Question:	how easy is it to connect this to a shop-vac? What is the size/shape of the port on the sander than a shop vac hose would connect to
Answer:	Very easy with Ridgid Shop Vacs. Size and shape is a 7/8" outer diameter circle. To connect to Ridgid brand shop vacs, simply use a Carlon 3/4 in. PVC conduit box adapter from Home Depot's electrical department - the inner diameter is a direct fit for the sander's dust port and the outer diameter is a direct fit for the nozzle end of the 1-1/4 inch hoses. The conduit adapter is 50 cents and there is also a Ridgid 3-piece adapter kit for $8.50 to step down to the conduit adapter from the 2-1/2 inch hoses. No glue, no tape, no hose clamps - just press the adapter in and get to sanding.
Question:	How well does it collect dust when attached to vacuum system? I'm comparing this with Festool sander
Answer:	With a small shop vac, mine collects about 90 % of the dust...but needs frequent cleaning of the vac filters....depends on the material being sanded, and the sanding grit being used. With the vac tube open, the sander jets a stream of dust out of the chute. This is an excellent unit....but I have zero experience with Festool.....
Question:	The first picture shows a plastic type "dust bag," while the other pictures show a cloth type bag. Which bag is included? Does it fall off easily
Answer:	I bought mine about 6 months ago. The dust bag is cloth and the attachment does not fall off but could be better designed. I am on by 5th or 6th sander is about 15 years and all handled dust about the same. All of my previous sanders broke or stopped working after about a year and the 2 different Rigid models only lasted about 6 months. This is why I bought this more expensive model. So far it is working great.
Question:	How is the vibration on this sander, can you barely feel it
Answer:	Mine is a very low mileage model. But I can say it is a pleasure to use after having some low cost sanders in the past. I think, even with extended usage, the vibration level is low enough to not cause any stress from using it.

Answer:	Sanding curves is no problem but it won't get into enclosed corners

Question:	Does it work with the older makita bl1815 18v 1.5ah lithium batteries
Answer:	This sander will not natively work with BL1815 batteries. I just found out the hard way today. The good news is, if you modify your BL1815 with a nail file and remove a small piece of plastic, it will fit, and it will work fine. This sander is meant to be used with batteries with a star on them, which offer some protections. If you decide to use the BL1815 do so at your own risk. I'm using it and I haven't had any problems, but your mileage will vary. If you search "modifying a BL1815 to work with newer tools" you will find videos and pictures that show you which small part of the battery you need to remove.

Answer:	watts =amps x volts. So If it's 3 amps, multiply that by, say, 115 (for volts which will vary 110 to 120), and so you get 445 watts.
Question:	Can i use this sander as a polisher
Answer:	absolutely. The best car polishers are actually 9 or 10" random orbital sanders that run at low speed. I used to polish cars professionally for an old couple that blasted you if it wasnt perfect. The technique is as follows: - always apply to the PAD, not the car - set the buffer JUST above the surface, turn on, and JUST before it starts to really HUM, lightly touch down and let the weight of the sander dictate the running speed of the pad. The pad should initially be on the lowest setting. This requires a bit of a touch, but the goal is to prevent ALL your polish and wax from flying off the pad and making a mess. ALSO, you DONT want to start the polisher on the surface: 1) its bad for the motor to be under an added load like that . 2) on startup, motors produce a substantial amount of torque and before your polish is evenly spread, could REALLY, suddenly dig in and possibly scratch or gouge the really ridiculously soft clear coat that is used nowadays. - use best products available: 3M yields amazing results, Chemical Guys supposedly reproduces those results, but I havent used them yet and am unfamiliar with the entire line.

Answer:	No, this uses round discs that are pre punched with holes, you do not need the punch plate. I have the same quarter sheet Makita sander, this is a big step up in performance.

Answer:	you get one 120 grit pice of sand paper and the dust collector with one disposable bag
Question:	can you purchase a more permenant dust bag other than the paper one shown
Answer:	I made one. Used the original adapter plate; removed the paper bag and glued on the one I made from two layers of fabric. It works for 3-4 years already.
Question:	do you have to take off the hook and loop pad to use regular sandpaper sheets
Answer:	No. You can leave the hook and loop pad on and use the regular sandpaper. I would recommend purchasing a punch plate to be able to use your shopvac with the regular sandpaper.

Answer:	...its got 4700 rpms......you can use the grinder to grind anything you want...but the question is.....can you find a sanding disc that will cut granite.....i have never sanded granite so, i cant recommend a disc for it....but.....contact a disc supplier and see if they carry a disc suitable for that surface

However, Makita, in their infinite wisdom, made the 1.5in/38mm nozzle a little smaller (37mm) than industry standard so as to not fit any other manufacturers' industry-standard 1.5in attachments. Makita also doesn't include a round brush nozzle, which is always super handy especially with portable shopvacs (nor do those geniuses even offer a "1.5in/38mm" brush nozzle attachment). It would've been a 5-star product otherwise.
