| Answer: | I just received my Quilo 14000btu unit and set it up. It's not quiet. When the fan is running, well, it sounds like a fan. That's okay. But when the compressor kicks in, it has a low frequency annoyingly grumbling noise like the old time refrigerators did when the compressors got worn. Would I prefer the noise over being stuffy-hot inside? Yes. Would I prefer the noise over being a little uncomfortably warm? No. For the record, I also just purchased an Emerson Quiet Kool 8000 BTU unit. It's a lower power compressor, and it's half as noisy. I wish I had bought the Emerson 14000BTU unit for the front room instead of the Quilo, but to tell the truth, I don't know how the noise of those two 14000BTU units compare. And they're too expensive to just buy them to test out. It's odd that the Db ratings are louder for the Emerson, but the actual experience is that it's quieter. We'll see how well they cool this summer. |

| Answer: | Yes-it is not sharp. It cannot slice a finger. I love this device. I use a short handled dead blow mallet(steel head). That hammer creates a force that the wedge thus splits the wood. My only remaining trick is- I have not yet found a spot to fasten this to- there are two holes. I am seeking something like a stump that is 2 feet off the ground. I haven't come across yet. So most often use a flat stepping stone- instead of earth. This device makes very nice kindling. Use for both indoor fireplace and solo stove. It is an excellent product. |

I have split my share of rocks, and it strangely therapeutic to see a large rock broken into pieces small enough to be picked up. Once you find a seam, keep tapping away on it and eventually, good things will happen. This worked well for me: “Stanley FATMAX 1-in Cold Chisel.” |

| Answer: | "Soft" steel which deforms (is dented) when hammered. Use a magnet and verify iron/steel nature for yourself. After repeated hammering on the top face, the cumulative impacts cause curls of work-hardened steel to form. These curls are much more brittle and and the curls are the dangerous parts that may send chips flying when the maul "misses" the face and hits them at the edges. This is why always wear eye protection, especially with well-used curled edges. Why soft steel? If repeatedly hammer "hard steel", then more likely to damage (break) steel of maul or ax or sledge. Thus, the soft steel is "sacrificial" or protective and safer. |

| Answer: | This is not the model i bought. Not sure what you are trying to do but these are made for Kindling... It won't fit more that a 6" or 8" inch log which is really a good size limb. I will use mine for kindling but I expected it to be much bigger able to accommodate larger pieces of wood. |
