10 best pony bench vise
A pony bench vise is a type of clamping tool used in woodworking, metalworking, and various DIY projects. It's designed to secure workpieces firmly to a workbench or table, allowing for precision and stability during tasks such as cutting, drilling, sawing, or sanding. Here's what you need to know about pony bench vises:
Clamping Function: The primary function of a pony bench vise is to hold workpieces securely in place. It consists of two main jaws – one fixed and one movable. The movable jaw can be adjusted to accommodate different workpiece sizes and shapes.
Types: Pony bench vises come in various types and sizes, including woodworking vises and metalworking vises. Woodworking vises often have wooden jaws to prevent damage to delicate wood surfaces, while metalworking vises typically have hardened steel jaws for durability.
Mounting: These vises are designed to be mounted on the edge of a workbench or table. They can be attached using bolts, screws, or clamps, depending on the vise's design and the specific workbench setup.
Jaw Design: The jaws of a pony bench vise can have different designs to accommodate various tasks. Some have smooth jaws for delicate work, while others have serrated jaws for a firmer grip on materials. Swivel vises have jaws that can rotate for more flexibility in positioning workpieces.
Opening Capacity: The opening capacity of a pony bench vise determines the maximum width of the workpieces it can hold. Bench vises come in a range of sizes, from smaller models with a few inches of opening capacity to larger ones that can hold wider materials.
Materials: Pony bench vises are typically constructed from durable materials such as cast iron or steel to withstand the pressures and forces applied during clamping and working with materials.
Use Cases: These vises are commonly used by woodworkers, metalworkers, machinists, and DIY enthusiasts. They are essential for tasks that require stability and precision, such as sawing, planing, chiseling, drilling, or soldering.
Maintenance: To ensure the longevity of a pony bench vise, it's important to keep it clean, lubricated, and free from debris. Regular maintenance, such as oiling the threads and cleaning the jaws, can help maintain its functionality.
Safety: When using a bench vise, it's crucial to follow safety precautions. Ensure that the workpiece is securely clamped, and be mindful of hand placement to prevent injuries while working.
Pony bench vises are versatile tools that play a crucial role in many workshops and DIY projects. They provide a stable and secure platform for working on various materials and are valued for their durability and reliability. Choosing the right pony bench vise depends on the specific tasks you intend to perform and the materials you'll be working with.

User questions & answers
Question: | How many hold downs for swivel, (1) or |
Answer: | Yes—it does swivel; almost a full rotation. I’d say its stop is at about 300 degrees (left and right), and it locks in place firmly with very little tension required. All around, it’s a great bench vise. The only thing to note is that I found a little resistance in the slide jaw... so you might want to clean and re-oil the slide screw. |
Question: | does this vise swivel 360 degrees, if not what is the swivel limit |
Answer: | 7/16" tight, just use 3/8" bolts and you will be good to go |
Question: | what is the bolt hole size? ~1/4" or smaller |
Answer: | They have 16 international manufacturing locations and there was no way to tell from the packaging the location. I can say it is quality manufactured regardless of location. |
Question: | Is this vise made in the USA |
Answer: | 2-1/2" x 1-3/4" x 1/2". The narrowest part of the tapered section is 3/4". This is a great little level because it gets into everywhere AND it is very accurate. I definitely am glad I purchased it and I would recommend it to a friend. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to use it to put on golf grips on the golf shaft. Will it hold the shaft securely so I can push the grips on it |

Question: | Can I clamp this on my breakfast table |
Answer: | The jaws on mine are 2 7/8" wide. The clamp base opens to just a hair over 2". |
Question: | Is the clamp openig a TRUE 2"? My bench is exactly |
Answer: | That is the primary reason I bought this vice. I used it to build an upper and lower. It works fine for this purpose. |
Question: | Anybody use it to build an AR15 upper |
Answer: | Put a few wraps of masking tape around the end of the handle to make a sliding friction fit, then put a little wood glue on the lip of the inside of the cap and slide it on. Done. Forever. |
