11 best stone sealers
Stone sealers are products used in the field of hardware and home improvement to protect and enhance the appearance of various types of natural stone surfaces, such as granite, marble, limestone, slate, and travertine. These sealers serve several important functions:
Sealing and Protecting: The primary purpose of stone sealers is to create a protective barrier on the surface of natural stone. This barrier helps prevent the penetration of moisture, oils, and other liquids that can cause staining, discoloration, and damage to the stone.
Enhancing Appearance: Stone sealers can also enhance the natural beauty of the stone by deepening its color and adding a subtle shine. This can make the stone appear more vibrant and polished.
Preserving Durability: By preventing the infiltration of moisture and contaminants, stone sealers help maintain the structural integrity of the stone. They can extend the lifespan of the stone and reduce the need for repairs or replacements.
Easy Maintenance: Sealed stone surfaces are generally easier to clean and maintain. Spills and stains are less likely to become permanent, as they remain on the surface rather than soaking into the stone.
Types of Stone Sealers: There are various types of stone sealers available on the market, including penetrating sealers, enhancing sealers, and topical sealers. The choice of sealer depends on the type of stone and the desired effect. Penetrating sealers soak into the stone and provide a natural look, while enhancing sealers add a glossy finish, and topical sealers form a protective layer on the surface.
Application: Applying a stone sealer typically involves cleaning the stone surface thoroughly, allowing it to dry, and then applying the sealer according to the manufacturer's instructions. It's essential to choose a sealer appropriate for the specific type of stone you're working with.
Maintenance: Stone sealers may need to be reapplied periodically, depending on factors such as the type of sealer used, the amount of traffic the surface receives, and the exposure to environmental elements.
In summary, stone sealers are essential products for protecting, enhancing, and maintaining natural stone surfaces in homes and various other settings. They play a crucial role in preserving the appearance and longevity of these valuable materials.

User questions & answers
Question: | I sealed my slate backyard with miracle 511 impregnator sealer last year, 1 coat only. Can I apply this product to darken my slate stone backyard |
Answer: | When you spray water on the slate does it darken rapidly? If the water sits on the surface the Color Enhancer will not work. I would test the Color Enhancer in a small area to see if it darkens the surface. We see it in a sample size for that very reason. |
Question: | Can this be used on expoxy rock |
Answer: | If it is absorbent it will work |
Question: | Can this be used on encaustic cement tiles prior to sealing |
Answer: | This is an enhancer and a sealer so any sealer applied over it will most likely not adhere to it. |
Question: | How much area does it cover |
Answer: | It provided about 2.7 coats for my 100 square feet area. However, most of the shine and enhancer are now gone. A 0 -star product and a waste of money and time. I'd not recommend it for outside use. |

User questions & answers
Question: | After applying, how long do i have to wait before i can cut my tile |
Answer: | 24-48 Hours. |
Question: | fire pit sealers for hi heat |
Answer: | I'd have to say no on that one. It could probably take a little heat but anything close to direct flames, forget it. |
Question: | My intent is to use this at an entry door, I live in Seattle, will this make the stone slick |
Answer: | I don't know for sure, but with the way it looks and feels on my table, I would think that yes, it will make the stone slick. |
Question: | How do you apply it? Brush, spray bottle, pesticide spray hose etc? I'll be using it for about 30 stones approx 7"x |
Answer: | We applied it to a slate floor with a wool pad applicator, made for applying floor finishes. Worked well. We were going to use a paint roller, but since the instructions didn't mention that in its list of ways to apply, I was worried it may create bubbles or cause problems. The instructions do list a pad applicator, paint brush, or low presure sprayer. The consistemcy out of the bottle is about like skim milk, or watered down Elmers glue. Dries within an hour, pleasant smell, easy to work with. Did 3 coats. We are extremely pleased with the results. |

MasonryDefender All Purpose Concrete, Brick & Stone Sealer
This concrete sealer can cover a range from 90-150 sq. ft. per gallon depending on surface porosity. Before applying to your concrete, please make sure that the surface is completely clean and allowed to dry for at least 6 hours. Available in both a 1 gallon and a 2.5 gallon container. Unlike heavy 5 gallon containers, the 2.5 gallon containers are easier to lift, and easy to pour. This product isn't just for concrete. It can be used as an all purpose water repellent and sealer for any bare masonry, concrete, or natural stone surface.
Properly Protects Your Concrete, Brick or Stone Surfaces
Use the MasonryDefender All Purpose Concrete, Brick & Stone Sealer to fully protect your concrete and masonry surface as well as brightening the appearance and enhancing your curb appeal. Protects against cracking and pitting that is caused by moisture that seeps into the concrete over time. It also has a salt guard that protects against de-icing salts and chemicals. After the solution is applied, water will now bead instead of seeping into your driveway causing more damage. Once cured, you'll notice that your driveway, sidewalk or patio will dry much sooner than your neighbors as water isn't able to penetrate into your concrete or masonry surfaces. No longer waste your time power washing your driveway for hours. Stay fully protected for up to 5 years on vertical surfaces.
How To Apply The Concrete, Brick & Stone Sealer
Make sure that the surface temperature is a minimum of 40°F and a maximum of 100°F for three hours following application. Once your surface is free and clear of any dirt and debris, use a low pressure pump-up garden sprayer to spray a thin, even layer. The use of a sprayer will allow you to evenly apply the product. For vertical surfaces, start at the bottom and work your way towards the top, applying a flood coat so that the sealer runs down approximately 6" from where you're spraying. The surface should remain wet for 2-3 minutes before final absorption. Apply a second coat within a few minutes of the first. On horizontal surfaces, avoid puddling or ponding; brush or broom to spread material until the sealer thoroughly penetrates the surface. Surface will be dry in 2-6 hours, depending on temperature and humidity. Allow 24 hours before driving on surface.

User questions & answers
Question: | does it make grout waterproof |
Answer: | While this product will make stone and grout resistant to water and oil stains, it will not make the product waterproof. |
Question: | Does this sealer have silicone in it? I was told to find a silicone-based sealer for my honed granite countertops, but am having a hard time |
Answer: | We are not aware of a good Stone or granite sealer on the market that utilizes silicone as an additive. Bulletproof is a great product for honed granite. |
Question: | My granite countertops are dull and I don't know if they were ever sealed. Will this product give me the glossy granite look I am looking for |
Answer: | I used two products a cleaner http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00065W8DQ/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and this and my tables came out with a nice clean and natural shine. By natural I am not talking reflective of light, a shine similiar to the way a stone looks when you take it out of the water. The two products really made my tables beautiful without making the stone look fake and laminated. If you are truly wanting a gloss, I would agree that you might need a professional to come and seal it with something that will have that high shine. However for the price you could always try this first, if you have granite or stone stuff other areas of the house you can always use this there :) |
Question: | slate |
Answer: | Yes, It says right on the bottle it will protect slate. One word is all we need! |
Question: | Just had Quartzite kitchen countertops installed and sealed with this 15 year sealer. What would be safe to use to clean/maintain the countertops |
Answer: | Marble life granite or marble cleaner, it is safe on all stones, all metal, paint, wood, great for cleaning up grease with great oil emulsifiers, developed by Union Carbide over 20 years ago. available on Amazon |
Question: | is it good for a quartz counter top or is a less expensive sealer just as good |
Answer: | For quartz, I would recommend the Stainproof Plus. This sealer will actually penetrate quartz which is non-pourus while other sealers will not. Most quartz manufacturers advertise that quartz does not need to be sealed but we have seen some quartz products that do in fact stain. Some more than others. |
Question: | How much area does it cover? How many linear feet of grout does it cover |
Answer: | Depending on what you are sealing, the average coverage on a typical seal is 70sqft. Per quart. On grout sealing, again depending on the size and depth of the grout joint, we've gotten about 250 sqft out of 1 quart. |
Question: | Does it work on travertine? I didn't see travertine listed on the stones it's made for |
Answer: | Sorry but my experience is not good. I spent 2 days properly applying 2 coats to travertine tiles around our pool. The protection lasted for about 8 weeks only. Very disappointed. I think Stain Proof is a big waste of money and as others have said the company do not stand behind their products. Never again! |
Product features
Premium Impregnating Sealer is an invisible and breathable sealer that provides premium long lasting protection.
Permanent-bonding impregnating sealer designed for use as premium stain protection. Helps protect against water and oil based stains, efflorescence, picture framing, freeze-thaw damage and salt damage. Treated surfaces are easier to clean and retain breathability, existing color and finish.
For use on natural stone, tiles, pavers, concrete, brick and grout including building facades, floors, walls, countertops, showers, swimming pool surrounds, patios, garages, kitchens and entertaining areas.
STAIN-PROOF SEALING TECHNOLOGY
Staining is the most common damage to porous surfaces such as stone, tile, and pavers. But many other serious problems can also occur if water is allowed to move freely through the material, carrying materials and dirt which can discolor, corrode, and even break up the surface over time.
- Premium water and oil repellence for superior protection. STAIN-PROOF is rated Class 5 when tested in accordance with ISO 10545-14: Determination of Resistance to Stain.
- Unique super-penetrating, permanent bonding technology for long-lasting protection.
- Protects against efflorescence, freeze-thaw and salt spalling damage.
- Retains natural surface color and finish. Treated surfaces are easier to clean and dry quickly, even after heavy rain.
- Super breathable formula: water vapor escapes freely, preventing harmful moisture buildup inside the treated material.
- Stands up to alkaline cleaners and pressure washing.
THE DEEPEST PROTECTION BARRIER
STAIN-PROOF impregnating sealers are technologically different from commonly available silicone, Teflon, flourapolymer and siloxane impregnators. STAIN-PROOF molecules penetrate deeper into porous materials and bond permanently inside the pores without blocking them. This creates a permanent water and oil-repelling barrier deep enough to provide stain protection plus keeps damaging water and water borne salts away from the surfaces.
TECHNOLOGY THAT SETS US APART
STAIN-PROOF sealers are formulated using a unique sealing technology - our sealer molecules are approximately 400+ times smaller than other impregnators and penetrate much further into the pores to form a deeper water and oil repellent barrier, providing optimum protection to surfaces such as natural stone, bricks, pavers, tiles, engineering concrete and grout.
STAIN-PROOF impregnating sealers stand up to cleaning chemicals, traffic, sunlight, and even commercial cleaning techniques such as high-pressure hosing.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used on smooth shiny granite countertops? In the product info they only recommend it for honed or textured surfaces, not polished surfaces |
Answer: | I used it on stone slate floors, a very porous surface, so I am not sure. It says "porous honed or textured granite." That is not shiny polished surfaces. The stuff has to soak in. I like it on slate because the slate looks natural without darkening it. I suggest contacting the manufacturer. There is a phone number on the back of the container 1-888-786-6343. The factory should be able to point you to the right product. I have shiny granite in my master bath. I used a sealer/polish once but after that a rag damp with water is all I need to wipe it down. My brother just uses a damp rag as well for his shiny granite. I do not know why people think granite is high maintenance. I think they like to sell a lot of sealer. |
Question: | The suggestion is to apply more than 1 coat. Can i apply the heavy duty kind first followed by the bulletproof to give it a little shine? Thank you |
Answer: | Hello Mauli, You can apply the heavy duty stone sealer followed by the bulletproof sealer from Stonetech. These 2 sealers, are called impregnating sealers. This means that these sealer fill the pours of the stone, these sealers will not affect the look of the stone. So unfortunately these sealer will not give the stone any shine at all. |
Question: | Does this have a gloss or matte finish? Is this non color enhancing |
Answer: | Gloss or matte finish? I would say neither. Once it is dry, the stuff is absolutely invisible. I put two coats on my new stone patio and anticipated some noticeable change. Nothing. You'll know it is there, however, when something capable of staining is eventually spilled. A little soap and water and the problem is solved. I saved the empty containers and marked them clearly with the application date. That way, I remember to order more every other year because the sealer is invisible and gives no hint that it is worn or fadding. |
Question: | Can I keep the unused sealant for reuse a year later |
Answer: | Yes. If stored at room temperature, has a shelf life of 2 years. Our experience shows us even longer. |
Product description
H2Seal is a breakthrough, modified silicate water repellent technology for natural stone, tile, grout, masonry and concrete. It penetrates the applied surface deeply, but in addition, it creates a state-of-the-art nano based cross-linking network forming a virtually impervious barrier to water and dissolved materials in water providing long lasting protection without altering the natural appearance of the surface.
Unlike conventional siloxane and silicate water repellents, H2Seal's chemical formulation contains, new, one-of-kind technology that imparts incredibly effective protection on a wide range of natural and man-made stone, tile, grout, masonry and concrete.
The technology developed for H2Seal H2100 Stone Sealer provides water repellent protection superior to silane and siloxane emulsions, silicates, petroleum distillates and other common water repellents.
H2Seal's advanced technology produces application friendly properties, including ease of application and rapid curing for quick usability and service. Treated surfaces strongly discourage the growth of discoloring mold and mildew.
H2Seal is designed for use as a sealer/water repellent on patios, decks, walkways, floors, showers, decorative landscape stone, around swimming pools, spas and waterfalls; the product will prevent the penetration of water in to structurally sound, crack-free, treated surfaces. H2100 will inhibit the penetration of salts, and forms a revolutionary water resistant seamless surface matrix.

User questions & answers
Question: | Would this be a good application for outdoor granite |
Answer: | Yes. When applying H2Seal to a honed and polished granite surface allow the sealer 5-10 minutes to absorb into the granite before removing excess with terry or microfiber cloth. Since most granite has a dense surface, only a small amount of H2Seal is needed to penetrate and seal. |
Question: | For outdoor patio with Travertine pavers. Is silicate sealant superior to silane/siloxane sealants |
Answer: | Thank you for your question. If the travertine is honed or polished, and most pavers are, the best sealer is going to be one that uses a small molecule version silicon. In general, siloxanes will be larger molecules, silanes, siliconates and silicates can be/generally are, smaller. Siloxanes will still work, but may take longer to penetrate and can darken the surface. H2100 uses siliconates that proven to be very effective on denser surfaces like travertine. Question: | Can I use this after I sand bathroom tile thats in the shower |
Answer: | Thank you for your inquiry. Yes you can. Apply one coat, depending on the density of the tile, it will fully absorb or only partially absorb. If it only partially absorbs wipe off any excess. If it full absorbs, 5-10 minutes, apply a second coat. Wipe off any H2100 that does not absorb. Bruce Erickson, Serveon Sealants LLC |
Question: | How is this product actually applied (roller, spray, etc |
Answer: | The product is easiest applied by using an inexpensive, pump-up sprayer, the type you can buy at a hardware stone. It can also be applied with a brush or a roller. HS100 is forgiving in that you can have minor puddling without needing to worry about drying and leaving a residue. behind. Bruce Erickson |
