| Answer: | I've done it successfully several times. I've had to mix a little wood glue with the filler each time and make more than one application since there is shrinkage as the mixture drys. Then I've roughed it up a bit with fine sandpaper and applied stain or varnish stain. Takes some care and practice. |

If you do not use it all at once I found it useful to push it down off the sides of the box, and cover it with a bit of plastic very loosely on the top of the mixture, hardly touching. June. |

I recently built a cover for my pool motor and used this to fill many holes and seams where the 2x4's came together (i.e. I did not want any places where water could pool or collect). I used pocket holes to join the 2x4's with paintable plugs and filled in the plugs as well. I applied several coats of aerosol primer, then color coat and lastly an oil-based aerosol spar polyurethane for added protection. I have a similar (smaller) project that has been exposed to the elements for over a year and it looks great (no rot or breakdown) |
