In my opinion, the only reason to use a pipe wrench over these is when cramped quarters don't allow the handles of these pliers space to work. Also, the comparison has to be between similar sized tools. The 12" knipex cobra is not comparable to a 24" pipe wrench, but the 22" knipex is.
