3 best clamp meter with temperatures
A clamp meter with temperature capabilities is a versatile handheld tool used for measuring electrical current in conductors and also for measuring temperature. This type of meter is commonly used by electricians, HVAC technicians, and other professionals who work with electrical systems and temperature-sensitive equipment. Here are some key points about clamp meters with temperature functions:
Current Measurement: The primary function of a clamp meter is to measure electrical current in a conductor without the need to disconnect the circuit. The clamp mechanism allows the user to simply clamp the meter around the conductor, and it will measure the current passing through it.This is especially useful for troubleshooting and maintenance of electrical systems.
AC and DC Current: Most clamp meters are capable of measuring both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC), making them suitable for a wide range of electrical applications.
Temperature Measurement: Some clamp meters come equipped with a built-in temperature sensor, typically a thermocouple or an infrared (IR) temperature sensor. This feature allows the user to measure the temperature of components, wires, or equipment being worked on. Temperature measurement can be critical in HVAC, industrial, and electrical applications.
Dual Display: Many modern clamp meters with temperature functions have a dual display, which shows both the current measurement and the temperature measurement simultaneously. This makes it easier for professionals to monitor multiple parameters at once.
Safety Features: Clamp meters are designed with safety in mind. They often feature non-contact voltage detection, which can alert the user to the presence of live electrical circuits without making physical contact. Additionally, many clamp meters have overload protection to prevent damage to the meter in high-current situations.
Data Logging: Some advanced clamp meters offer data logging capabilities, allowing users to record and analyze measurements over time. This is useful for diagnosing intermittent electrical issues.
Auto-Ranging and Manual Ranging: Clamp meters typically offer auto-ranging, where the meter automatically selects the appropriate measurement range based on the detected signal. They may also have a manual ranging option for more precise control.
Battery-Powered: Clamp meters are typically powered by batteries, making them portable and convenient for fieldwork. Battery life can vary depending on usage and the specific model.
Accessories: Depending on the model and brand, clamp meters may come with additional accessories such as test leads, a carrying case, or a thermocouple probe for temperature measurements.
When using a clamp meter with temperature capabilities, it's essential to follow safety protocols and guidelines for electrical work. Additionally, understanding the specifications and features of the specific meter you are using will help ensure accurate measurements and safe operation in various applications.

Question: | What are the concrete tips for automatic shutdown |
Answer: | Just an FYI to readers - To clarify what they mean by True RMS. True RMS, VRMS, ARMS and WRMS is the RMS measure of both the AC + DC components, it's integration of the area under the curve. This meter measures VACrms and AACrms, so it separates the DC component. It should state TRUE AC RMS, but like most meter manufacturers, they don't. There's a lot of misunderstanding on this thanks to marketing in companies. Take a look at a Fluke 187 or 189 where they actually measure TRUE RMS, but on the meter they call it AC+DC (in Blue). Most people are fine with this, since they typically measure line voltage or clean DC (battery or SMPS supplied). However, measure a DC source with high ripple current and you will not get a real measure, such as in automotive battery chargers that use a linear charger (large transformer based, not SMPS). Knowing the True RMS allows you to properly design for things such as thermal, efficiency and safety (fuses, breakers, thermal cutoffs, etc..) and to prevent over charging or over powering a battery or device. Class 2 devices, as those that fall under UL1310, have to comply to VRMS up to 2kHz for both indoor and outdoor ratings. Landscape lighting, LV pool lighting, USB 3.x Power Port also must comply. The reason for this in LV applications is because of the breakdown voltage of the skin. How to tell, if the AC symbol on the display only has a tilde ~ it's ACrms. If it has both the tilde ~ and a straight line – above it, its RMS. Some meters (Fluke 187, 189, 287 & 289) use the DC for both DC and RMS, so it will have both if the second function feature is RMS. The Dashed straight line on the flukes means it can also properly measure pulsed DC. |
Product features
To measure Alternating Current
Specifications:
If current> 3A, the orange display lights up.
The measuring range of AC current is 6A/60A/600A. Accuracy: ±(2.5%+5).
Note:
To measure the current you need to clamp the meter around one of the wires and not the whole power cord. The power cord contains two wires carrying current and ground wire. The current in two wires always flows in opposite directions, so the magnetic fields from two wires canceling each other, therefore the meter reads 0 A.
Grasp the individual current conductor to be measured and close the current clamp again. The measured conductor must be placed in the center of the clamp, otherwise, additional errors will occur.
To measure AC/DC Voltage
Specifications:
Press the "FUNC." key to change the AC or DC voltage measurement.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can it measures in rush |
Answer: | EVIDENTLY some "people" answer, or try to answer questions that they have no fricking idea about what they are talking about.... YES, it DOES measure "inrush", or more correctly, SURGE current. I have found that due to its sensitivity you need to select the high- 600 amp range since it will sense the current spikes that are VERY, VERY short. (IF your are measuring a smaller current, ~2-4 amps, then the 60 amp range will work). ALL you have to do is press the "min/max" button.... IF the 60 amp range does not work at first, then the 600 amp range should be selected.. THIS IS THE REAL ANSWER...... (And NO, you do not have to keep your "eye on it") Scheesh........ |
Question: | just received order and unit does not show that it is true rms. should it be posted on the item |
Answer: | Yes it should be labeled on the outside of the item where it is visible. If the description said it was true rms when placing your order, it should be. But if it's not labeled as true rms after you received order then only 2 things can be wrong. 1st they sent you the wrong item, or 2nd it was a factory erar that accured when the item was manufacturerd . Either or, id send it back and ask for the wright one |
Question: | can i use the clamp on devise to measure the negetive battery cable to find if something is drawing my battery down |

User questions & answers
Question: | How would i go about calibrating the thermocouple |
Answer: | Yes, with the baclklight on, it's viewable from straight-on to tilted away from yourself, but with the top tilted towards you it loses all contrast. Side-to-side viewing angle is a good. This is a common trait among some LCD displays. |
Question: | Will this fit on a Fieldpiece SC |
Answer: | I have not checked it against a reference, but I have done some measurements on my car with this. It seemed to reflect a reasonable value when the battery charger was on, showing charging current. and It showed a big current for the started that was believable. When you first set it, you can press a zero button to zero it out. Then I looked at a really bad solar panel that could only put out about 50 milliamps when shorted, and it was able to show that pretty well. So the bottom line, if you are going to use this for debugging stuff, it seems pretty good. If you are going to measure calorie input to control a chemical reactions in a pharmaceutical lab, I can't say. For me, it is just cool that it can do a DC current in the first place. Has already come in handy as I was able to determine my alternator was not charging my battery quite easily. |
Question: | will it work with fieldpiece ST |
Answer: | Yes, It can read DC starting current with the clamp when set to DC measurement. Reading moves fast but I take video with mobile phone camera and rewind to see the 268A when starting a Nissan Frontier 2.5 L engine. Reasonable current though I cannot check its accuracy yet. I buy meter to monitor DC charging current and confirm non-running car leaking currents under 50mA but need to wait 20 minutes after engine off to let car computer stabilize from initial shutoff which can cab be as high as 0.6A. With this meter, I also find about 10mV leaking voltage on plastic surface between terminals at new battery (due to acid filling spill at manufacturing?) from club store which I need to reduce the Voltage drop to less than 0.1 mV by scribing several grooves on plastics surface around terminal posts. Calibrate to zero by holding Z/F button few seconds before measurement can help read accuracy. I am happy with this meter for the price. Hope you too if do not have time to find a better cheaper on |
Question: | Can this one work with uEi dl389 for testing superheat and subcooling |
Answer: | Step 1.) Run around in circles until u get too dizzy to continue or 15 min has passed, then it will auto shut off. 2.) There is no step two. If you have further questions or need more concrete tips, just continue repeating step 1 until it sinks in. |
