10 best dewalt 18 volt finish nailer
The DeWalt 18 Volt Finish Nailer is a power tool used in construction and woodworking for fastening finish nails, particularly brad nails, into various materials such as wood, MDF, and trim. Here's what you should know about this tool and its related categories:
Brad Nailer: The DeWalt 18 Volt Finish Nailer is a type of brad nailer. Brad nailers are designed for precision and are used for finishing work, such as installing trim, crown molding, baseboards, and other fine carpentry tasks. They use thin, small-gauge nails called brads, which leave minimal marks on the work surface.
Power Source: This DeWalt nailer operates on an 18-volt battery, which provides cordless convenience and portability. Cordless nailers are advantageous because they allow you to work in areas without access to electrical outlets and provide greater mobility on job sites.
Nail Types: It is compatible with 18-gauge brad nails of varying lengths. Brad nails are ideal for applications where you need a discreet, secure fastening with minimal splitting or damage to the material.
Depth Adjustment: The nailer typically comes with depth adjustment settings, allowing you to control the depth at which the nails are driven into the material. This feature is crucial for achieving a professional finish and avoiding over-penetration.
Sequential and Bump Modes: Some models of DeWalt 18 Volt Finish Nailers offer both sequential and bump firing modes. Sequential mode requires you to press the nose of the nailer against the workpiece and then pull the trigger for each nail. Bump firing allows for faster operation, as you can hold down the trigger and simply bump the nailer to fire nails in rapid succession.
Jam Clearing: Like most nailers, this DeWalt model includes a mechanism for clearing nail jams quickly and easily, reducing downtime during your projects.
LED Work Light: Some versions of the DeWalt 18 Volt Finish Nailer are equipped with an integrated LED work light, which can illuminate the work area, especially in low-light conditions.
Safety Features: Nailers, including brad nailers, typically have safety mechanisms to prevent accidental firing, such as a safety tip that must be pressed against the work surface before the trigger can be pulled.
Portability: Cordless nailers like the DeWalt 18 Volt Finish Nailer are popular for their portability, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor projects.
DeWalt is a well-known brand in the power tool industry, known for producing high-quality and reliable tools. The DeWalt 18 Volt Finish Nailer is a versatile and convenient tool for finish carpenters, woodworkers, and DIY enthusiasts who require precision and efficiency in their nail-fastening tasks.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it brushless |
Answer: | I believe that it is brushless. I have 2 of the nail guns and they are great. Works fast and sets the nails ever time. Battery lasts a long time as well. |
Question: | Just got the nail gun. somehow it jammed as soon as placed brads in it. it seems to flip the brad. how is that possible? not happy i'm wasting brads |
Answer: | Ummm, yes, this is a finish nailer, big difference from a brad nailer. Make sure you are using 16 gauge 20 degree nails, not 15 gauge, and definitely not 18 gauge brads. This is a great nailer, but I'm not tossing out my Bostitch air nailers to replace it! This is a great supplement to the air nailers for small jobs that only last a day or so. |
Question: | Have they sorted out the Low nail depth issue yet? After some use my contractors say it wont Drive 2-1/2 nails |
Answer: | This is my second Dewalt finish nailer and I have never had any issues with it not driving 2 1/2" nails. That being said, if you are driving several 2 1/2 nails then you need to make sure you are working with a fully charged battery. I have noticed that if the battery gets to a 1/3 charge it will not drive 2 1/2" nails as deep. It also depends on the type of wood (hard or soft). |
Question: | Can this be used for blind nailing tounge and groove paneling |
Answer: | Yes but don't waste your money if you plan on using this gun a lot. I've had mine in the shop 3 times in the year I've owned it. Buy the 18 volt version is more powerful and breaks way less. I've used mine for the last 6 years at least. This new gun will not even drive 2 1/2" nails consistently through soft wood let alone any hard wood. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can someone recommend an air compressor that would power this nailer? I don't know a lot about tools and don't want to buy larger than i need |
Answer: | : A Husky 4 gallon portable will run three of these nailers. I believe it cost me $250.00. It's pretty quiet. Both of these cost less than a battery one |
Question: | What is the difference between 18 gauge brad nailer and 16 gauge finishing nailer? I need to install trim, build bookcase and install decking floor |
Answer: | Brad nails are formed from a fine 18 gauge wire, while finish nails are made from heavier 16 or 15 gauge wire. Finish nails are the correct choice for fastening larger crown and baseboard trim, brad nails are used to install smaller trim to help prevent splitting and to promote a cleaner looking job with less touch-up work after the nailing is done. |
Question: | Would I need to purchase anything else (battery) in order to use? I know absolutely NOTHING about power tools |
Answer: | Hello, Thank you for writing ACME Tools. The DWFP12231 Brad Nailer is a Pneumatic tool so you will have to use an Air Compressor and a hose with the proper fittings. Other than that, this unit is very straight forward and easy to use. |
Question: | what is the voltage |
Answer: | The voltage is 765 kV and it is also powered by two Siemens & Halske alternators rated 30 hp (22 kW), 2 kV at 120 Hz and uses 200 series-connected Gaulard 2-kV/20-V step-down transformers provided with a closed magnetic circuit, one for each trigger. Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what is HP |
Answer: | These products are not rated in HP. |
Question: | Can i use 200 feet of air house will the compressor take it |
Answer: | It's not advisable to use such a long air hose, even if it would work. It would be useful to inquire about a long electrical extension that would go at least half way. A qualified electrician could shed some light on this (pun intended). I wouldn't do either; there is some risk in running electrical wire or an air hose under pressure such a long distance. |
Question: | Is this good for crown molding and flooring installs with it support for what I am looking to do |
Answer: | Ideally you will want a finish nailer for crown molding work. Please contact DEWALT at 1-800-433-9258 for further assistance. |
Question: | What is the length of the included hose |
Answer: | I haven't measured it but I'm thinking it's probably a 25' |
