I still always put them in as far as they can go because i want the tree to keep the boots's shape, but also to absorb oils and sweat. For these same reasons, I'd use the trees in your 7s. IMHO, even if they are a tad loose, they will add years to your boot's life, help boots keep their shape (maybe even cause the boots to fit you a bit snugger), and absorb moisture and oils.

As i understand it, they were asked to make this tool for military use, based on some specific cable sizes, typically Cat5. With the right size if wire, this is a dream field tool. An unfortunate oversight in the design stage was to limit the size of the cable entry point in a way that met that criteria. Generally I can't get Cat6 cable wedged in to ring strip, it's too large. I've pondered boring the hole slightly larger to make it a Cat6 tool, but haven't. I would not expect it to do well on Cat6 for you, and there is very little room for any kind of adjustment in the proceses
