User questions & answers
Question: | can it drill 1/4 holes into plastic |
Answer: | ----Its not the drill, It's the BIT ----Hanson makes particular bits for drilling plastic, with any drill regardless of voltage, and theyre available most any good hardware store or Tap Plastics. They have a particularly pointed tip, so don't ever attempt to ever use them on wood or metal, as doing so would render it crapp for plastic use from then on. I have 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 in my arsenal, and they pretty much cover any plastic, ABS, PVC, and especially Plexi-Glas projects I encounter. Yeah, they're a buck or two higher than regular bits, but they also wont crack your pretty plexi-glas project all to hell like a standard twist drill bit will. |
Question: | Does this drill have a built in LED light |
Answer: | Yes, it has a light. But it's worse than useless. It lights the area nearby, but casts a shadow on the spot you are drilling. The glare makes it actually harder to see what you're doing. |
Question: | Would you recommend this drill over the DEWALT DC970K-2 18-Volt Drill/Driver Kit (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002RLR0EY)? If so, why |
Answer: | I had an oportunity to use the 18V when I installed the railings on my father in laws staircase. I worked absolutely great but I had to keep switching batteries and kept one on the charger. He got it last Christmas. I told myself then the Dewalt was far superior to the two brands of portable drills I was using that I was going to get a Dewalt for myself. Honestly, when I ordered the 20V I assumed it was the same as my father in law had but his was the 18V. I would be happy with either but the 20V I have is smaller in size and lighter than the 18V that he has. Plus the 20V lithium batteries last a long long time before you have to recharge but then again replacement batteries are expensive. I just used the 20V to build my garage and so far I've only swithed batteries 5 times and that includes all the siding, drywall, wire routing. BTW I use the new star bit screws for everything they are far superior to phillips and I have given all my boxes of phillips screws away; along with my two "other brand" cordless drills. |
Question: | Does this unit come with one or two batteries |
Answer: | As of March 22, 2020 the Description clearly says it comes with two batteries... "...The tools weighs 3.6 pounds and contains 2 20 volt Max compact Lithium ion battery packs " |

User questions & answers
Question: | Hello from pensacola florida my question is can this thing take off a tire if not can you point me to on that dose thanks |
Answer: | In the shop I use my 3/8 impact wrench from dewalt with a 20v 5ah battery and i can go almost 2 days before having to charge my battery and i use it for almost everything. It will take off tires, pull headbolts, engine mounts, t-case bolts, and so on. I would recommend if you're working on your vehicle getting the impact wrench with impact sockets. I put about $500 into what i use and it hasn't let me down yet in almost 4 years. With the wrench you won't need the adapter from screw bit to socket so that will save you a headache if you loose it. |
Question: | How many inch pounds will this impact driver provide |
Answer: | This impact has almost 1500 in-lbs of torque. Very good impact and you can beat the hell out of them they definitely last. |
Question: | Does it come with 2 batteries |
Answer: | Yes it comes with two batteries |
Question: | Does the drill have a hammer setting |
Answer: | The drill combo with the hammer setting is DCK299. However, I will say I thought I needed a hammer drill, it turns out it’s useless. An impact drill gives pulses of force laterally (in the direction of rotation) to turn big bolts, a hammerdrill delivers the same force forward. It turns out that this force is so minimal it’s basically useless. If you actually need a hammer drill what you really need is a rotary hammer. Much greater forward bang. A hammer drill is a bit like a vibrating razor. Only useful in masonry and then it goes just as fast without. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long does the battery take to charge |
Answer: | It took me about 1-1/2 hours for each battery. The light blinks when it's done. They are great and you will like them with the 20v drill. |
Question: | Do all 20v Dewalt batteries fit this tool |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | On amazon, dcd791d2, the product description says "kit" (tool, batteries, charger, case), in the product details it says "bare tool". Which is it |
Answer: | The "kit" as advertised on Amazon is the drill, charger, two batteries, and case. At $189.00 it is a great deal. The drill, etc. is terrific. |
Question: | What is the torque rating of this drill |
Answer: | Another way to figure out a torque rating of a Dewalt drill is to go to Dewalt's EU site, pick United Kingdom and look at the specs. They list both torque specs in this case. MAX is 70 nm soft is 27 nm converting to 619.55 in-lb and 238.97 in-lb. Hard torque is instant torque delivered. Usually at the start of an application; whereas, soft torque is applied throughout the application like when driving a screw. |
Question: | does it come with a light |
Answer: | A separate 20v utility light is available for around $15 which utilizes the same 20v L-I battery. I bought one last year and am very happy w/ it. It uses multiple led bulbs and spreads a more diffused light than the average flashlight, but I use it extensively out of doors and for low light repair projects. |
Question: | Can i leave it charging over night without harming battery |
Answer: | Yes you can but you should not for long periods of time. Its a simple thing every battery has a limited amount of charges that can be done. While Lithium Ion does discharge slowly they do discharge and will then waste a charge. Also the charger likely has an overcharge protector but that uses power too if not then it is always charging hence wasting more power.Your charger should take an hour with those tiny batteries add an hour charge time each mah on battery pack. |
Question: | Does it come with charger and battery |
Answer: | Yes, charger and battery are included. Battery is long duration, lasting multiple tasks. |
Question: | Is this drill sized and weighted well for use by a woman |
Answer: | I use it and I am a woman with small hands. It is not as heavy as my husband's regular drill but it is more sturdy than my previous B&D driver/drill. I prefer this one even though it is a bit wider in the grip and a tad heavier. It's my favorite gadget. |

Answer: | at the base of the handle in the front. |
Question: | Is the “hammerdrill” an option or is it always in hammer mode |
Answer: | The hammer feature is selected with a dial. |
Question: | Why is the p2 kit $90 more than the m2? the retail price difference between 4.0 ah and 5.0 ah battery 2 packs is only |
Answer: | P2 kit is identical to the M2 kit except: a) Batteries in P2 are 5AH vs 4AH in M2 b) Hard plastic case in P2 vs bag in M2. Hard plastic case hold both tools and charger. Note: 5AH batteries are exactly the same size as the 4AH batteries. 5AH batteries are 0.5oz LIGHTER than the 4AH. The 5AH are definitely the batteries to get. |
Question: | Does anyone else have an issue with the drill in the dck299p2? one guy said bought three and they were all defective |
Answer: | My drill Chuck has been binding up since new. But still usable for now.. The impacts Chuck broke internally and wouldn't lock the bits in and the impact lost all speeds except for fast... I bought a new impact and it sparked and smelled like burning plastic for the first 30 minutes. Works now without an issue.will see.. I'd go with another brand,I'm a contractor and have been using DeWalt for 20+ years.DeWalt seems to have gone down hill. Not buying again next time. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What are the Dimensions |
Answer: | It is about 6-1/2" from the tip where the it goes to the back of the handle. The handle part you grip is about 3-1/2" Side barrel is about 2" x 1-1/2". This is an awesome little screw driver for many home uses. Battery life is good for several small jobs of one bigger job. I would highly recommend for as a Home owner tool. |
Question: | Are they lithium batteries |
Answer: | yes, they are lithium ion batteries |
Question: | is it good for tighten or loosening terminal blocks |
Answer: | What I found that sometimes when I barely turned the drill to start the drill was not enough and when I turned it a little further for more torque... The drill would some times spin out the screw head slot. This was more my fault because I should have looked at the choke setting on the chuck to adjust it to a lower setting. I found to loosen a screw was that first...make sure that the screw tip is the correct size for screw head slot. Next with the bit in the drill chuck, put the bit in the screw slot. Then WITHOUT turning on the drill, turn the screw manually to break the tightened connection. Then with the drill chuck choke adjustment mid way or low setting would easily loosen the screw slowly when I wanted to loosen slowly. Plus this saved some time and battery on multiple connections. To tighten I had to remember to set the choke setting low and it would tighten and then the choke action would (rattle). Then I could increase the choke setting 1-2 steps to ensure the screw terminal was tight. I hope I this helps. |
Question: | Different reviews seem to like the driver, but I get the impression that power is not its strong suit. does it really have enough torque to drive screws for various home projects? Thanks |
Answer: | Definitely does the job on softer woods (e.g., basic 2x4s). I have been using it on all my shelving projects - mostly using #9 2-1/2" desk screws . The ability to change directions (in/out) makes it great for pre-drilling with a quick release drill bit without having to touch anything but the trigger. I am also impressed by the amount of torque this can generate, and the amazing battery life - really a great tool. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this have a battery life meter on it |
Answer: | It does not have a battery life meter. It does come with two batteries so it's not to big of an issue. |
Question: | How long does battery last |
Answer: | Batteries that come with unit are small but very light, excellent for my usage. DeWalt sells these 20v packs in 3 different capacities these are the smallest ones. How long they last is a HUGE variable based on what the task is so that will be impossible to determine for someone else. In my experience these small ones last about the same as the 18v Ni-Cad Dewalt system (18 yrs old) I replaced with this set. |
Question: | Why do two Lithium ion batteries go for $170. and the kit with two batteries a charger the carry case and the drill go for |
Answer: | it depends what batteries you're looking for. The batteries are where dewalt is making the real money (other than china vs us made power tools) This kit comes with 1.3AH batteries, I believe these are the smallest batteries offered. Think of them like gallons of gas. 1.3 isn't going to go as far as the 6.0AH. When dewalt adds in other stupid options like Bluetooth, it jacks up the cost. Unless you're a contractor running drills all day, these two batteries should keep your project moving along. |
Question: | So is brushless better than the regular DW drill |
Answer: | Yes. First off, it is more efficient than brush-ed. When you run it with a light load, it draws less power. Dewalt says you get up to 30% more runtime from the same charge. The better efficiency is a fact, and the 30% is possibly conservative. There is a youtube video of a guy drilling 1/2" holes into a board with a brushless and a traditional dewalt drill, and the brushless wins 2 to 1. it drills some 190 holes vs the brushed just 92. The second advantage: there are no brushes to wear out and replace. TBT I have many brush-ed tools and as a DIY-er I never had to replace the brushes on any of them, but this may be an advantage to a pro or heavy user. A third advantage, the tool can be built more compact, or more powerful (given the same size)The only advantage of the "brush equipped" design:that it is simpler. The brushless changes the direction of the Dc current using electronics instead of a mechanical commutator, so that is an extra source of possible failure |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the product reference (number) of the charger ? I need to check the specs since the description: fast charger is not helping enough |
Answer: | The charger is model number DCB107 |
Question: | Bit size |
Answer: | This driver uses the 1/4" hex shank bits, but you could buy a 1/4" hex shank drill chuck adapter like the Neiko 20754A adapter that Amazon sells, and use regular drill bits. |
Question: | Can you break Lugnuts off of tires with this impact driver |
Answer: | Actually, I used it on a whim to change out the tire on my wife's CR-V. She discovered she had picked up a screw while at soccer practice. I grabbed this impact, the adapter, the socket, and my 4 way and headed to the park. I was planning on breaking them loose with the 4 way and zipping them off and on with the impact. I tried the impact first on a whim. It broke loose 4 of the 5 nuts, and did a good job of seating them all when I put the spare on. I finished torquing them with the 4 way, but I barely even budged them. They would have likely been fine with just the impact. Now, this tool wouldn't stand a chance against the lug nuts on my 1 ton diesel, but neither would any of 3/8" or regular duty 1/2" impacts. |
Question: | Can you take simi, and regular tires off with this impact |
Answer: | It certainly IS NOT going to take semi lug nuts off. It won't take the lugs nuts of pickups or SUVs either. And while it MIGHT manage to remove an under torqued lug nut from a tiny car, it WILL NOT pull properly torqued lug nuts off of anything. This is a ONE QUARTER INCH impact driver for screws, and small nuts and bolts. To pull wheels, get at least a 1/2" impact with 300 plus FOOT POUNDS of torque (and that won't do semi's) |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the impact have torque adjusments |
Answer: | No torque adjustments with this model impact.. |
Question: | Whats the Chuck size on the drill |
Answer: | 1/2" |
Question: | Could you please tell me what amp battery comes with this combo |
Answer: | DCK277C2 includes (2) 1.3 amp hour batteries. |
Question: | What's the difference between the model dcf787 20v max* and model dcf887 20v max* xr impact driver |
Answer: | Based on my research the 787 is a little bigger and heavier (5.5" @ 2.8#) than the 887 (5.3" @ 2#). Both are brushless and use the 20v batteries. DCF787: one (1) LED, 1500 in/lb torque, and has a variable speed trigger 2800 RPM and 3200 IPM. DCF887: three (3) LED, 1825 in/lb torque, 3 speed switch 1000/2800/3250 RPM. The 887 is one of DeWalt's latest and best (Dec 2019) impact drivers however I've seen it compared to other brands and even DeWalt models and with extreme/continuous use start overheating and smoking. So keep in mind how you're going to use it. They now have an "Atom" branded line that may be fractionally smaller but doesn't seem to be as strong and durable as either of these. Key may be in how hard you put it to work and the length of the duty cycle. i.e. are you screwing in a few bolts to mount a tv to a wall or coring into cement to anchor several studs or beams? |

User questions & answers
Question: | whats does type 1 vs type 2 mean on the side of the drill |
Answer: | From the Dewalt website: The type number identifies the multiple versions of a specific model number. As it relates to service parts, a type 1 can be completely different than the type 2 version of a particular model number. The type number can and usually is as important to know as the model number in order to ensure you receive the correct service part(s). Every model number can have multiple type numbers or a little as no type number. |
Question: | does this drill have a hammer setting |
Answer: | Nope |
Question: | Will the 20 volt li-ion dewalt battery interchange with b&d 20volt li-ion batery |
Answer: | DeWalt is built by Black and Decker. The old style batteries were interchangable but the new 20 volt batteries have different tabs to prevent this. They do this to prevent people from buying a $20 black and decker battery and using it on all DeWalt tools. This forces people to buy the more expensive DeWalt battery if they have DeWalt tools. |
Question: | Can this go in there |
Answer: | Obviously this question was posed by someone who doesn't have an a native command of the English language, so in trying to understand the question, I think the question is "Does this tool come with the battery?". That's what is meant by the question "can this go in there?". That's my guess anyway. So, to answer the question, no, it doesn't come with the battery. It's a bare tool only, so no, it won't work without you buying a battery separately. |
