User questions & answers

Question: I want to use this to clean, can this still be used for long periods of time
Answer: Just show emf reading and temperature
Question: Is this drill reversable? I do not see a reverse button or lever on the drill in the photo
Answer: It takes one 9 volt battery, which I have yet to purchase to try it out!!
Question: Does it have reverse option?can you ise it as driver too
Answer: I am thinking about 20 feet maximum.
Question: Looks good, price is right. but, if battery life is not an issue, why would anyone buy a corded drill? at $40 price seems very good, even if corded
Answer: When I was researching what Mel meter was best to get, I believe there was one more above this with a few more light indicators on it. But this one does work great. It has a red light on top that turns on and off. I could be wrong, but I think the lights were a K2 metter on top of the other.

User questions & answers

Question: Had my drill about 1 1/2 years and now batteries are dead and won't charge. Can I get new batteries or is it the charger
Answer: Its perfect for cleaning as it is not a very long drill. I have used it to mix buckets and buckets of concrete. When used at full speed from time to time ot keeps itself cool. When you rest, let the tool rest as well...
Question: can you interchange bits on the fly or need to use another tool to loosen, then tighten and then set.. :| (like my current B&D drill
Answer: It is reversible. It has that 'push through' design of the L and R button right above the trigger, not the lever. It feels very solid unlike the lever on some other models. If you are on the fence, go for it, it feels 100x better than how goofy it looks in the picture, solid good tolerances.
Question: How much rpm does it have
Answer: Does it have reverse option?can you ise it as driver too?
Question: Does this item come with a battery charger
Answer: A corded drill is superior to a cordless drill when used for sanding discs, cleaning rust and metal with rotary wire brushes, or rotary buffing with a wool or foam pad. This is because a corded drill can spin up to 2800-3000 rpm, while a cordless drill typically spins at half that speed or less, around 1400-1500 rpm. A corded drill has more torque/power than a cordless drill. A corded drill will last longer, running under its maximum load, than the human user can last, but a cordless drill will lose it charge at some point, and the greater the load the faster the battery is depleted. The only time I need a corded drill to just drill holes is for jobs like drilling 3/4" holes through railroad ties over and over again when building a retaining wall. A cordless drill is best for most use cases, but corded drills have their place in the arsenal.

Hitachi DS18DSAL 18-Volt Lithium Ion Compact Pro Driver Drill with Flashlight

Metabo HPT

Based on 534 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Rated "Best Buy" by a leading consumer publication and covered by Hitachi's Lifetime Lithium Ion tool warranty, the DS18DSAL is the first in Hitachi's Compact Professional series featuring an 18V Lithium Ion slide battery. It is impressively lightweight and compact at 7.7" in length and weighing only 3.3lbs. The DS18DSAL is the ideal driver drill for anyone seeking professional power in the most compact, lightweight and ergonomic tool body on the market.

Powered by a long-lasting 1.5Ah lithium ion slide battery, the Hitachi DS18DSAL 18-Volt Compact Pro Lithium Ion Drill/Driver packs a powerful punch. Efficient and easy to handle, this variable-speed tool provides professional power in the most compact, lightweight, and ergonomically designed body currently available. For added convenience, it comes with Hitachi's UB18DAL Lithium Ion Flashlight.

Compact Design Minimizes User Fatigue Without Sacrificing Performance

The first in Hitachi's compact Pro Series of cordless tools, the DS18DSALmeasures only 7.7 inches in length and weighs 3.5 pounds, making it easy to hold and use all day without stress or strain. The compact design also provides the power and performance of a pro-grade 18-volt tool, making operation as efficient and dependable as it is comfortable.

Variable Speed and 22-Stage Clutch for Versatility

This impressive driver drill features a variable speed trigger to set speed from zero to 350 RPM or zero to 1,500 RPM so you always match the right speed to the job. Additionally, the clutch has 22 driving stages and a special mode for drilling, allowing for both high torque applications and precision driving.

First-in-its-Class Torque for Heavy-Duty Jobs

With unmatched torque in its class, the DS18DSAL powers through even the toughest jobs. 460 in./lbs. of torque gives this easy-to-handle model the necessary boost to take on hardwoods, masonry, and other heavy-duty drilling.

Belt Hook, LED Light, and 1/2-Inch Ratcheting Chuck for User-Friendly Operation

The DS18DSAL comes with a convenient metal belt hook and an LED job light to illuminate your work surface. It also features a keyless 1/2-inch ratcheting metal chuck that accepts a wide variety of bits, giving you greater flexibility. Finally, externally accessible carbon brushes allow you to easily and economically replace the brushes when they are worn, thus ensuring longer tool life.

Lightweight 1.5 Ah Lithium Ion Slide Battery for Long-Lasting Power

This driver drill is powered by a long-lasting 1.5 Ah lithium ion slide battery. Designed without the vertical chamber of a post-style battery, this battery glides easily into place and allows the DS18DSAL to have an ergonomic handle. And because this Lithium Ion battery weighs roughly half as much as a NiCd or NiMH battery, you can work longer, with better accuracy.

Steady Stream of Power for Precision and Consistency

As with all of Hitachi's lithium ion batteries, the tool receives a steady stream of power for the duration of every battery charge, from the moment the trigger is pulled until the charge cycle is exhausted. And with up to three times the number of charge cycles of traditional batteries, you won't have to waste money on costly replacements.

Included Lithium Ion Flashlight for Added Flexibility

As a bonus, the DS18DSAL comes with Hitachi's UB18DAL Lithium Ion Flashlight. Adjustable to five lighting positions, this flashlight stands alone while you work and can be aimed where you need illumination. A shoulder strap makes for easy, comfortable carrying, and a low-battery indicator light helps ensure that you don't run out of power mid-use. And because the UB18DAL runs on the same 18-volt slide batteries as the driver drill, it shares the same lithium ion benefits of long battery life, lasting power per charge, and lightweight convenience.

Warranty Information

For even more value and peace of mind, each of these tools is covered by Hitachi's 10-year lithium ion tool warranty and two-year lithium ion battery warranty.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the amperage
Answer: I purchased this drill because of its excellent ratings. I'm a girl, so the jobs I've asked it to perform have been minimal; however, I'm having some repairs and updating done around my house, and my contractor loves it! He has drilled a few holes in concrete to set screws for a metal threshold, so that much I know. In my opinion, it would adequately drill holes in fence posts. I plan to use it when we put a new fence up in the spring.
Question: Does this product come with drill bits
Answer: I just weighed my drill for you. It weighs 3 pounds, 7.4 ounces, including the battery. Since 8 ounces is half a pound, the drill, with the battery, is indeed very, very close to 3.5 pounds. Further, now that I have used it for a while, I like it even more. The balance is excellent, and, as I said in my review, the slender grip handle really suits my small hands. I have used the drill for numerous drilling and driving projects and have not yet needed to swap batteries or charge a battery. I think battery life is very good.
Question: good drill for drilling holes in fence posts, a few in concrete foundation? I'm novice, is this easy to operate/set up
Answer: Hi there! The chuck on this tool is metal. Hope this helps!
Question: lb is with or without battery? I would like to know the total weight of drill + battery
Answer: This item is a 18V Hammer drill Have a great day

User questions & answers

Question: Will this fit a ridgid dp15501 drill press? switch has a part number of
Answer: Yes must likely
Question: This works with dayton model 2lkr6b
Answer: I looked at photos for your bench grinder and the switch does look the same, although I would need a wiring diagram to be sure. But at this price it would be worth it to just order it and see. In my opinion, it would work just fine.
Question: central machine ,10 " table saw ,will it work
Answer: I have no idea if it will work on a certain saw. If your switch has 4 contacts, then yes it should work fine. If your switch has 2 contacts it probably won't work. These toggle switches are standard sizes but there are 4 contact or 2 contact styles. Just buy the one that matches your saw. Unplug the saw from the wall and pry the switch housing out to see how many connectors are inside.
Question: Will this replace a Hitachi 972-082Z switch
Answer: Yes, this switch will replace a Hitachi 972-082Z switch.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this made in China
Answer: I drilled through a concrete foundation with a new 1/4 inch drill bit in seconds if that helps!
Question: is battery lifetime guaranteed
Answer: 5/16 but its adjustable for many different sizes i recently used it on a job drilling into concrete with a 1/2 inch masonary bit and it went through the 8 inch slab like butter
Question: Is the charger for this unit. able to support 230Volts
Answer: I'm unsure if they do. Try to contact them directly. I know that we currently do not. Have a great day.
Question: Are the batteries on this compatible with the older models? I have a DS18DL drill driver
Answer: NO STD. SIZES FOR THESE: See the Q&A session at http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/60761/Drill-Chuck-Key-Specification-Sizing . MY FDV 16VB2 manual says it has a half-inch chuck (so if yours is 5/8", even the drill's Model # won't help you), & the chuck key comes leashed to the power cord plug, for SAFETY--how could you lose that? Maybe Hitachi Koki or a Hitachi Authorized Service Center would sell you one?

User questions & answers

Question: This impact feet to Europe charge
Answer: Sadly, but true, it is made in China...even Bosch has tools made in China. Quality is OK, I just wish that it was made in the USA.
Question: Does the drill have a small light
Answer: I have no idea about a lifetime guarantee on the battery, I know that the battery lasts a long time before needing a charge. I only use the drill occasionally for home tasks and have I not used up my first initial charge on battery #1 since buying the drill about a year ago. The battery holds it's charge well over a long period of time. I found this drill to be both great quality and very powerful. I am happy I chose this particular drill!
Question: I have a previous version drill KC10DFL and battery BCL1015. Is the battery and charger from the KC10DFL2 compatible with the previous version
Answer: The charger states on it 110v only. I tried a step down transformer from 230 -> 110v and the charger would not work with this. In the end just plugged the charger direct into 230v and it seems to work fine (for around 4 months). I suspect the 110v and the 230v chargers that hitachi offers are exactly the same. Hope this helps.
Question: Does the built in light for the drill and impact driver illuminate the work space well? Or is there a shadow from the bits that cover the light
Answer: No. the DV18DBL use a new slide-type battery called BSL18xx. The DS18DL use an old HXP type battery. They are not compatible.
