Answer:	The distance from one leg of the U to the other leg IS 9X16 ths of an inch (or 4.5 x 8ths of an inch) just measured it for you ., Also note the distance from the lock flat part inside the hoop to the start of the hoop is again 9x16ths of inch. On the manufacturers speck it confirms 9x16th of an inch (shown as C: 9/16", grim) but remember if you are NOT fitting it to somthing round, say pipe, tube ect, you can not count the top part of the loop , so thats why the useable space for fitting around a flat item is only 9x16th of an inch, thats why I noted in my review that the lock sticks up when fitted to the case it is recommended for as the handle it goes through is square/flat not tubular.hope that helps, now back to fitting my kitchen sink.

Answer:	Yes.I bought 2 - 12 packs sets (24 locks total) and they are all the same, so 1 key opens all 24 locks - I tested this myself and is what I needed for how I'm using the locks. This way I can open a bunch to stuff and only need to add 1 key to my Keychain. The item name shows "5PLS" which is the key "cut" so if you buy another 12 packs later on, you still only need the 1 original key.

Question:	If I purchased two packages, would all 24 locks be keyed alike
Answer:	I’ll qualify my answer by saying that if the provider has a 24 piece offering, then yes they will all be keyed alike. I bought the 12 piece package and they were exactly what I needed. Good product, great Amazon pricing and delivery.
