User questions & answers

Question: Will this show the max torque used? I want to measure the torque required to break a bolt loose
Answer: The warranty is implied for lifetime replacement under normal use consistent with its intended design. The package states the following, "QUALITY REPLACEMENT GUARANTEE: If this product does not meet your expectations during its usable life, we will replace it or provide replacement parts free of charge. To arrange for shipping of you replacement product or parts, or if you have any other questions, email us at [email protected] or call us at 1-888-648-8665."
Question: Does the display indicate the torque applied upon reaching a specfic angle? This way it's possible to look for fasteners that may 'have an issue
Answer: Mine came with case
Question: Does the the display hold the torque reading so it can be viewed when the wrench is removed from the lug nut or does it go back to zero at that point
Answer: Found (6/7/2019) on Tekton website... “We also hand pick partners who are experts in their fields—whether they’re traditionally a part of the tool industry or not. We seek out the best subcontractors and suppliers in the U.S. and across the world, focusing on wherever we can find the best partners to make the best tool. Country of origin is listed on each tool's product page. At this time, less than 10 percent of our tools are made in China, 15 percent in the United States, and about 75 percent in Taiwan. We challenge ourselves and those we work with to increasingly higher standards of rigor, precision, and creativity. And, in the end, we bring you a tool that’s designed and engineered better and more intentionally than anything else out there.”
Question: Does it have a headphone jack
Answer: There is a switch that allows you to reverse the direction but this should not be used to "break loose" a previously tightened bolt, only to back off something you're working on. As for the pipe question, yes, that is fine as long as you are still able to feel the click. Torque is torque whether you apply 1 pound 250 feet away or 250 pounds one foot away.

User questions & answers

Question: Whats the total lenght of the tool
Answer: 24 1/4 inches (61.6 cm)
Question: will it torque cw and ccw
Answer: It will only torque clockwise
Question: What is the approximate Chinesium content of this tool
Answer: This tool is holding up very well under some high torqueing applications. I have taken it to 180ft/lbs repeatedly with no problem at all. The adjuster is solid and locks in to the setting. Overall a good tool for a serious mechanic that doesn't require a top of the line wrench but needs something that will do the job well. This GearWrench is holding up very well so far.
Question: Will this be accurate at the lowest setting? I need to torque engine mounts to 32 foot lbs
Answer: I have used this wrench for a crank pulley bolt but not anything at a low ft/lb setting. But for engine mount bolts I think you will be fine. If you were using for any type of engine work (i.e. crank mains, rods, heads etc) I would recommend you getting calibrated regardless.
Question: Where is it made
Answer: My packaging does not say. Customer service is in Georgia. Proto used to be all USA made.
Question: Does it come with a calibration certificate
Answer: yes
Question: How many teeth does the ratchet head have
Answer: Mine has 43 teeth. Have used it twice so far and have had no problems.
Question: Does it come in a box? What is blackhawk compared to proto
Answer: Yes it comes in a case and Blackhawk and proto are the same company. I believe Proto bought Blackhawk, both are good tools.
