It works as a regular night light normally and if the power goes off it will switch to AA batteries and keep the night lite on. The article says the batteries have a life of about 250 hours. Since it uses regular AA batteries they might need to be replaced probably once every year or so. I can tell you from experience that they are nice to have in case the power goes off at night. Question:	Can these light bulbs be use in an enclosed fixture
Answer:	The are longer and wider than other LED lamps so unless yours has ample room it won't fit. They wouldnt fit in mine. I ended up putting 2 in the basement where I have exposed light bulbs and they work great for that. The other 2 I have in plugs around the house. They have come in very handy on 2 occasions already.

For example , if you turn on switch 4 hrs per day, you only need two days to charge bulb fully, and on the third day, no need to turn on switch for so long a time, only turn on switch when you go to the bathroom.
