User questions & answers
Question: | Will this drill be able to bore out 1 1/4" holes in 4x4 studs |
Answer: | No. There is no trigger lock on this otherwise excellent drill. |
Question: | Any masonary bit included |
Answer: | Yes and very easy to switch between forward and reverse. We have really put this drill to work and are very happy with its performance. |
Question: | Has anyone found a good case for this drill |
Answer: | Most electric (mains powered/cord) drills make terrible screwguns and this drill is no exception. The issue is torque, which is not effected much by the speed of an electric motor. Electric motors deliver almost 100% of their available torque immediately upon being energized and will produce that same amount of torque throughout their speed range (that's why freight trains, in the US, are driven by electric motors. The engines you hear are diesel electric generators which power the electric traction motors that make the train go. Without that instantly available torque the train would never move). All electric motors deliver torque like this. It has nothing to do with a brand. That instantly available torque is also what makes mains powered drills tear up screw heads, break screws, shred driver bits and cam out of the screw head to put the distinctive track marks on walls and furniture. It's also what makes mains powered drills perfect for drilling holes, which is precisely what they're designed to do. Since you can't do anything practical to change the way electric motors work the solution is to design the screwgun around a motor with less torque and lower power requirements. It doesn't take much torque to drive a screw (next to none if properly sized pilot holes have been drilled) and useful levels of screwdriving torque can easily, and conveniently, be provided by 18v-24v which can be had in a small rechargeable battery. Unless you're doing a LOT of 1/4"+ diameter hole making buy an inexpensive mains powered drill and spend the extra money on a nice cordless driver/drill and batteries. You'll get a lot more mileage for your money that way. |
Question: | Why is speed described as 0-1200 RPM and review says it starts at either 250 or 600 RPM? I need something with true variable speed |
Answer: | Stability is better with the mid grip over the pistol grip in the sense that your hand is closer to the target rather than behind the whole drill. It has better control and is easier to keep on the head of a screw or what have you. :) |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there a lock on the trigger to keep the drill in the "on" position |
Answer: | No, it doesn't, it will continue to spin after you let go of the trigger. At least when you just hold it in the air. In practice when you're drilling something in, I haven't found it to keep going, even with small screws. |
Question: | Is it reversible drill |
Answer: | This drill has no clutch so unless you are pretty familiar with these drills it has the potential to get away from you when the screw bottoms out. |
Question: | I don't understand the comments saying this drill is useless as a screwdriver. Anyone else agree that this drives screws as easily as cordless drills |
Answer: | I'm not sure how much power your device requires but I've found this drill to be very powerful for all my normal drilling operations. |
Question: | What is the advantage of a mid handle grip rather than a pistol grip? I am a woman with average strength, inexperienced at DIY but want to learn |
Answer: | At first I had the same problem, and after spraying a little WD-40 between the chuck and the ribbed area it opened immediately. Like magic! Hope this helps anybody with this problem. |
Question: | Does this drill have an electric brake? When you let go of the trigger, does the bit stop spinning immediately |
Answer: | Castor oil is a humectant, it does remove moisture from one place and transfers it to another. Its not a good thing to use in a dry climate. If you insist on using it, Its best to use at night before bed and wash off in the morning. |
Question: | I have to drill some screws into mdf. There are no pre-drilled holes. Is this what I want |
Answer: | It says that it is made in the USA |
Question: | is this drill powerful enough to attach the 'power cone' attachment for polishing the chrome wheels on my car |
Answer: | I would send a note to the seller to ask. The bars I got came with one white, one brown, and a nice silicone soap dish. The only difference in ingredients in the brown bar is that it contains olive particulates which make it more textured, for scrubbing. Both have olive oil. To me, they feel the same, smell the same, and have had the same effects on my skin. Love their products! |
Question: | I cannot insert the drill bit - My chuck is too tight and I cannot get it to open. I have followed the instructions in the manual. Help |
Answer: | The butter cream comes in a plastic, vacuum sealed container and their oil (same ingredients) comes in a dark amber glass container. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Este taladro es de los que hay que ponerle carbonos de reeplazo |
Answer: | It appears that the lock button only works at full speed. I had not tried it at lower speeds before, so when I did, I found that it only engaged when the trigger was fully depressed (full speed). I'm not sure if that is how it is supposed to work, but that's how mine does. It is not an issue for me. This unt is lightweight with lots of torque....it's trigger is sensitive to speed variations, and the reverse works well too. |
Question: | Does this drill have a rubber cord that remains flexible in cold weather |
Answer: | I guess it would matter on what you planned on using the drill for. I assume your a person who just wants a drill to use occasionally around your house. Either drill would be a good pick for a DIY'er. If your looking for a lightweight drill and something that can manuver in tight area's I would suggest the Porter Cable. But the Skil would do a better job in certain situations because it has lower speed but probably heavier torque which would perform better in driving screws in or drilling large holes in hardwoods.with the larger chuck you would be able to use bigger bits which generally do not fit a 3/8 in. chuck. Go with the Skil , it's going to give you more options but it's not a huge professional 1/2 in drill that might be over kill on your household projects. |
Question: | Is it powerful enough to sharpen a mower blade with an attached sharpening stone |
Answer: | The drill does have forward and reverse, but I do believe drill bits are designed to drill in the forward motion. Their may be specialty bits that will drill in reverse, but I'm not 100% sure on that. |
Question: | Can this drilling machine used for metal and concrete |
Answer: | Yes. This drill has enough power to pass a bill through the House of Representatives and Senate without getting vetoed by the President. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How heavy is it |
Answer: | Yes, the handle is removable. |
Question: | rpm |
Answer: | > The mid-handle is NOT removable. The mid-handle is integrated into the plastic molding that makes up the majority of the tool's housing. The tool is called a "mid-handle" drill because of the primary handle's middle location under the drill's motor. What IS REMOVABLE is the side handle (sometimes called the auxiliary handle). The side handle can be repositioned around the perimeter of the tool or simply taken off. It is surprising and unfortunate that even the manufacturer did not answer this more clearly. |
Question: | Does it work in countries with electricity 220-240 volts |
Answer: | It's not made in Mexico; it's made in China, like damn near everything else! It says so right in the description. Not sure which is worse though. Mexico versus China? Let's have a debate.~LOL |
Question: | What Is the torque |
Answer: | No, this does not include a case. |

With its powerful 7.8 amp motor, The DEWALT 1/2-Inch VSR Drill is capable of delivering speeds of 0 to 850 rpm. This translates to quick, versatile drilling and driving. At the heart of the DW235G's long-lasting performance is a set of heat-treated, helical-cut steel gears that provide extended tool life and exceptional durability.
Designed for Versatility and Durability
As versatile as it is powerful, the DW235G functions well for both steel and wood applications. When working with a spade bit in wood, the drill offers a 1-1/2-inch capacity, and with an auger bit in wood, it can handle a 1-1/8-inch bit. The drill can handle a 2-1/8-inch self-feed bit and a 3-1/2-inch hole saw in wood. It can also handle a 1/2-inch twist bit or a 2-inch hole saw in steel.
The DW235G's keyed 1/2-inch chuck grips the bit securely to prevent slippage, and metal gear housing provides added durability.

Comfortable handling goes a long way toward ensuring accurate results. The DW235G is built with an ergonomic grip, and its two-finger rubber trigger makes power control easy. A 360-degree side handle gives you hand-position options for improved user comfort and better overall command of the drill. And it weighs an easy-to-manage 4.9 pounds, decreasing user fatigue after extended use.

User questions & answers
Question: | I am an older woman who uses a drill a few times a year for household projects and to remove screws. . Is this more drill than I need |
Answer: | Yes, it is a very powerful drill. Depending on your use I would suggest a 12 volt portable drill such as a Rigid or similar. The difference is in the torque available from each type. The corded drill, even though it has a handle for better control if the bit jams could break fingers or a wrist. The battery drills are quite capable of doing most jobs around the house or farm. |
Question: | Is it 220 voltage |
Answer: | No, 110/120v |
Question: | Is the pistol grip removable |
Answer: | if you are referring to the straight item with the black handle (they call it a 360 degree side handle), then yes, it is removable. it provides an extra two-handed grip for drilling something substantial if you are referring to the yellow pistol grip, then no, it is part of the main housing and not detachable. |
Question: | Does the 360 degree handle have notches that fit matching protrusions on the drill, so when you tighten the 360 degree handle drill will not spin |
Answer: | Side Handle:WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, ALWAYS operate the tool with the side handleproperly installed and tightened. Failure to do so may result in the side handle slipping during tooloperation and subsequent loss of control. Hold tool with both hands to maximize control.A side handle may be supplied with your drill. Side handles are included with these drills: DW235G,DW245, DW246. The side handle clamps to the front of the gear case and can be rotated 360degrees to permit right- or left-hand use. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does anyone know a good carrying case for this drill |
Answer: | The spec sheet says 1 lb. It might be a little heavier than that, but it feels like any corded drill its size. Not too heavy and pretty comfortable in your hand. |
Question: | Does this Drill come with a case or bag |
Answer: | 0 to 1200 rpm |
Question: | What is the difference between your DW511 and DWE5010 hammer drills |
Answer: | Mine does not and would not work with 220-440 volts. There would have to be a voltage reducer or adapter. |
Question: | speed reversible drill having |
Answer: | If you want Ft-Lb of torque, sorry, I have not tested it. You can take the published output RPM and amps and calculate it by reworking the following formulas: Torque X RPM/5250 = HP & 740W=1HP. What I know, the Dewalt DWD220 has enough torque to twist off a cobalt drill bit and wrench my arm doing so. The Dewalt DWD220 has it use like using if for a service substitute to power a piece of equipment that uses up to a 3 HP motor, for repair jogging by putting a Love-Joy coupler on a 1/2" shaft. For drilling Stainless Steel which I do a lot, the Dewalt DWD220 is too fast and can not be slowed down enough, so I use my 20V Max 1/2" drill instead, it has better speed control. |
