14 best chisel hammers
A chisel hammer, also known as a masonry chisel hammer, is a specialized hand tool commonly used in masonry and construction work. It is designed for the precise and controlled removal of material, particularly stone, brick, or concrete. Here's what you should know about chisel hammers:
Purpose: Chisel hammers are primarily used for cutting, shaping, or removing materials such as stone, concrete, bricks, and masonry. They are often employed in tasks like sculpting, carving, or chiseling out mortar joints.
Design: Chisel hammers typically consist of a handle and a head with two striking surfaces. The striking surfaces are usually flat and rectangular, resembling the face of a typical hammer. One side of the head may have a chisel edge, while the other side is often blunt. The handle is designed for a comfortable grip and control during use.
Chisel Compatibility: Chisel hammers are designed to be used with various types of chisels, including masonry chisels, brick chisels, and stone chisels. The chisel is inserted into the chisel hammer's striking head, allowing the user to strike the chisel accurately and with precision.
Applications: Chisel hammers find applications in various construction and masonry tasks, such as:
Masonry Work: They are used for cutting and shaping bricks and stones, particularly when custom-sized pieces are needed for construction.
Stone Carving: Artists and craftsmen use chisel hammers for detailed stone carving and sculpture work.
Mortar Removal: Chisel hammers can be used to remove old mortar from brickwork or stone joints during renovation or repair projects.
Concrete Work: In concrete construction, they are employed for shaping or cutting concrete blocks and slabs.
Safety: When using a chisel hammer, it's essential to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety goggles and ear protection, as the striking action can produce debris and noise. Additionally, proper hand positioning and control are crucial to prevent injury.
Variations: There are different types and sizes of chisel hammers available to suit specific tasks and preferences. Some may have longer handles for increased leverage, while others have shorter handles for better control in confined spaces.
Maintenance: To ensure the longevity of a chisel hammer, it's important to keep the striking surfaces sharp and in good condition.Regularly sharpening the chisel edge and inspecting the tool for wear and damage is recommended.
Chisel hammers are valuable tools in masonry, construction, and various other applications that require precise material removal or shaping. They are widely used by both professionals and DIY enthusiasts for their effectiveness in achieving accurate results when working with hard materials like stone, brick, and concrete.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can it be used on tie rods and ball joints |
Answer: | Yes, has plenty of power to handle suspension parts. |
Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | This Ingersoll Rand Air Hammer and Chisel Set is made in Taiwan. |
Question: | How do I assemble it out of the box? This is my first air hammer and it doesn't tell me anything in the printed materials |
Answer: | The "tip" if you will is basically a quick (dis)connect attachment for the tips that came with it. Put that on and use the allen screws built into it to tighten it really good. Then you just grab it and slide it down towards the hammer itself, which allows you to insert the tips, then let go and they should be locked in. They won't be locked in tight, because otherwise the hammer isn't able to do it's job and move them, but you should be unable to pull them back out without sliding down the collar again. |
Question: | I've got a 2cfm @ 90 psi porter cable compressor. will that be sufficient to power this tool enough to loosen the fan clutch (3 seconds?)on my truck |
Answer: | Nope it will not. The specs say "average consumption 4cfm." This means at zero load basically holding it in your hand and pulling the trigger it'll use 4cfm at 90psi. Under load like chiseling out a stuck wheel bearing I've measured mine using 15cfm at 90psi. My 80 gallon continuous duty Ingersoll Rand compressor runs it fine but it's 7.5hp at 240v and is rated for 20cfm at 175psi which I regulate down to 90. My Ingersoll Rand gas powered dual tank "contractor" compressor barely runs it at 11cfm at 90psi. The truck bed mounted gas compressor is the only other one that runs it very well. Manufacturers will never tell you what tools use under load and will deceive the uninformed with specs like "average cfm consumption". I'm not knocking Ingersoll though as they have top notch products it's an industry practice / standard. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used for jointing pieces together |
Answer: | I've never used it for that. I'd use something a bit more solid though. |
Question: | Is this mallet offered in left handed model |
Answer: | In my opinion the 12oz. If your carving entails to do precise (fine) detailing, the 18oz will begin to hurt your hand. I find that the the heavier the mallet you have a tendency to hold it tight. With the 12oz your hand will be more relaxed & use it for longer and most importantly better control. It is a well balanced tool. |
Question: | Can this mallet be used for batoning a froe or is there a better option |
Answer: | The plastic part is brown. |
Question: | What size mallet (12 or 18oz) is best for woodcarving 1x2 foot designs using "standard" to "intermediate" tools |
Answer: | I believe nothing is impossible, but I think it would be easier to extend the legs or add padding to the bottom neither of which is a really good solution |

User questions & answers
Question: | Chrome extension wecultivate says only that the seller is in ca. where are these made |
Answer: | Its a rock hammer. Hand held perfect size and price was right That question made no sense |
Question: | is it one piece or is the handle welded to the head |
Answer: | I used a cheap brick hammer in Utah on my vacation and it was ok for a couple of hours and then the rocks started to win as they reshaped the striking surfaces. You need a hardened steel hammer for hard rocks. Drop Forged is meaningless unless it is also hardened steel. Take my advice, spend the money on a true hardened steel hammer. I ordered this one and it was so poorly forged that I returned it right away. It was a long way from "precision" so I'm also guessing the steel is a long way from "hardened". |
Question: | Is this food die shaping raw crystals |
Answer: | Hi,Instruction cards included are to leave the gel in place 20-30 minutes. That's conservative because people tend to have varying tolerance to the whitening gel. The 44% carbamide peroxide whitening gel is the strongest concentration available so it's important to apply a very small amount of whitening gel into dental trays. The gel will expand once activated and provide ample teeth coverage. Any excessive amount applied will allow gel to remain suspended on gums causing the potential for irritation. The instructions go on to state "Extending treatment times may be done depending on tooth sensitivity." The longer the gel is left on the more whitening results. But after about 45 minutes to an hour, the gel has usually dissipated to the point where added whitening benefit is marginal. But in general, it is at the discretion of the user how long to keep gel applied once you are comfortable with treatments, etc. |
Question: | Will it stand up to hobby rockhounding use on granite and basalt |
Answer: | I believe it recommends 45 minute treatments, but not sure of duration of days? Your gums will get very sensitive if overuse of the product so need to follow recommended directions, product definitely works😁 |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the diameter of the shank |
Answer: | One unit to do all three if you. are sharp enough to understand it ,otherwise save your money ,like I didn’t !!, |
Question: | Will these work in a dch133b rotary hammer drill |
Answer: | I tried to use it for Schmetz microtex 8/60 needle and after half an hour or more I have to changed the needle to 10/70 (I was using gutterman 100% polyester) and it was ok |
Question: | Will these work for a Milwaukee better hammer drill |
Answer: | Using this threader certainly doesn't require clearly seeing thing as fine as thread and the thin aluminum wire of the traditional threader. But I have two concerns: (1) I believe this threader is intended for threading sewing machine needles so it wouldn't be of much use for ordinary sewing needles; and (2) if one's eyesight is bad enough, one might have to depend a great deal on the sense of touch to position the thread correctly and the position the threader properly against the sewing machine needle, and that could be tricky for an older person whose manual dexterity and tactile senses are diminished. Something that has a more automated operation would probably be better, e.g., the Infila Auto Needle Threader sold on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/MAGNIFYING-AIDS-Infila-Needle-Threader/dp/B001D1KLHC/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1407271931&sr=8-20&keywords=needle+threader |
Question: | Where are these made |
Answer: | This device does TWO things; a) holds sewing needle so it's easier to change the needle, and b) helps thread the needle after it's in the machine. Therefore, it is a "needle inserted & threader." |

Question: | Is the handle made of white oak or? Additionally, does the handle have the traditional curve to it, the picture seems to make it look straight |
Answer: | Well, it is a tool produced in the US, with some cheaper tools produced in China. Since their biggest market is the US, they state their tool measurements in inches. So this 1/8" chisel is in fact 3.175 mm. I presume they omit the 0.175 mm in order to make the product description a bit more appealing ;) |
Question: | Do you sell the heavier hammers |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | what is the head made of |
Answer: | Yes it does. |
Question: | Does this hammer have a domed face |
Answer: | Hello, it is non toxic and bpa free, the lining is made of PEVA |

Question: | Where is this hammer made? England |
Answer: | Thank you for choosing Irwin. Our goal is to provide the highest quality service. At the cutting edge the chisel should be as square as any other of our chisels. It's possible that at the neck near the handle the bottom starts to round off on the corners but that's normal. |
