You should also check if there are any technical malfunctions before installing the closer. For example, check your hinges and make sure that they are oiled and work properly. And check your lock to make sure that it is not stiff so that it prevents the door from closing.

Is your door light enough?

Our SK50 Automatic Door Coser has been engineered to close light doors that weight 30 lb or less, like the interior doors you can find in most houses.

But don’t despair if your door is heavier. If your door weights less than 60 lb, our 2 pack will do the trick (assuming that your door closes properly).

How do I calculate the weight of my door?

You can find several tools to calculate the weight of your door online.

You will need to know the measurements, such as height, width and thickness of the door, and the material.

Once you have this data, finding the weight is a piece of cake!

Prepare your door

Close your door and remove the hinge pin. A hammer and a screwdriver or a parrot wrench will do the trick. We also include a narrow pin that you can use to pop out your existing hinge pin.

Prepare your SK50 Automatic Door Closer

Take your SK50 Automatic Door Closer.

  1. Remove the top cover and the pin sleeve.
  2. On the top you will see a lock pin, remove it and set it aside, you will need it soon!
  3. Spread the legs, so that the tool is ready to be inserted into the hinge

Install the SK50 Automatic Door Closer in the hinge

  1. Insert the SK50 Automatic Door Closer with the teeth of the legs facing the door.
  2. Tight the legs so that the teeth are closed on the hinge.
  3. Take the wrench provided with your pack and insert it in a space on the side of the the nut as close to the door as possible.
  4. Turn it clockwise.
  5. look on the top of the nut and see where there is a hole in which you can fit the safety pin.
  6. Insert the safety pin.

Test for the result

Open the door and see if the spring has enough torsion to close it. If it does, you are all set! If it doesn't:

  1. Take the wrench provided with your pack and insert it in a space on the side of the nut as close to the door as possible.
  2. Remove the safety pin.
  3. Apply more torsion.
  4. Reinsert the safety pin.
  5. Test.

If you are using it on a light door that weights 30lb, it will work. If, however, you are installing it on a heavier door, only one SK50 Automatic Door Closer won't work.

In that case install two.

But, remember, the SK50 Automatic Door Closer hasn't been engineered to close heavy doors.

Answer: I don’t know the lbs by opening force but it is limited by how secure it is to the door or frame. If the door is light and caught by wind then it’s most likely ripping out of the door. Any real force with a heavy door is just going to break it if you push it past it’s limits.

Answer: I can say from experience that this cover does not stay warmer than the standard steering wheel during Minnesota winters. I'm not certain where the person who replied yes lives, but it's probably not anywhere where it actually gets cold outside.
