User questions & answers

Question: If this product contains petroleum distillates, how can it be for use on rubber
Answer: Mission Automotive Silicone Paste. I bought an 8oz jar of it in 2018 and have barely made a dent in it, hehe. The stuff is great! I started using silicone when I bought an underwater metal detector years ago. The manual was very specific that you shouldn't use Vaseline on the rubber seals! I had a small container of the stuff that was about the size of three silver dollars stacked up... I had gone thru about half of it and decided to get some more. After looking at prices, I figured it was worth the big cost savings just to buy a big thing of it instead of a small tube! As infrequent as i use it, it will still be sitting on my shelf, in great condition, for the next 10-20 years! :)
Question: Can I spray this on a cloth and wipe onto part to be lubricated from that, or will it dry on the cloth before I have a chance to do so
Answer: it does not dry like an alcohol product. you should have no problem spraying it on a cloth and using almost right away (go answer the phone, use the restroom). if you leave the cloth until tomorrow - not so much.
Question: Does this contain petroleum distillates
Answer: Yes, it does. The full list of "ingredients" are "Contains heptane, branched, cyclic and linear, petroleum distillates, propane, butane."
Question: Does 14-ounce size come with straw sprayer? Thank you
Answer: No. My 14oz. can did NOT come with a straw.

User questions & answers

Question: what weight is this oil in cst
Answer: yes this intimate silicone lube is shipped in a discreet brown box by amazon.com
Question: Is this comparable with air rifle seals
Answer: Sticky no. Stain no. It's not the easiest to wash off, by any means. It spilled on the carpet one time, i don't think anything other than shampooing will get it up. If you get it on the sheets it will take several washes to get it out, but it doesnt not discolor or scent what it gets on
Question: will this work on mechanical keyboard switches
Answer: This product is entirely composed of α-Methyl-ω-methoxypolydimethylsiloxane, a chemical that is registered as CAS No. 63148-62-9. Alternate names for this substance are Silicone Oil and Poly(Dimethyl)Siloxane.
Question: I'm looking for "liquid silicone" for my elliptical wheels on an aluminum ramp...is this what I need
Answer: This is a thicker viscosity silicone oil rather than a silicone grease (which is more of a solid/semisolid). It can be used in a similar way, but I would use a silicone grease in an area that isn't as easy to access for longer lasting lubrication

Question: The crisper drawers in my fridge bind, and I'd like to lubricate them. Would this be a good choice
Answer: Oil based ..
Question: does this contain any silicone
Answer: I really like this lotion, I use it as a shaving lotion , rub it on my face, forhead and neck. Have no problemwith my eyes.
Question: Can this be used on plastic? the narrow tip attachments on my vacuum cleaner is stuck on and won't come off. its plastic. can i use this on plastic
Answer: No smell at all, pairs with any cologne you may wear with it.
Question: Can this be used to spray the underside of a lawn mower deck
Answer: I do think it is too thick to use as a mist. I don't recall ever having seen this combination of scents in mist form actually. It drove me crazy for awhile that I couldn't always find the same scent combination in say, body lotion and hair conditioner, for example. But maybe lavender combines differently with orchid than it does with green tea. It was so frustrating to me that Lavender/Wild Orchid body oil doesn't smell the same, at least on me, as Lavender/Wild Orchid body lotion. Likewise with the other scents. I sure wish it did. I don't think I've helped you as much as you have helped me, because I will now go looking for Lavender/Wild Orchid mist and see if it smells the same...................;-) while you may be experimenting until "the right one comes along." Good luck! I hope to hear a report on your results!

User questions & answers

Question: what % silicone is used? Thanks
Answer: The Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for WD-40 Specialist Water Resistant Silicone Lube (available online at wd40specialist.com) lists the weight percent or percent by weight of silicone (poly dimethylsiloxane) as 1-5 percent (shown at bottom of page 1 of the MSDS). Page 1 of the MSDS also lists a toll-free Information telephone number for the WD-40 Company (1-888-324-7596) if you need additional info about this product not included on the MSDS. I called this number to confirm the percentage of silicone in this lube. A very courteous operator indicated that a product technical specialist would either call me back or send me an email within 24-48 hours with the answer. I gave her my name and telephone number and should be hearing back within 2 days. You can use this same strategy to get answers to any other technical questions you may have about this product. Hope this helps.
Question: How does this smell? I need something to stop a squeaky brake pedal, so this would be used inside the passenger area of my jeep
Answer: Short Answer: It smells a little minty with a hint of oiliness. I wouldn't be surprised if they used a little oil of wintergreen in it, but the exact formula is a trade secret... (but that's not all you need to know). It's probably a pretty good choice for your application.Longer Answer: It's probably a reasonable choice, if you get the version of WD40 that's the silicone spray, which is shown in the picture that came with your request for information. It turns out that WD40 has become a brand name rather than a product name -- and they have several quite different products with different capabilities on the market (... which is why I amended my original answer to this question, because I -- somewhat sloppily -- thought was aimed at the original WD40). If you tried to use regular old non-silicone WD40, it would probably not be the best of ideas for your brake pedal: Old style plain-old WD40 is intended for use more as a water dispersal ("WD") agent rather than as a lubricant. It has very minimal lubrication capability. I recommend the version that you particularly inquired about, which is a more modern spray silicone lubricant. The silicone (which has a little odor, but not terribly strong). In any case, it's a good idea to put some newspaper or other material behind the area you're spraying, to avoid getting the oil on other surfaces -- silicones have a habit of spreading around (that's why they're good lubricants!) and can leave little oily spots that are hard to clean (unless you use a pine or orange oil cleaning material). My belief is that it probably would be optimal to have a little grease in the pedal linkage to prevent noise (becauses greases are great lubricants for things that don't move at high speed), but you're not apt to be able to get a grease -- even a spray -- into the squeaky nooks and crannies so that a silicone spray would be more likely to get to where the noise is coming from.BTW: The real use for which the original WD40 was developed was to keep water off metal surfaces that would cause them to corrode in humid environments -- e.g., missile fuel/oxidizer tanks that had to sit around for years. If you're interested, check out the Wikipedia entry on WD40: it's pretty fascinating. Here in FL, an occasional spray with WD40 will allow steel tools to last forever in a humid garage or shed or basement; without it, they're rusty and unusable in less than a year.
Question: What's the difference between this and regular WD
Answer: WD-40 is not a lubricant. This is.
Question: Can this be used on vinyl windows to slide easier
Answer: Yes!! That's what we bought it for and it has worked miracles. The windows are like new. I keep a can handy because it does wear off but just another spray and the windows work again.

User questions & answers

Question: Did anyone receive a different can than what I’d in the picture
Answer: That's a good question, I would have never thought of that but I don't see why not if it doesn't say anything on the direction about not applying to the body paint or glass for that matter it works good at repelling the water that's for sure.
Question: thick like oil or thin like liquid wrenc
Answer: It did not work for me last winter. Before this winter I used a water repellent like Rain X and that has seemed to work better. The Snow and Ice repellent is good for shovels. I also spray it in the wheel wells of my car to keep slush from building up. If you do this be careful not to spray the repellents on your tires as it could make them slippery. Also, you can get this product at a lower price at Lowe's. Hope this helps.
Question: Could this product be used to make bathroom faucet "spot resistant"? I accidentally bought faucet w/out that feature. I like it - but oh the spots
Answer: This product is much much better than cooking spray. I used a few different brands of cooking spray on my snow shovels and my snow thrower. The cooking spray is messy (build up) not really effective compared to the Dupont Teflon Snow & Ice Repellant. There may be other Teflon sprays out there that are as effective as Dupont. Don't know.
Question: Would the aerosol silicone spray work on a 30" fiberglass awning canopy to prevent snow build-up
Answer: This is a water based formula

User questions & answers

Question: Grytox gpl 205- can i use on dishwasher rubber seals around door? safe? best option? thx
Answer: I do not see silicone listed on the can, but I would recommend you check out a DuPont web site to verify.
Question: To anyone who has used both, how does this compare to super lube? https://www.amazon.com/super-lube-21030-synthetic-grease/dp/b000xbh9hi/ref=pd_lpo_v
Answer: Used it when assembling a plastic big wheel for the kid to make the steering easier (the column that attached the steering to the wheel had too much friction). Worked stunningly well. Seems to have held up without any issue. I would never have tried such a thing with WD40.
Question: Can I use this to lube a piston in a air gun
Answer: This is a general purpose lubricant. It can be used on basically anything. When applied to metal, it protects from rust but won't remove it. The basic advantage of this lubricant is that it tolerates higher heats before breaking down so you won't need to use it as often as other options. I don't think it's as greasy either.
Question: Is this what grade of Krytox 205 is this
Answer: I have used my blower twice on a single day without reapplication, but for best results in heavy wet snow, I would recommend reapplication with each new use. I notice that after 5 or so hours, the force of the blown, icy snow seems to erode the product layer off the blower. That said, a single can goes a very long way and this is the most effective product I have used in 40 years of shoveling and blowing snow.

Krytox High Performance Synthetic Lubricants

Premium grease and oil for bearings, valves, seals, and other applications over a wide temperature range and under extreme conditions

Krytox High Performance Synthetic Lubricants

Krytox oils and greases are based on perfluoropolyether (PFPE) oils. This series of synthetic fluorinated lubricants are used in extreme conditions, such as high temperatures up to 204 °C (400 °F), and will survive short-term peak temperatures of up to 220 °C (429°F). Chemically inert and safe for use around hazardous chemicals, these lubricants are nonflammable and also safe for use in oxygen service. Krytox oils and greases do not damage plastics or elastomers, nor cause corrosion to metals. They are commonly used as lubricants in aerospace, automotive, industrial, and semiconductor applications, as well as in solving many other routine lubrication problems. In addition, they provide exceptionally long lifetimes in sealed-for-life bearings and extend re-lubrication intervals in bearings that require re-lubrication.

Biologically Inert While Retaining High Temperature and Pressure Stability

Krytox oils and greases are silicone free. They do not contain any VOC materials or chlorine, and are not hazardous to the atmosphere or ozone layer. They are biologically and environmentally inert.

The fully fluorinated Krytox high-temperature stability provides bottom-line savings from improved reliability, and a reduction in grease usage and manpower through extended re-lubrication intervals. Excellent film strength reduces wear to reduce maintenance costs. Under high loads, the viscosity increases to provide support and absorb the pressure.

A Multitude of Applications

For those who regularly manage lubrication issues, every day is a fight against the forces of excess friction, vibration and wear. Krytox oils, greases and solvents offer advanced lubricant solutions for a broad variety of industrial applications including: bearings and sintering bearings, electric motors, functional fluids, gearboxes, extreme temperatures, o-rings, seals, and valves.

Krytox GPL 105 and 106 Oils

Krytox GPL 105 and 106 oils are a clear, colorless, fluorinated synthetic oil that is non-reactive, nonflammable, safe in chemical and oxygen service, and are long lasting.

Krytox GPL 205 and 206 Greases

Krytox GPL 205 and 206 greases are PTFE thickened, contain no additives, and can be used on components that come in contact with chemicals. Typical applications include valves, instruments, or bearings in contact with chemicals, including alcohols, ammonia, solvents, steam, acids and bases, and oxygen systems, including LOX and GOX. They are commonly used as seal and o-ring lubricants, and are compatible with all types of seals.

Krytox GPL 215 and 216 Greases

Krytox GPL 215 grease contains molybdenum disulfide for extreme pressure (EP) conditions and should be used for slow speed or heavily loaded applications, where there is no danger of the molybdenum disulfide additive reacting with chemicals or causing contamination.

Krytox GPL 225 and 226 Greases

Krytox GPL 225 and 226 greases contain an anti-corrosion / anti-wear inhibitor and is ideal for corrosive environments, where there is no danger of the sodium nitrite additive reacting with chemicals or causing contamination problems. Typical applications are automotive bearings, sealed pump bearings, electric motor bearings, and general-purpose bearings.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this be used on a satellite dish
Answer: Thank you for your question! No, the 3M 08897 Silicone Lubricant Dry would not be the appropriate product for your application. We would suggest contacting the satellite dish manufacturer for a product suggestion.
Question: Does this have petrolium? It doesn't say anywhere
Answer: Not to sure what you mean by petroleum? It contains in this order: Isobutane (CAS#(75-28-50); Isoparaffinic Hydrocarbon Solvent (CAS#64742-48-9); Poly(dimethylsoiloxane), (CAS# 63148-62-9); Heptane (CAS#142-82-5). This is a very heavy/thick silicone spray. I use it on everything, car tires, rubber molding & trim, door slides, doesn't stain or evaporate away. It's worth the price.Let me know if you have any more questions. Check CAS#s, and MSDS sheet.
Question: Can i use this to stop the squeaky of my hardwood floor? i saw some posts saying it's safer than wd
Answer: Due to resultant slickness, I would not use this where people or pets walk, it would risk a fall. Care should be taken that it not get on floors, it is not for walking surfaces. Please do not apply it in this way. Even furniture polish overspray onto floors can result in hazardous slippery falls. Squeaks in floors would best be fixed through different means. I am no carpenter, but I would think the squeak is probably underneath- between the hardwood and subfloor and the spray would not reach anyway. It is a very good product, but just not suitable for application to a floor because of the slippery result.
Question: does this work on the bar on my blinds? also does it come with a long straw thing to attach to get in difficult places
Answer: Should work for your blinds, but no it does not come with a straw. Great lubricant though. I use it instead of WD-40 now.
