Answer:	I am on city water, we get lots of calcium scale. So I am using a calcium filter right after the meter (to keep scale out of all my pipes) then a carbon under sink filter for taste. I don't care if my boiler or toilet water tastes good, but want better taste out of the sink, dishwasher, ect.

I use a sentiment cartridge ahead of a charcoal cartridge (in 2 separate filter housings) to remove particulates and odors from my water. Works very well.

Question:	How important is a water test before chosing a filter system. And is rust also called iron eating bacteria
Answer:	Rust is not iron eating bacteria. Rust is ferric oxide, which is just iron combined with oxygen. Sulfur smells from iron rich water typically come from your water heater. The bacteria thrive on the metals in sacrificial anode rod in your water heater. Once the bacteria get in the water heater, you will need a powered anode rod and an iron removing system to fix the problem. For anyone on a well with iron, I recommend the following: 1) Get a powered anode rod to replace your sacrificial anode rode in your water heater. Do the chlorine or peroxide disinfection of the heater when installing to kill the existing bacteria. 2) Get this system. You may need to use an iron reducing filter in the third canister instead of a second carbon filter if your water softener isn’t reducing your iron to 0 parts per million, and put this system after the softener using iron reducing salt. 3) replace the filters as recommended without delay. 4) add a UV light sterilizer after these filters. These steps will immediately remove the sulfur and iron smell as the bacteria won’t have iron to eat, or be sustained from the magnesium in the standard anode rod in the water heater. My water went from cloudy brown and smelly to crystal clear perfection after doing this fix.

Question:	Anybody know the maximum flow rate in gallons per minute and/or the pressure drop across this (assuming new filters and 50 psi head pressure
Answer:	Depends on the filters used, pipe size and how it was installed. If you just want to know if you will have enough pressure to shower and use laundry machine or dishwasher. It will be fine as long as you don't use smaller than 3/4 inch supply in and out of this. I'd consider using pex if you want the best flow due to having much less fittings and elbows. I would say at minimum 5- 10 GPM. Hope this helps.

Question:	what is the difference between a 5 micron filter and a 10 micron filter
Answer:	The micron rating indicates the size of particles the filter will catch. A 5 micron filter will catch any particle 5 microns or larger and the 10 micron filter will filter out particles 10 microns or larger. I believe the flow rate is different, so the 5 micron filter may reduce the water pressure compared to a 10 micron filter. I ordered the 10 micron and then found that I really needed the 5 micron filter. The filters were good quality but just let through too many particles so my water still tasted like rust. The 5 micron filter did the trick for me. There was nothing on the old filter I took out that indicated the micron rating and I didn't notice any significant difference in water pressure with the 5 compared to the 10, so I would say that if your water has a lot of rust then get the 5 micron filters. I believe the same company has those.

Answer:	Both, you’ll want a pre filter for well water usually because of the sediment. If you go with just the 5 micron, you will be replacing this filter far too often.
