Question:	read where rain can "fry" this unit, true
Answer:	I have two of these and one of the touchpad deadbolts on different doors. The two like this have been installed about 2 years and the touchpad has been installed about three. One of them (this model) is installed on a shed directly in the elements while the other two have eves above them (very small overhangs). I am currently replacing the one that is directly in the elements while the other two are still functioning perfectly. The overhangs are small but it is the difference between getting soaked EVERY single time it rains and rarely ever getting directly rained on. So I would say, no, rain doesn’t “fry” this product but, yes, DIRECT exposure to the elements will likely shorten the lifespan of the lock. On the other hand, it doesn’t take much to reduce this problem (like a 12” overhang 8-10’ above the door). Also, the “shortened” lifespan of mine was still about two years. It was better than I expected knowing it was completely unsheltered.
Question:	Is the keypad visible in the dark -- from a source other than reflected light
Answer:	No, The Keyboard is not visible in the dark. You must touch a key on the pad before the keyboard lights. We press any key an then press the enter key before we enter a code.
Question:	Do the numbers wear on the commonly used keys (for your PIN entry?) That is, after repeated use, can a person tell which keys are pressed most often
Answer:	...even if one could identify the 4 most commonly used keys, there would still be 256 potential combinations since numbers can be repeated. I have had one of these for six years, and while the numbers have not worn, the buttons which are pushed most frequently are a bit dirtier than the numbers that never get pushed. They are not dirty but there is slight discoloration. However, since my wife and family each have separate codes, 8 out of the 10 buttons get used at some point. All that said, the keys are still clean and the oft used button are only barely discolored.

Answer:	No, This Lock does not have an autolock feature. Not having the feature was one of the purchasing process parameters.

Answer:	Press the "House" button on the lower left hand side of the keypad and it will light up without entering a number.
Question:	Lock/Unlock log? I don't see if this keeps a log of who has used their access code. Does it keep a log
Answer:	The history log is at the bottom of the Schlage Home app page. It records "how" the lock was operated--even if you NEVER add user codes different from the default codes. Using the inside lever causes these history log entries: Locked by Thumbturn (time and date) Unlocked by Thumbturn (time and date) Locking by pushing the lock symbol on the touchscreen causes this entry: Locked by Touchscreen (time and date) When I use the Schalge Home app to lock and unlock, history shows cause these entries: Locked by Bill (time and date) Unlocked by Bill (time and date) IF YOU ADD USER CODES, the default codes (under the battery cover) stop functioning. Since I named a custom code "Primary", using it to unlock causes this history entry: Unlocked by Primary (time and date) see less
Question:	If I have a power outage will a pre programed code still work
Answer:	Yes. It operates on batteries. However, you will not be able to use the app to access the lock during a power outage as your wifi will most likely be off too. Power being out does not effect the normal lock/unlock functionality.
Question:	Does it have auto-lock function
Answer:	It's probably confusing when you get both yes and no answers! I just installed the lock. There are two apps used to control it. Amazon Key and Schlange Home. It's a bit confusing, but you'll want both. Both apps have an Auto Lock setting. You can select 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes or 4 minutes. Navigating the apps is not obvious. For Amazon Key, go to "Settings" in the main menu, select the lock name (Encode if you didn't change it) and look for Auto Relock. In Schlange App, use the settings icon at the bottom of the page (using iOS; not sure about Android); choose "Auto Lock Delay". Hope this helps.

Answer:	There is a set of keys and a key entry you may use if this happens. We hid ours in our hide-a-key so it would be nearby if it ever happened.
Question:	Can take lock be installed on a backyard vinyl gate
Answer:	I have it on an outside door, it's working fine after a year. Not sure about a gate. My door does get weather, but probably not as much as a gate might. Installed in Florida, so rain but not cold.
Question:	How do you re-key this to match existing door locks I have, do I need a locksmith
Answer:	Yes, you will need a locksmith. And, from my experience with having locks keyed to match, things like the type of key blank and the number of tumblers matter. So it is definitely a question for a locksmith who will need to look at any locks involved before he can answer.
Question:	My husband always forgets to lock the door. Is this an automatic lock
Answer:	Yes, it locks automatically and you never have to worry about locking yourself out because you only have to put in the code. If you do not want to have it lock automatically, you can turn a lever on the inside of the lock which sets it to remain unlocked in the event you might have a party outside and want to go in and out continuously.You will never want a key lock again once you have this lock.

Question:	Can the combination be changed if you decide you want a different combination for entry
Answer:	They run true to size. You can get the size he normally wears. My son is 6 an wears a 13.5 i got him a size 1. The shoes has a little room for his feet to grow into it.
Question:	Does this lock need to be installed on a door that already has a deadbolt or can it be used on door to replace a standard handle
Answer:	I dont know.I bought a kids size 5.5m and my wife wears a women's 8.5 and their feet are pretty close in size.I think a women's 8.5 is roughly a 6.5 or 7 in men's(?) I would take a measurement of his foot and match it up to the chart in the pics. The shoes are well made and should fit according to the chart.It worked for us,as I was a bit unsure of the "big kids" sizing. I hope he likes the shoes,my daughter likes them a lot and wants another pair in white and black.

How Do I Know When My Battery Is Low?
