electric tankless water heater is a true Point of Use Model because it is specifically designed for under the sink, single applications with a maximum flow rate of 0.5-Gallon per minute (gpm) and includes a 0.5 gpm sink aerator. User questions & answers
Question: | Can the flow rate be adjusted up from 0.5gpm to say 1gpm or 1.5gpm (understood that the output water will be corresponding less hotter)? thanks in adv |
Answer: | This is a 199,000 btu model, a 3/4" gas line is required to have sufficient gas supply. |
Question: | degree water going in what degree will be at the tap |
Answer: | rinnai recommends the GTK03 Grundfos kit for this unit |
Question: | are any of these tankless water heaters plug in |
Answer: | I think, you need buy a WiFi module, call Rennai and ask. Circ-logic did not work for me, I had to install re circulation pipe. Because of the high minimum flow requirements, this unit did not work with any regular re circulation pump, so wasted money buying a Watts pump. And paid double for the labor. Rennai told me that I should have bought their thankless heater with re-circulation built in. |
Question: | Would you recommend this model for a shower in a guest bathroom |
Answer: | IT CAME WITH ADAPTERS ON THE TOP. NO PIPING. |

3 Smart Steps for Endless Hot Water
Step 1: Determining your average inlet water temperature is important, this allows you to determine how well your unit will perform in your desired location. A lower inlet water temperature will require a higher kilowatt product.
Step 2: This product is fixed flow, which means that the output temperature rise of this product is determined by flow rate of the application. This chart gives you the expected temperature rise for various sink flow rates from 0.5 to 1.5 gallons per minute.
Step 3: Determining specifications and electrical infrastructure is important because without the correct infrastructure your unit may not fit into your breaker panel.

Question: | can i vent this thru a masonry chimney |
Answer: | It needs to be ported outside. |
Question: | What is the highest temperature achievable from this water heater? Will it produce temperatures in excess of 150 degrees F |
Answer: | Assuming you have everything hooked up correctly, at 3.5 GPM, the MAX TEMP will be NO MORE THAN 55 degrees ABOVE THE TEMPERATURE OF THE INCOMING WATER. For example, if the incoming water temp is 50 degrees in the winter, then the max winter temp will be 105. In the summer, when the incoming water is 65 degrees, the max summer temp will be 120 degrees. This is the way ALL demand heaters work. Be SURE to check the TEMPERATURE RISE specification on ANY demand heater to know what it is truly capable of. If the TEMP RISE is specified at 3GPM, and you try to set it higher, it may CUT BACK THE FLOW RATE to achieve the higher temp, but it will NEVER exceed the TEMP RISE spec. |
