12 best bond deck sealers
Bond deck sealers are products designed to protect and preserve the appearance and structural integrity of outdoor decks. Decks are exposed to various environmental elements, including rain, sunlight, and temperature fluctuations, which can lead to wear and deterioration over time. Bond deck sealers serve as a protective barrier, enhancing the longevity and aesthetic appeal of decks. Here's what you need to know about them:
Purpose: Bond deck sealers are used to seal and protect outdoor wooden or composite decks. They create a waterproof barrier that helps prevent moisture penetration, UV damage, and other forms of deterioration.
Types: There are different types of Bond deck sealers available, including clear sealers, semi-transparent sealers, and solid-color sealers. Each type offers varying levels of protection and appearance enhancement.
Waterproofing: One of the primary functions of Bond deck sealers is to provide waterproofing. This helps prevent water from seeping into the wood, which can lead to rot, warping, and decay.
UV Protection: Many Bond deck sealers contain UV inhibitors that shield the wood from the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) rays. UV protection prevents fading and discoloration of the deck's surface.
Enhanced Durability: Deck sealers also enhance the overall durability of the deck by reducing the impact of foot traffic, weathering, and general wear and tear.
Aesthetic Enhancement: Depending on the type of Bond deck sealer used, it can enhance the appearance of the deck by adding a subtle sheen, altering the wood's color, or maintaining a natural wood look.
Ease of Application: Bond deck sealers are typically easy to apply using a brush, roller, or sprayer. Some products are formulated for quick-drying, making the application process more efficient.
Maintenance: Reapplication of Bond deck sealer is typically required every 1-3 years, depending on the product and environmental conditions. Regular maintenance helps ensure the continued protection and appearance of the deck.
Compatibility: Bond deck sealers are suitable for various wood types, including cedar, redwood, pine, and pressure-treated lumber. They may also be used on composite decking materials.
Preparation: Proper surface preparation is crucial before applying a Bond deck sealer. This often involves cleaning the deck to remove dirt, mildew, and any old sealer or finish. Some products may require sanding or stripping the old finish.
Environmental Considerations: Some Bond deck sealers are formulated to be more environmentally friendly, with low volatile organic compound (VOC) content. This is a consideration for those who prioritize eco-friendly products.
In summary, Bond deck sealers are essential products for protecting and maintaining outdoor wooden or composite decks. They offer waterproofing, UV protection, and enhanced durability, while also contributing to the deck's overall appearance.Regular application and maintenance of deck sealers can help extend the life of your deck and keep it looking its best for years to come.

Answer: | Pounds I don't know, but it is a one gallon container. |

Answer: | I would say oil based. Does not clean up with water. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many squre feet does one gallon cover |
Answer: | The stain is really good. I used in about 9 yrs ago so I don't remember if it had a strong odor or a residual odor. I used it on an outdoor deck however. I'm hoping to restain in a couple of weeks, so if you ask again later I may have a better answer for you. |
Question: | What size container is this? 4lbs or 9 lbs |
Answer: | I would say a little on the orange side. It looks good, though. |
Question: | is this oil based or water based |
Answer: | I am not sure I understand your question. You can purchase, from my experience, quarts - which would be about right for an $88 gallon container when broken down. This is great stuff and I can not speak highly enough about it. Only think I would advise up front is to go with a color that has more tint than the Natural. I have a 3,200+ sf deck that was originally finished in the Natural. When I had to reapply 8 years later I moved to the Cedar finish and am happy with the amount of fade the past couple of years. Will more than likely stay with the Cedar when it needs done six years from now. Hope that helps you out a bit! |
Question: | Can it be sprayed on |
Answer: | Did you shake it before you started ? I have not experienced your problem . I brush it on ,leave it in the sun, brush out all wet spots the next day, give it more sun until it can be worked with. Good luck. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are there any cleaners (bleach, vinegar, tsp etc.) that should not be used to clean my basement concrete floor with this applied |
Answer: | I personally wouldn't try it. The top is kind of pronged and rounded and my string lights slide off fairly easy. I couldn't hook my lighted wreath with it. I would be concerned of that 20 lbs landing on you. Maybe see if there is something with longer prongs on end to hook it on to hoist it. |
Question: | What cleaners may be used 3 years after applying |
Answer: | I don’t think it would work for that application as there is no hook or clip which can be attached to the gutter clip |
Question: | What are the advantages of using this product over RadonSeal Plus |
Answer: | I have not used it for that purpose but I would say yesas its very long and sturdy. With multiple ways of you using it due to the end design I would say yes |
Question: | How long does this take to dry? I want to start framing walls with pressure treated lumber along the floor after putting this down |
Answer: | Hi John, If the Unger pole has a US Standard Threaded tip, 3/4" Acme Threaded tip, or a Universal Threaded tip, our attachments will fit onto it. Hope this helps! Best, Johnny from Eversprout |

User questions & answers
Question: | First would it hold back standing water, say for a 24hr period? Second how much would you recommend for 400 square feet of brick |
Answer: | You can use any type of cleaner (we would not recommend bleach) but make sure to thoroughly wash out the chemicals with clean water before application. PREP: Surfaces must be clean, bare, and porous. Remove excessive dust and loose particles. Remove paints, sealers, curing compounds, adhesives, oil, grease, organic growth, efflorescence and other contaminants that could interfere with sealer penetration. Surfaces must be porous enough to readily absorb the sealer. Hard-troweled surfaces require chemical etching or mechanical abrasion to increase porosity. |
Question: | Can this be used partially painted interior brick walls to deal with and seal old paint that may potentially contain lead |
Answer: | You can use any commercially available cleaner on treated surfaces. |
Question: | Can this product be used in cold climates? I read that sealers on brick in cold climates can trap the water and cause the brick to flake |
Answer: | Ion-Bond® Armor's small molecules able it to penetrate through tighter concrete finishes, fiber-reinforced concrete, and structural concrete (+5,000 psi) more reliably than RadonSeal®. Ion-Bond® is used for sealing thin concrete (Ion-Bond® is applied to concrete first sealed with RadonSeal® to provide the tightest possible seal against water vapor and gases. The combination of the two sealers is recommended for sealing porous cinder blocks (water-permeable), sandstone, and concrete blocks with a history of seepage and heavy efflorescence. Best used on rubble foundation walls in basements. Particularly useful for sealing concrete before installing moisture sensitive flooring. Seals closer to the surface allowing it to shed surface water better. |
Question: | Will it work for a brick patio that we are enclosing for an Arizona room or porch |
Answer: | Similar to how quickly saturating the surface with water would take to completely dry on the surface (2-4 hours depending upon humidity/temps). |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long before it can be driven over when being used for driveway crack repair |
Answer: | Although it has been successfully used for sealing small fish ponds and bird baths (due to few alternatives) this product was not designed for, nor is it recommend, to be used for surfaces under constant water. A 2.5-gallon quantity should safely cover 400 sq. ft. |
Question: | I see this should be used for horizontal cracks, but will it work for vertical? I have a small 6" vertical foundation crack inside my garage |
Answer: | LastiSeal Brick & Concrete Sealer should only be applied to a bare and porous substrate. It is an impregnating sealer, that works by being absorbed by a porous surface. Paint will simply repel the sealer. |
Question: | How long does this have to dry before painting a primer over it |
Answer: | I am using it in Wilmington, NC so can not give any feedback of using it in cold weather. It is doing exactly what I wanted it to do though |
Question: | Does this penetrate the crack to form a full slab depth repair, or just a surface repair |
Answer: | LastiSeal will seal any porous masonry. Bricks, blocks, sandstone, limestone....if its porous, LastiSeal is an excellent choice. |

One TIME Stain Quart Size, It's not just a Stain.....It's an Investment! Preservative, Protector & Stain all in One Fast & Easy Application Re-apply every 7 years. What to expect from One TIME, “Preservative, Protector & Stain all in One” ONE COAT APPLICATION – spread as far as it can go - more is not better. Estimated coverage of One TIME for newer wood (smooth wood with minimal cracks and crevices) is up to 300 sq. ft. per gallon. For older wood, coverage is estimated at up to 250 sq. ft. per gallon. Your wood is better protected from the elements of weather because One TIME is made up of 100% solids that cure into the wood and will not wash away like other products. One TIME has no water, no wax, no silicone, no oil and no VOC’s. One TIME cannot be mixed with other products. If you have previously applied another product on your wood, you need to completely and successfully remove it before applying One TIME. Failing to do so may inhibit the penetration and curing of One TIME, causing your wood to become tacky. Always test a small area before completion of project. You can remove any “feathered” areas in your wood with a light sanding after cleaning the wood and before applying One TIME. Mill glaze is present on NEW smooth cedar and restricts One TIME from working properly. Redwood needs to be weathered for 6 months before applying One TIME. *it is recommended to use a darker color on Cedar, Redwood and Exotic woods. NEW PRESSURE TREATED WOOD can have One TIME applied 2-4 weeks after installation. After applying One TIME, the wood may emit a whitish or yellowish substance usually from the knot areas. This is normal. Knots may be much lighter than the rest of the wood. One TIME does not cause overlap marks, run marks or drip marks. One TIME does not peel, flake, crack or chip. All exterior surfaces eventually get dirty. You may want to periodically clean your One TIME sealed wood with any mild cleaner or detergent.
- Rejuvenates the color of any wood surface
- Will not overlap, crack, flake or chip
- Ideal for DIYers and Professionals
- 7 Year Guarantee

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the warranty on this |
Answer: | I don't believe there is any warranty. We applied it two years ago and the covered areas still look good. The section in direct Sun...needs to have it applied again. |
Question: | How long can the product be stored once the container is opened |
Answer: | We actually used some that we had stored in our garage that was left over from the last time we stained our siding and that was in the summer of 2012, 6 yrs ago. When we removed the lid, it looked like it had become a gel but my husband used a drill with a paint mixer/stirrer tool and it became liquefied again. We applied it to the siding without incident and the color matched the new 5 gallon containers we bought this summer . |
Question: | I have 275 ft of fence plus a gate- what's the coverage with using a sprayer |
Answer: | I’m in the process of staining my fence (I am using a different brand) with a semi-transparent stain. I have 187’ of fence at 5’ high including 2 gates. Applied with a roller and brush, I’m going to need around 13 gallons. My recommendation is rent a sprayer from Home Depot. You’ll save time and money as you’ll use less product and it will go much much faster. |
Question: | we have a heavy dining set and i am worried about scratches after i stain, how does it hold up to heavy chairs moving back and forth |
Answer: | I have a deck/patio furniture set, including a cast iron umbrella base. Lots of use over the last year with no evidence of scratches in the deck. The stain penetrates the wood rather than building a barrier so dragging stuff across the boards won't take it off provided the wood is properly prepared. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work where i have a slow drip leaking from the joint of pvc pipe to my septic inlet |
Answer: | Overkill. 3m5200 is a permanent adhesive, but won't stick well if the surface is wet. If it does stick it won't come off. I'd look into some asphalt patching compound |
Question: | Will this stick to epdm rubber roof or dicor rv tape on an rv |
Answer: | It should, provided you did not use a silicon based sealer on the RV roof. I have used it on my RV roof, with good results. This is the best caulk I have ever used. |
Question: | If there is excess adhesive, can it be sanded once fully cured? 2.Once opened will the adhesive remaining in the tube last for a few days |
Answer: | Yes, but in my judgment, it does not sand well. To cut off excess, an X-Acto knife works better for me. It has lasted a few days for me IF it is very carefully sealed up. |
Question: | Is it paintable |
Answer: | Yes it is paintable |

User questions & answers
Question: | How much out gassing does this do |
Answer: | While it is certainly likes the sun for 'curing', as long as you have natural heat you will be ok. Part of our 3,700 sf deck is in direct sunlight while a small (maybe 10%) is shaded part of the day. We are in Northern West Virginia and treated 7 years ago this month with the Natural color. While it still beads water, the 'color' has finally faded enough that I am about to order the next application in Red Cedar. The reason for the color change is that the higher the pigment, the less the fade. I am one happy customer! |
Question: | Bond distributing one time 00300 stain/sealer redwood - is the actual color more orangey, brownish, or reddish |
Answer: | I used this on my new deck 7 years ago, much of the deck is in the shade. The product has been great and only now am I considering a reapplication. It did take a while to dry, but I did it whe it was hot out, and it dried in time for a community house tour in a week, 80 people walked on it and it was fine. It still looks great, no peeling just a little fading. I would recommend it to any one. Who wants to retreat every two years! This really did last 7. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this have a really strong smell on application |
Answer: | I did not notice any harsh smell. I was outside. |
Question: | If you are sealing around outside windows, do you need to tape off the windows? Does this harm windows or metal painted trim around windows |
Answer: | I used it on brick and stone and actually coated a metal mailbox with no issues. I would probably tape off the glass. |
Question: | does this darken the color of the stone? does the stone look different at all after it dries- including sheen |
Answer: | I saw no change in color at all. |
Question: | Does this product need to be diluted with any other thing |
Answer: | No this product is ready to use and does not need to be diluted. |

MasonryDefender All Purpose Concrete, Brick & Stone Sealer
This concrete sealer can cover a range from 90-150 sq. ft. per gallon depending on surface porosity. Before applying to your concrete, please make sure that the surface is completely clean and allowed to dry for at least 6 hours. Available in both a 1 gallon and a 2.5 gallon container. Unlike heavy 5 gallon containers, the 2.5 gallon containers are easier to lift, and easy to pour. This product isn't just for concrete. It can be used as an all purpose water repellent and sealer for any bare masonry, concrete, or natural stone surface.
Properly Protects Your Concrete, Brick or Stone Surfaces
Use the MasonryDefender All Purpose Concrete, Brick & Stone Sealer to fully protect your concrete and masonry surface as well as brightening the appearance and enhancing your curb appeal. Protects against cracking and pitting that is caused by moisture that seeps into the concrete over time. It also has a salt guard that protects against de-icing salts and chemicals. After the solution is applied, water will now bead instead of seeping into your driveway causing more damage. Once cured, you'll notice that your driveway, sidewalk or patio will dry much sooner than your neighbors as water isn't able to penetrate into your concrete or masonry surfaces. No longer waste your time power washing your driveway for hours. Stay fully protected for up to 5 years on vertical surfaces.
How To Apply The Concrete, Brick & Stone Sealer
Make sure that the surface temperature is a minimum of 40°F and a maximum of 100°F for three hours following application. Once your surface is free and clear of any dirt and debris, use a low pressure pump-up garden sprayer to spray a thin, even layer. The use of a sprayer will allow you to evenly apply the product. For vertical surfaces, start at the bottom and work your way towards the top, applying a flood coat so that the sealer runs down approximately 6" from where you're spraying. The surface should remain wet for 2-3 minutes before final absorption. Apply a second coat within a few minutes of the first. On horizontal surfaces, avoid puddling or ponding; brush or broom to spread material until the sealer thoroughly penetrates the surface. Surface will be dry in 2-6 hours, depending on temperature and humidity. Allow 24 hours before driving on surface.
