12 best breaker hammers
A breaker hammer, also known as a demolition hammer or a jackhammer, is a powerful and heavy-duty power tool used for breaking up and demolishing hard materials such as concrete, asphalt, masonry, and rock. These tools are commonly used in construction, renovation, and demolition projects. Here's what you need to know about breaker hammers:
Heavy-Duty Construction: Breaker hammers are robust and designed to withstand the rigors of heavy-duty demolition work. They are built with strong materials to handle the high impact and vibration involved in breaking hard surfaces.
Types: There are two main types of breaker hammers: electric and pneumatic (air-powered). Electric models are typically more common for general construction, while pneumatic ones are often used in industrial settings.
Power Source: Electric breaker hammers are powered by electricity and need to be plugged into an electrical outlet. Pneumatic models require a source of compressed air, usually provided by a separate air compressor.
Impact Mechanism: Breaker hammers use a high-impact mechanism to generate powerful blows that break apart materials. This mechanism can be driven by an electric motor or compressed air.
Bits and Chisels: Breaker hammers use various types of bits and chisels that are interchangeable to suit different demolition tasks. Common attachments include flat chisels, point chisels, and asphalt cutters.
Vibration Dampening: Many modern breaker hammers incorporate vibration dampening technology to reduce operator fatigue and discomfort during extended use.
Variable Speed: Some models offer variable speed settings, allowing you to adjust the impact rate and power output to match the specific material and task at hand.
Safety Features: Breaker hammers often come with safety features such as anti-vibration handles, trigger locks, and kickback protection to enhance user safety.
Application: Breaker hammers are used for a wide range of applications, including demolishing concrete slabs, breaking up foundations, removing tiles, cutting through asphalt, and more.
Portability: While breaker hammers are heavy and powerful, many models are designed with portability in mind. They may have wheels or handles for easier transport on job sites.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance is essential to keep breaker hammers in good working condition. This includes cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting the tool for wear and tear.
Safety Gear: When operating a breaker hammer, operators should wear appropriate safety gear, including safety glasses, hearing protection, a dust mask, and gloves, to protect themselves from flying debris, noise, and dust.
In summary, breaker hammers are heavy-duty power tools used for demolishing and breaking up hard materials in construction and renovation projects. They come in electric and pneumatic varieties, offer variable speed settings, and use interchangeable bits and chisels. Safety precautions are crucial when using these powerful tools, and regular maintenance helps ensure their longevity and performance.

User questions & answers
Question: | is this came with breake tool and dolly |
Answer: | All electric motor require 2 carbon brush contacts. The one I ordered came with a set of 2, but I have not used it enough to need any maintenance yet. |
Question: | Do you have 220 volts version ? Thanks |
Answer: | Absolutely. I have used it to break up 150 linear feet of concrete footing that ranges from 3" to 6" thick. My personal preference is to use the flat bit, not the pointed bit. |
Question: | Will this work for driving stakes (obviously with a different attachment than what comes standard) or would the collar prevente a cup drive bit? Thank |
Answer: | I bought the tr89105 which came with the point and flat chisel to serve my purpose. I added the tr89102 spade shovel thinking I would need it to break up soil and never really used it. I agree with you to get the tr89105 and add accessories if you need them. Great Product. Two years and still a BEAST! |
Question: | It says tool only under style name. Does this item also contain the two wheel cart and 4 bits |
Answer: | While the weight and power of the demolition hammer would make you think it would need a heavy cord, actually I have never had a 14/3 gauge extension cord ever even heat up. I think a 12/3 might be better, but I find I am actually pulling the trigger less than half the time, and spend most of the time repositioning for the next break. So I don't think it matters much. It is not constantly on like a saw, compressor, welder, etc. |

What Is Crystalline Silica?
Silica, often referred to as quartz, is a very common mineral. It is found in many materials common on construction sites, including soil, sand, concrete, masonry, rock, granite, and landscaping materials. The dust created by cutting, grinding, drilling or otherwise disturbing these materials can contain crystalline silica particles. These dust particles are very small and invisible to the naked eye. When inhaled, even in very small amounts, silica dust can cause serious health hazards. Each exposure to silica adds to the lung damage.
What Is Silicosis?
Silicosis is a disabling, irreversible, and sometimes fatal lung disease. When a worker inhales crystalline silica, the lungs react by developing hard nodules and scarring around the trapped silica particles. If the nodules become too large, breathing becomes difficult and death can result. There is no cure for this disease, but it is 100% preventable.
Get Compliant
Whether you are concerned about the health of your employees, your health, compliance or increasing productivity, Bosch has developed PRO+GUARD protection systems. In order to move toward compliancy and protection, it is critical that every component in the system is designed to effectively remove dust. Bosch dust collection systems can reduce airborne dust, helping to create a safer and healthier working environment.
Protect Yourself & Others
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued a final rule to curb lung cancer, silicosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and kidney disease in Americaʼs workers by limiting their exposure to respirable crystalline silica. While using power tools with a dust attachment/ accessory and dust extractors with the right filter, exposure to silica can be drastically reduced. The new standard went into effect on June 23, 2016, and employers are required to comply with all obligations of the standard by June 23, 2017.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use a smaller hammer to remove 4-5” concrete pad |
Answer: | 120 volts as I read. |
Question: | Will it penetrate basalt rock in a timely manner |
Answer: | This may be difficult for such a small area of an inch or two. You'll have to use a smaller chisel to carve out whatever area you need. Score it like perforated paper and slowly take out the broken pieces. Don't rush. |
Question: | Would this tool drive ground rods in rocky soil |
Answer: | No, its 120 volt, regular USA plug. I thought the same thing as you when i saw 3600 watts. I researched it and 3600 watts is a theoretical instantaneous peak. I connected my hammer to a power meter and during normal operation of breaking up a concrete floor the continuous power draw was only 250-350 watts. In fact , I could not force my hammer to draw more than 500 watts. I don't know what one would do to make it pull 3600 watts! |
Question: | is the body made of steel or plastic |
Answer: | It will break rock. If you are breaking solid, thick limestone, it may be a little tough going. I'm not sure whether a 35-lb would be sufficient, or if a 70-lb hammer would be better for you, but this will break rock. A lot of folks, myself included, have had some issues, likely with an o-ring, where the hammer leaks oil from above the chisel. But the hammer itself continues to work and has good power. |

Question: | what floor scrapers work with this hammer |
Answer: | It depends how many sq feet you are trying to brake up and how tick is your driveway. I think this device can be used for braking up a driveway but you will have to work much harder then with a big heavy jack hammer. I have used it on rocky soil for about 20 hours and for that this works great. |
Question: | do you have bit to drive inch and half black iron pipe |
Answer: | I think it is...for what it’s worth, this one works great I’m very happy with mine. It cost about the same money to rent one around here. I am able to run it on my small quiet 2000 watt Yamaha generator...so handy |
Question: | What size breaker is recommended for this unit |
Answer: | THE HAMMER WEIGHS 30 LBS. WITHOUT THE CHISEL. GOOD LUCK WORKS WELL!! |
Question: | Anyone had experience with this unit driving 8 ft ground rods in clay/rocky ground? How effective |
Answer: | Yes, it is 2200W , 110V, 20amp machine. |
