User questions & answers

Question: Did these come relatively sharp out of the box? Also, do they come with some kind of sleeve to put over the sharp edges
Answer: Mine came very sharp, As for the sleeves I keep mine in a heavy duty ziploc bag works great
Question: What are the sizes
Answer: 1/2", 3/4", 1"
Question: Seeking chisels that would be helpful in breaking up rough stones (various hardness) into smaller pieces for jewelry making, would these do the trick
Answer: Depending on the size of your rock there are a number of "cold chisels" available on Amazon. Search "Stanley cold chisel" and several will pop up. These are OK for light use. Be aware you'll need to resharpen these occasionally. There are other chisels available from jewelry supply houses or even gem/geology sites that are more heavy duty. Whenever you work with very hard materials, with a very hard tool and you're whacking things with a hammer please remember to use a full face-shield. Eye protection (safety glasses) will not protect your teeth, lips, neck or face if a shard flies the wrong way...
Question: Muricah
Answer: China, I believe.
Question: Does it good enough to hold sharp edge
Answer: Too many variables to answer your question precisely. When carefully sharpened, honed and polished, these chisels perform well. I have used them to make joints in hard wood. I commonly hone them DURING the joinery process in order to maintain efficient cutting. I do this with all my edge tools, whether chisels, plane blades or knives. Use of a chisel will by necessity, dull the edge. Use of it on hard materials, like hard woods will dull it more rapidly. However, after ensuring that you have established the correct bevel (grinding), sharpened the edge (honing) and polished the edge (polishing with a strop with fine abrasive) you should need only to do minimal honing (in my practice by use of water stones in increasingly fine grit (4000, 8000 and 12000) you will be back to an effective cutting edge in a few minutes. In summary, the steel in these chisels appears to be of more than adequate quality.
