User questions & answers

Question: What are the stones actually made of? Crystolon or silicon carbide - Aluminum oxide or India
Answer: Based on info from manufacturer
Question: what is the difference between this model and the $200 model both made by norton
Answer: Just size, if your a busy restaurant or caterer spend the extra money but if it's home or light small business it's great.
Question: Are the three grits included here (100, 150, 320) fine enough? I see so many stones at grits 1,000 - 8,000. Are 100 - 320 good for kitchen knives
Answer: I have a set of mercer knifes and it keeps them sharp the steel is for normal use and I use the med and fine about once a month but the higher grits 1000-8000 are for more of show knifes that you can take the marks that you put on it with the 320 off like a buffer would do
Question: Does the oil come with it
Answer: A small bottle, yes. But I ordered a larger extra one. My husband loves this thing, he takes it to most of the holiday, get togethers and hunting season and offers to sharpen knifes and they love it. It gives him something to do during the visit and it has people living close going to go get their "dull" knifes.

User questions & answers

Question: What stones can be used without oils? On 313 system
Answer: If you are asking if there is a stone that is factory placed on this system, the answer is none. The frame allows for the replacement of stones. If you replaced the stones with water stones or diamond, then water would be used in the reservoir. If you replaced them with a ceramic stone then it would be used dry. The system is designed to use the factory stones with oil.
Question: Can I get new stones for the tri stone sharpener
Answer: Yes, the IM313 Sharpening System holds stones measuring 11.5" x 2.5" x .5"
Question: How much oil do I need to refill
Answer: Fill it just until one of the stones is in the oil while being in a flat position in the oil. You don't want to overfill these because you really don't need a lot of oil on them. The oil is there to not only lubricate the stone, but also clean off the metal particles. Also when over filling, it is very easy to spill the oil when moving the stone system.
Question: How often do you clean the oil basin and stones with soap & warm water or just a water rinse of the stones and oil basin to remove the slurry
Answer: You never ever want to wash the stones or oil basin. And you especially do not want to use soap and water, as water is polar and will never mix with oil and will be extremely difficult to remove if you wet the stones or basin. The only time you use water to sharpen on a stone is when you use wet type stones, like the Japanese sharpening stones. This stone set is oil based, the metals that you shave off will appear on your knife and you simple wipe that off with paper towel after you are done.If the oil gets very dirty and dark, but that won't happen for at least a good 100 times you use it probably, then you can simply throw away the oil and use new oil. You basically only use enough oil to coat the stone surface evenly.

  • LONG-LASTING: 4-1/2 oz. container has leak-resistant cap and spout designed for controlled pour

User questions & answers

Question: Made in usa
Answer: yes of course!!!
Question: I heard you use any kind of cooking oil instead on your wet stones. is it true? I've done it a few times because vegi or canola is way cheaper
Answer: A lot of cooks use vegetable oil when sharpening their knives. After a while the oil goes rancid, and your stone smells awful. Mineral oil will not go rancid, so it is your best bet. Make sure to clean your knife after you are finished sharpening it.
Question: Can you use this with diamond stones
Answer: Normally no. Check with the manufacturer of your stone/hone. My dmt diamond hones specifically say to use dry or with water. No oil.
Question: Do you use this oil on wet stones
Answer: I don't think any of the responses to your answer appreciate what a wet stone is. A wet stone is an abrasive that is made out of sediments and flakes away as you sharpen a knife. You need to soak wet stones in water to help this process. Wet stones produce a much finer surface because you are constantly exposing new grit. If you add oil to a wet stone, you will create a slurry that will not clear the surface. You use an oil on sharpening stones that are harder. The oil helps clear the metallic filings.. Again, DO NOT USE OIL ON A WET STONE!

Answer: If you are such a pansy, I recommend not using axes, knives, or even pencils.

Answer: I would not soak the stone, but yes apply the oil liberally to the stone before you start to sharpen. The oil helps to fill the pores of the stone keeping out the dirt and filings. After sharpening wipe everything down.
Question: What are the two grits of this stone
Answer: I think that 400/1000 would be really close concerning this combination stone.

User questions & answers

Question: Are other degree guides available. ........thank you
Answer: No, there are no other degree guides available expect the one provided with the product.
Question: Can this be used to sharpen wood lathe chisels
Answer: Yes, We recommend using flat blade chisels.
Question: Can this blade be used to sharpen straight razors
Answer: Yes sir. Just be careful of the angle of the blade. I am a butcher.and I try to keep a angle of 20 degrees when sharpening my knives.
Question: Can i use any oil or water instead
Answer: You have to soak it in water for 20 min prior to use. During the sharpening process, it's important to keep the stone wet by sprinkling water on it. Do this as soon as it starts to get dry. You want a slurry of water on the stone at all times. The slurry consists of water and some of the metal dust generated while sharpening. Do not wipe this off during the process because that is what helps hone the knife. Do not use oil on this stone because you will ruin it. Hope this helps!

Sharp Pebble 1000/6000 Dual Grit Sharpening Stone with Angle Guide

Made from aluminium oxide(corundum) material, provides a perfect two side grit combination to sharpen you’re knives and tools in a short time. Two stones for cost of one.

1000 Grit: Your go-to sharpening stone. If your knives have lost their edge and need a good sharpen, then this is the grit you should start with.

6000 Grit: Acts as a bridge between sharpening and superfine finishing. Used for super-fine finishing and to refine your knife edge.

Sharp Knife Works Better

Save hundreds of dollars in the purchase of new knives by revitalizing your existing ones. Whether you are a professional or occasional chef, an active outdoor/camping person this is one of the must-have tool. A sharp blade is predictable. When it strikes or is drawn across the food’s surface, it won’t slip. With a dull knife, it’s only a matter of time until you badly cut yourself.

A dull knife slows you down, while a sharp knife makes prep easier and more enjoyable.

Razor Sharp Results

Keep your everyday kitchen knives extremely sharp with this 1000/6000 grit Sharp Pebble Dual Grit Water-stone. Sharp knives need less brute force to cut than dull knives.

Less brute force means less damage to the food, which you can easily see by looking closely at the cut. Delicate ingredients, like herbs, will look fresher for longer if you slice through them cleanly, whereas a dull knife will crush more of the cells surrounding the cut, which ultimately accelerates wilting and discoloration.
