| Answer: | Yes they come very sharp. As with any tool they will become eventually dull. That's when you will appreciate that they are fairly easy to re-sharpen. I am experienced at hand sharpening knives, gouges etc fromvery small to very large so I get by with 400 grit carbide paper, followed with a green chrome hard strop. Their sharpening kit might be useful especially for getting gouges and V tools inside and outside as both of these tools can be difficult to sharpen. On basswood they cut like butter, and I have also used them on walnut and cherry. Very pleased with the selection of tools, and the quality of the cuts. I did add a 90 degree 5/8 inch V tool to the assortment. This is useful when carving Indian faces to do the side of the face down to the braids. Enjoy. |

| Answer: | First let me say I really love the carving set. I did not want to have a bunch of chisels laying around. As for the effort used to remove the cutters on a scale of 1 to 10. Medium effort 5 to 7 is required. As you used the set you will find the handle will release the cutters much easier than when you first got it. I recommend using a glove or a rag on the cutter while pulling it out from the handle. This will prevent you from cutting your fingers on the cutters. |

| Answer: | I find Flexcut to be the best available chisels. I compared them to new Swiss, European and Japanese chisels as well as my grandfather's American hand forged Buck Brother's chisels. Flexcut simply have a smoother interior finish than hand forged American, Swiss, European or the Japanese chisels I have sharpened. While sharpening flattens the outside of a chisel, it is much harder to flaten the interior of a V or U chisel. Especially the smaller ones. If the inside is striated or less than perfectly flat, the sharpened edge is undesireably rough and irregular. Yes, I have various shapes of white hard and black Arkansas whetstones, but never the exact shape. The mirror smooth Flexcut can simply be stropped on the Flexcut stropping tool for a super edge. They are slightly harder than Swiss tools, but not the glass hard easy to chip Japanese tools. I found the Mini-Palm set to be perfect for linoleum block carving and small wood detailing. I will buy more. |

I have used it on just about every type of carving. Flexcut hand tools are very good, they come sharp and they are easy to strop. As you do more carving you will likely want more variety of sizes and widths ( I think I have five different #3s alone) but this is a good beginner or general purpose set. |
