| Answer: | There is a smart phone app. It connects via wifi to another small device that contains a small limited function web server. It communicates with the lock itself in the rf band used by garage door openers and similar things. It might use the rf band used for car remotes. At any rate the hand held remotes for the lock also operate in this band. You do not have to have wi-fi to use the lock. You only need wi-fi to control the lock using your smart phone. I believe the lock might work with any smart phone connection to the internet from anywhere. But I haven't tested that. In other words, your smart phone can be connected to the Internet through your data (telephone) data connection. So it should work without wi-fi as well. The remote rf keys use that same band. It is probably the band used for car remotes as well. |
