Answer:	If by 'use it' you mean 'make it drinkable', then no; the LifeStraw won't remove the salt that makes sea water unsafe to drink. So, it's probably not the ideal solution for your yacht's emergency lifeboat kit. If you're boating on freshwater rivers or in swamps, however, it should remove all the particulate crud in that water, making it drinkable.There are personal desalination/emergency hydration kits available (HTI's SeaPack, for example, is available on Amazon) that can be used to make sea water drinkable. Try a web or Amazon search for 'personal desalination' and you should be able to find them. You might also want to consider an emergency solar water still to produce purified, desalinated water.
Question:	will the water purification tablets kill protozoa including giardia and cryptosporidium
Answer:	There's actually no longer a shelf life listed. It was initially 3 years, then 5 years, and now Vestergaard of Switzerland (the manufacturer) has removed the notice completely. They were designed for use in African countries where the constant hot sun degrades any plastic, and the shelf life notice was created in case some users left them outside for years in the sun. Turns out it wasn't much of an issue to worry about, so the shelf life notice has been lifted. You can use it, store it, and use it again without problem. Just be sure it's totally dry inside before storing - in fact you can store it uncapped to be sure.

Question:	I am looking to put these in my car in a Northern region where the temperature reaches -50 degrees F will these still work
Answer:	Salt and urea, along with various other substances your body is trying to eliminate, will remain in the filtered urine so it will still taste like pee (whatever that tastes like.) In a desperate survival situation, many people have resorted to drinking their urine. That is ok up to a point. As your dehydration increases, your urine will become increasingly concentrated (dark and even viscous.) It's best to drink urine early in your survival situation since it will be less concentrated and consequently less toxic. That way you are conserving what water you do have longer. Of course, most people will completely exhaust their water supply before they resort to drinking urine. However, drinking highly concentrated urine is probably worse than not drinking it at all. Also, urine is actually sterile inside your bladder but not as it flows through your urethra. Happy drinking!

1 Absolute Micron Filtering

Answer:	Only thing I can find is on the sawyer website is the lifetime warranty so if you read it the will fix/replace the filter for life as long as you dont modify the filter in anyway or open the housing or run juice or drink mixes thru it they will replace it the 100,000 gallon guarantee is to tell you you will have it for life you will lose it beforeit breaks I hope I was of help you can find all the tech data sheets on there website

Answer:	You are right about the 2 ounces being the filter only-that is what Sawyer advertises. The entire unit, inside the packaging is 4.8 ounces. I cannot take it out to weigh the items outside the packaging as I would need to destroy the container to get them out. I am guessing the plastic covering weighs less than an ounce so the entire unit probably weighs about 4 ounces.
Question:	Your literature says " removes contaminants from Fresh Water". What about algae covered ponds and swimming pools?s
Answer:	This filter is advertised as up to 100,000 gallons by Sawyer. When you begin to notice a decrease in flow, I recommend back flushing with potable water using the included syringe. I normally keep an ounce or two of 90% isopropyl alcohol to sanitize the drinking tip and any tubes I may use when setting up different systems. After use and before long term storage (especially if you filtered a lot of biologically questionable water), it is recommended to run a sanitizing solution of bleach/water (1tbsp plain, unscented bleach to 1 gallon water) through the filter then rinse very well with potable water, shake out vigorously and allow to air dry for several days before capping and placing into storage. An unopened filter should have indefinite shelf life unless it is subjected to extreme temperatures, hot or cold.

Answer:	Sawyer's claim for the filter is that it removes 99.99999% of all harmful bacteria and 99.9999% of protozoa. Viruses are not included nor are other impurities mentioned. I have written to Sawyer to ask about tannin and brackish water and will reply again once I receive a return message. Answer:	Fresh water is considered to be any water source but salt water.0.01 Microns will remove just about anything including viruses.It will remove chlorine. Try to put intake hose below the algae using the floater.I would trust this filter in almost any fresh water source, except a pool of nothing but chemicals in it.

Answer:	According to their literature, they filter down to 0.01 microns, which is 10 nanometers (billionth's of a meter). I looked up viruses, and viruses vary in size from 20 to 400 namometers. That means the smallest virus is twice the size of the holes it would have to fit through! In other words, NO viruses should be able to get through, however, it may be possible if it was very small and constricted somehow, or if there was a minor defect in the structure of the filter, so that's probably why they aren't claiming it's totally impossible for a virus to get through.

Answer:	Hello Kenneth, the device is really designed to filter fresh water found in lakes, rivers and streams and water coming from a tap. Thanks to its ultra small micron pore size (0.01 Microns) and carbon and cotton filters, if you attempted to filter another drink it would probably take out the colorant and leave only the h20. I am sure there are many ways to do this....look up camping heating methods... Second way fill it with snow and let it set near a warm spot till the snow or ice melts in the container then press the water thru....

Answer:	Used it on week long trip to Boundary Waters. Rugged, reliable, and drop-proof, albeit a tad heavy if you are one of those "ultralight backpacker types". (If in ultra cold conditions I could imagine the material possibly becoming breakable, but in my experience it would still require quite a smashing to affect the thing). I kept getting looks from everyone while using it as I was able to quickly and painlessly purify and replenish my water in under a minute, while everyone else was using pumps and stuff that had to be unpacked, setup, emptied, repacked, etc. It slowed filtering noticeably though over the week (up to 30s for a purifying cycle) but worked just fine and the water tasted great. I asked Grayl, and they attributed it to the tannins in the water which makes perfect sense. I used a length of paracord to tether it to my person to avoid loss while hiking and canoeing without issue (but I always have an unused backup (therefore freeze proof) just in case; lifestraw, sawyer, or equivalent). Fantastic self-contained water apparatus for travel anywhere. I wouldn't use anything else (given the option). Cheers.

Answer:	It completely depends on how much particulate matter is suspended in the unfiltered water source. Pre filtering dirty water sources (clean rag, T-shirt, etc) helps extend the life of the filter.

Question:	What are the dimensions of the bottle
Answer:	Yes. The pump does not remove chemicals; acids, oil, gasoline, ect. It is best used in waters that have biological agent contamination; bacteria,viruses, amoeba, particulate matter. It cannot be used in salt water.

Answer:	We used the filter pump on a 4 day trip camping and it worked well, but it does take some effort to maintain your water supply as the pumping can take a while and be a little tedious.
Question:	How many gallons of clean water will the bottle give
Answer:	The only contaminants this product will remove are those with a physical size of .2 micron or greater. This is sufficient to remove bacteria and protozoa. It DOES NOT use any sort of active chemistry in the filtration process, therefore it cannot remove or neutralize any dissolved chemicals, viruses or heavy metals present in the water. Therefore, it is exceedingly unlikely that it would be of any use in a bioterrorism attack.

Answer:	Robby, the bottle is about three inches tall & a bit larger around as your little finger. We have found that you can pack this type of bottle just about anywhere because of this size. It takes up minimal space.

Answer:	very little unusual taste on the treated water and i don't think there is enough contaminates for it to be filtered. if you see anything bulk in the water, then by all means go ahead and filter it.

Answer:	2 tablets per quart ready in 35 min. 50 tabs per bottle so one bottle should treat25 quarts remember to strain water first to get the solids out (like rain water from roof)

Answer:	Going by the date on the top bottle (lot number in which 1st 2 characters is month, next 2 is year) the manufacture date was 11/18. As it's now 1/20, my tablets are only good for two more years (if they have a 4 year shelf life). I'm not happy about this. Also, they should list the expiration date (or how to estimate it) on the bottle's labels. I'll buy from another vendor next time.

Question:	How does Calif prop 65 relate to this product
Answer:	This thing is very good. I drank quite a bit from some murky, dirty ponds with all manner of things in them. I know that these work on viruses, though some products offer an extra - Micro-Fine ceramic filter for extra assurance. Charcoal and 'hybrid type' filters with other elements besides just charcoal will remove most of 'heavy metals' from the water. My recollection was that this straw system did a pretty darn good job. If you are looking for one that you are going to use extensively and this is important for you, look into the Katadyn Hiker Pro. Did 14 days with it this summer and it was superb. This straw system lives in my emergency / earthquake kit, but I've used it camping and been happy with it.

Answer:	I can't see a way to replace the internal filter. From my experience with filter straws, once they have reached their lifespan you buy a new one to continue your outdoor adventures.

Answer:	Purifying urine requires a process known as forward osmosis, a process that uses a concentrated salt or sugar solution to draw the water out of urine. This product contains a carbon filter and is designed to remove contaminates from water, not water from contaminates, which is essentially what you would be attempting to do when purifying urine.
