User questions & answers

Question: Can this directly replace a 40 gal tank heater with a 30A double pole breaker? What are power requrements
Answer: No it can't. RTEX-24 requires 3 sets of wire and ground, and it needs 3x 40amp breaker. That's a total of 120amps
Question: Can you use the 10/3 for one of the cicuits
Answer: No. It requires three legs of 8-2.
Question: Can the unit operate as a rtex-18 if i only hook up 2 of the elements? because i only need the 18 specs as of now but would like the option to upgrade
Answer: Actually you can do this but you must be careful on which circuits are connected. Rheem says the elements are activated from right to left as power is required. The right most element connection also provides power to the control so this must always be connected. If the very left element is left disconnected, you will only get 2/3 of the rated power on a 3 element unit.
Question: Why are 2 answers for the breaker requirements. Is it 3 double 40 or 3 double 60 amp
Answer: If the unit draws 40 amp. you need a 2 pole 40 amp breaker 2 #8 wires good for 40 amp and 1 # 10 wire for a bond. Now if the unit draws 60 amps you need 2 # 6's good for 65 amps. A 2 pole 60 amp breaker and 1 # 8 for a bond( ground wire).

User questions & answers

Question: We have a 500sq' apt. 1 kitchen sink, 1 lav sink and tub/shower. This tankless heats water to both sinks but nothing to the tub/sh. Help
Answer: Sinks have aerators to slow down the water where a tub doesn't. It sounds like one possibility is that your exceeding the GPM for this heater. Next possibility, double check an measure your actually getting at least 240v at the heater, I had an issue where my unit was only getting 235v an it was causing a similar issue where only one of the two heating elements was activating. I had it set to 125F but it was coming out 100F. It was warm and without a meter I would of thought it was working correctly until I tried filling a tub. It couldn't even get the water warm. I pulled my wires out an restripped an cut an screwed them in an it fixed my problem, now its measuring around 245v. Make sure there is no copper showing after screwing down your input wires. Now filling the tub I noticed after about 10-15 seconds the water gets too hot to touch. I set it to 135F.
Question: Do these tankless water heaters require an overflow line to the outside of the home or a pan like is required on normal water heaters
Answer: No tank, so, no overflow line required. It mounts on the wall. A pan is needed if required by building code in your city.
Question: what are the wiring and power requirements
Answer: good morning,60 amp breaker and , number 6 cable !thank you have a great day!

Ecosmart ECO 18 Electric Tankless Water Heater, 18 KW at 240 Volts with Patented Self Modulating Technology,White

EcoSmart

Based on 3 reviews Check latest price

Product description

This Smart Technology electric tankless water heater is configured as a "whole home" model for climates where incoming water temperature is 62°F and above. The ECO 18 is capable of heating over 2.5 gallons per minute, which is the equivalent of one water saver shower head (with a 1.5 gpm flow) and one sink with a low inlet water temperature of 62°F, and an output setting of 105° F. Two showers emitting no more than 1.5 gpm each can be run simultaneously when incoming water temperature is above 70° F. Digital temperature control allows you to set your temperature in increments of 1°. All tankless water heaters are sized based on flow rate and temperature rise, and there is a direct relationship between the two. So if used in a cold area requiring a high temperature rise, it will be more limited in the amount of fixtures (gallons per minute) it can heat at one time compared to a warmer climate. However, when sized properly it will provide endless hot water and only consume the energy needed, giving the user complete control. Prior to purchase and installation please verify this model is the right size for the expected demand and electrical requirements. The ECO 18 requires a minimum 150 amp electrical panel for installation with 40 amp double pole breakers connected to sets of #8 awg wire. Plumbing connections are 3/4" NPT. For additional assistance please feel free to contact our support center at 877-474-6473.

User questions & answers

Question: How do know which size to buy? We will supply two bathrooms, dish washer, clothes washer. What size should I choose
Answer: I noted someone below stating they got the largest one and they can only run one water source at a time. My guess is they installed it wrong by not getting the electric hooked up right, or maybe the unit was just defective, or they live in Alaska. I went under size with an Eco 27 a few years ago because that’s all my electric panel could handle. We have zero issues in the summer. During winter months we can only run one shower at a time and have to slowly fill a tub (maybe 3/4 fill speed). To save as much money as I am on electric bill and have unlimited shower lengths (only 1 person at a time mid-Dec to mid-March) is totally worth it. On here today because I’m thinking of upping my panel size so was thinking of going with a larger one now. Regardless, CCRC’s experience with the largest unit not working is nothing like the experience I’ve had, and again I intentionally undersized mine for the house. The website has a clear chart to explain size you need based on number of water fixtures in your home and ground water temperature.
Question: Can this unit supply a 3,700 sq foot home with 3 1/2 baths
Answer: In the lower states it can, but in the northern states, multiple simultaneous users, it will be overloaded. If you can afford a 3,700 square foot home, then you can place a unit in each appropriate demand zone and be very glad you did. I love mine, live in KY, get great supply when the water is above 60 degrees, and then it slows the flow as the temperature drops. I have dishwasher, washing machine, garden tube, 2 showers, 3 sinks and 4 people. It is better than great in the summer, okay spring and fall, and we are conservative in the winter.
Question: What is the power consumption of this tank-less heater
Answer: The instantaneous power consumption while the hot water is running is quite high (up to 18kW or 27kW depending on which model you’re looking at on this page). However, when no hot water is being used, the power consumption is 0 (or a minuscule amount to run an LED light or something). The total power consumption over the course of several days or longer should be much lower than a tank heater but the short term power usage while the heater is making hot water will be much higher than a tank heater. It’s just that the unit sits idle most of the time while a tank heater will use power fairly frequently even when no hot water is needed as the water in the tank cools off over time and needs to be re-heater fairly constantly
Question: remote
Answer: This unit does not have the ability to have a remote temperature control.

3 Smart Steps for Endless Hot Water

Step 1: Determining your average inlet water temperature is important, this allows you to determine how well your unit will perform in your desired location. A lower inlet water temperature will require a higher kilowatt product.

Step 2: Next you will determine how many applications your unit can run simultaneously at your chosen location inlet water temperature. Tankless electric water heaters are sized for maximum simultaneous use, not maximum fixtures in your home.

Step 3: Determining specifications and electrical infrastructure is important because without the correct infrastructure your unit may not fit into your breaker panel.

User questions & answers

Question: So where is the electrical cord on this water heater? I dont see any electrical connection on the picture showing
Answer: No. This is a simple self- regulating unit. If you want more flow, and more hot water, go to the next size up that this company makes. I put this unit in my parents kitchen, where it doesn't get as hot and cannot cause burns. I have the larger unit in my kitchen. It can get very hot before it balances out.
Question: What is amperage and how long does it normally take before it ships
Answer: Hello James. Great question. This unit heats water by 24°F at a flow rate of 1.0 GPM (and a proportionately lower temperature rise with a higher flow rate, and higher temp. rise with lower flow rate). All tankless water heaters operate on the same principle. Therefore, you should add 24°F to your incoming water temperature of 60°F. The answer is 84°F. This heater requires one 00 amp double pole breaker. For a complete explanation of how to choose a tankless water heater, check out our blog post at blog.gadgetsgo.com/how-to-buy-an-electric-tankless-water-heater GadgetsGo is one of the first Authorized Ecosmart Dealers, since 2009. Kind Regards, John M. GadgetsGo
Question: What is included with this purchase
Answer: Hello. According to the NEC and building code, electric tankless water heaters 15 amps or above do not include a cord with plug. They must be hard wired to a junction box or breaker box. Feel free to ask us any other questions. GadgetsGo is one of the first Authorized Ecosmart Dealers, since 2009. Kind Regards, John M. GadgetsGo
Question: Is there a 220V unit of this model available
Answer: Probably not but can work if you live in a southern environment and can supply 10 gauge wiring (or whatever they specify) to it. I use mine on an outdoor shower to my pool area and works well, but you have to control the temperature by lowering the water flow thru to it. The first time I tried it, I had to actually remove the low flow stuff in the shower head because it was too hot but after I removed it its comes out a nice 100+ temperature straight out of the hot end. Note, if it is really cool in florida, this does not work real well because this particular model just doesn't have the wattage to heat up the water really well.I bought this primarily to heat my water at my kitchen sink and dishwasher and it does a fantastic job doing so as opposed to waiting a minute plus for water from the other side of my house to come. As a bonus, I also added an adaptor and run it out to a shower faucet for the pool and it works well for that also, but if you are in a cooler place than florida, I would encourage you to get something stronger because you will need to heat a lot more than 1/2 a gallon a minute or a gallon a minute flow rate that this really heats up.

Question: Will this work for a 50 amp RV Motorhome that is connected to shore power and or using generator for power
Answer: It calls for a 38amp breaker and needs a heaver gage wire than what might be in your RV Runing a 50 amp service with the w heater in service as soon as the AC or your stove cut on you will trip your service breaker Good thought I also have a fith wheel and a sports cruiser boat with 50 amp service and generators If you ran just the water heater by it self when you needed hot water you could make it work
Question: I have 100 amp in my building. will that work

Answer: It will work. Make sure you clean your old one out. Read up on YouTube how to. You’ll get better life out of your water heater and heating elements.
Question: Will this fit a Rheem 40gal 70-40s its about 25yo
Answer: hot water tanks haven't changed for thermostats etc in more than 40 years so would think your ok
Question: Richmond is manufactured by Rheem. Will this fit a Richmond 6e
Answer: All these parts were identical to the parts I removed from my twelve year old GE water heater (further research indicated it was actually a Rheem). I swapped out the old parts and replaced them with these parts. The water heater now works as if new. I might note that these heating elements also look identical to similar generic items at Home Depot. I doubt they would stock it unless it fit just about everything.
