Empowers You to Save Hundreds on Electric Bills
Electricity bills are rising. Now you can cut down on costs and find out what appliances are actually worth keeping plugged in. Simply connect these appliances to the Kill A Watt, and it will assess how efficient they really are. The large LCD display counts consumption by the kilowatt-hour, the same as your local utility. You can calculate your electrical expenses by the day, week, month, even an entire year. Also check the quality of your power by monitoring voltage, line frequency, and power factor. Now you will know if it is time for a new refrigerator or if that old air conditioner is still saving you money. Kill A Watt can help you reduce your power bill and will help find power-wasting appliances so you are able to decide whether it is worth keeping them plugged in. For standard 115 VAC appliances only, 15 amps maximum, 125 VAC maximum.Find Out How Much Electricity You're Using
The U.S Department of Energy reports that 20% of our electric bills come from items that are left plugged in when they are not in use, or items that are in standby mode. With the Kill A Watt P4400 we can monitor the energy eaters in our homes and cut down our electric bills at the same time. Plug whatever item you want into the device and it will tell you the efficiency of that item by displaying the kilowatt per hour. This device will help you determine which items are costing you the most to run. The Kill A Watt also calculates voltage, line frequency, current, and power factor. You can calculate your electric bill before you even receive it from the electric company.Test The Quality of Your Home's Power
But measuring appliance consumption is just the tip of the iceberg. Because it can monitor voltage (Volt) and line frequency it can also test if an outlet is working, or evaluate the quality of the electrical power provided by your utility company. It can detect voltage drops around the house, help to predict brownout conditions or to make sure a new home's outlets are in working condition before escrow closes.

User questions & answers
Question: | Hi, is this unit able to capture peak current draw? I want to see if my audio amplifier ever gets close to tripping my breaker |
Answer: | This will only plug into a 120 VAC outlet. The standard 120 VAC outlet in almost all homes is only rated 15A continuous duty, but can take more for a second like when a room air conditioner compressor starts up. This is probably following those same rules. If the wiring is 12 gauge or thicker, it can be hooked to a 20 amp breaker even though all of the outlets in the average house are rated 15A, at least in most states. The reality of the matter is that wiring and outlets can always take somewhat more than the ratings and everything is oversized for safety. But is is always considered unsafe to plug in any device that uses more than 15 amps into a typical house outlet. An exception is commercial outlets that fit both home devices and heavier duty commercial device plugs and those outlets are usually rated at 20 amp. Those outlets are more common in businesses and uncommon in homes. An air conditioner or commercial refrigerator that uses more than about 10 continuous amps will normally be a 240 volt appliance and require different type of outlet designed for 240 volts, same is true of typical electric clothes dryer and this device would not adapt to those. |
Question: | Will this work with two prong (non-grounded) outlets |
Answer: | This device, the P4400, will reset all of its timed measurement values to zero if power is lost or the device is unplugged. The P4460 has "non volatile" memory, using a battery to provide the necessary voltage to power the (S)RAM memory, which means that it will not lose the data if power to the 4460 is lost. The P4460 also will let you input the cost per KWH from your provider to calculate the cost to operate the appliance over a week, month and year (assuming that your use is the same during the extrapolated period as it was during the measurement period). For me the data retention feature is well worth the extra $4 since I want to keep track of the energy used by a window air conditioner which will vary by the outdoor temperature, the sun hitting the building, the humidity, etc. |
Question: | most of my outlets are 20 amps or more, the killawatt is only 15 amps does that make a difference in calculations, the garage is 40 amp |
Answer: | Hello, the correct wire is typically referred to as 10/3 with ground, but yes 10/4 would be the correct amount of wires. Reliance Controls videos have the 10/3 with ground used in install videos. Any other video done by others may not have the correct wire. |
Question: | what is the difference between the p4400 and the p |
Answer: | Hello and thanks for your question! The PB30 inlet box is just a plug for a generator cord in an outdoor rated enclosure. It is used to connect a generator cord and then bring the wiring into a building to connect to what should be a transfer switch or device. The wiring from the PB30 brought inside doesn’t have to connect to a transfer switch for the power to be utilized, but every state law requires a transfer device to connect generator power to. Hope this helps! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this model 220v (Non US) AC compatible? If not, which model is? Thanks in advance |
Answer: | At the moment, we don't have an API or developer program. That being said, we see integrations are an important part of the future of Sense and will continue to look into additional ways to connect with other devices. In the meantime, check out our IFTT integration! |
Question: | does this work on 220v 60hz house outlet |
Answer: | Unfortunately, Sense does not have an option for an ethernet port, our monitors must have a consistent WiFi connection. |
Question: | Can it be set for a period of time (such as 24 hours) and record usage only then |
Answer: | Using IFTT, you can log device turning on (or off) in a Google spreadsheet; see https://ifttt.com/sense_energy_monitor --- that said, if Google goes belly up and closes, same cloud-based service problem exists. |
Question: | To how many decimal places does this one display for Watts |
Answer: | For those of you familiar with Python or Docker, the open-source Vuegraf project allows you to pull all metrics from the vue service and store them into your own InfluxDB and build graphs in Grafana. You can set alarms to trigger when certain thresholds are breached. Search the Internet for vuegraf and it should be the first result. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the app on my wife ios phone and my android phone be simultaneously logged in to the app |
Answer: | Yes it will that is what I use mine for. It gives me an AC reading right between the Grid Ready inverter and the power grid. |
Question: | Does the app function when outside the home? Ie. Will I be able to see real-time data for my home while away at work |
Answer: | The P4400-vp can be shipped on international orders. Great Britain and France, even the Island of St. Martin Dutch side (120VAC) and St. Maartin French side (240VAC). have significantly different power from the US. The French and Great Britain use power 240VAC "Phase/ or live leg to ground" instead of the US "live leg to live leg" for 240VAC. Even though this unit is not usable for 240volt it is cleared for international use since the unit tests on phase to ground 120VAC and this is what we use in the US. It would appear that this has to do with the way the ground (round plug) and neutral are utilized in the device. |
Question: | does it sum up power usage for a period of time, like every month |
Answer: | What I understand of resolution on this context is: the increment steps of the measure. A 10 resolution will measure either 0, 10, 20, 30 .... but never a number in between. |
Question: | Is it truly worth 300 bucks |
Answer: | Not really. If you are sure which range is best you should start high and work your way down until you get the accuracy you need. |

User questions & answers
Question: | With the solar system, will Sense pick up and track the electricity that goes back to the public grid |
Answer: | Yes, it can detect through sheetrock, glass. As far as wood, it depends on the thickness. |
Question: | is there an API |
Answer: | I have not used it yet but the board is labeled but only slightly. If you look at the edge of the card where the harness in the picture on this product description, there is a + on the bottom pin and an O (IO) on the top pin. The White plastic harness covers the lettering up a bit. The center pin would be the gnd. This is a guess. |
Question: | Does it have an ethernet port, or is it just wifi |
Answer: | These sensors are actually omnidirectional. If anything, they are often a little too sensitive and respond to noise in the power supply. |
Question: | Since this is a cloud based service, what happens if, heaven forbid, the company goes belly up and closes? Since processing isn't in a local app |
Answer: | Below are some links I came across that helped me het the sensor working. https://github.com/jdesbonnet/RCWL-0516/issues/2 https://tech.scargill.net/microwave-for-the-weekend/ https://github.com/espressif/arduino-esp32/issues/855 |

User questions & answers
Question: | How can i ask for a zw095 to support eu frequencies and 230v? does this product support it or how can i order one |
Answer: | Yes, this records the total power used by the device whether it is on or off or any mix. You just need to go to the screen kwh used. record the beginning # and at the end of time period (say 24 hours) record the end #. that is how many kwh it used. I used several of these for months to record the A/C use in our shared apt and paid the landlord for the a/c used so they don't complain about my electricity used. great device. now however, my apt has a 20a a/c wall unit. while you could get converter to regular 3 prong, not sure if this unit will go to 20 amps.Others who said no are simply ignorant of this devices menu. It ALSo shows, when on watts menu, the watts used when a device is running, or is off. so you can see how much your a/c or toaster oven or giant screen tv uses when on, or off.It also keeps the power kilowatt hours used even if unplugged or power goes out in its internal memory. so you can simply record the kilowatt hours at the begin of a month, then at the end of the month, subtract and multiply by your cost of electricity for the total $ / month the device uses. The dork who was our landlord at the time thought his electric water heater for tea was less expensive to use than nuking a cup of water for a minute to heat it up in the microwave. popped this device on it and they were almost identical in total power used to heat a cup of water. The same idiot who was complaining about this left his rear projection tv on when he wasn't around, and they use alot more electricity than today's flat panel screens. If you want to record the power usage of some device over time, you'll want to plug this device into a short extension cord. if you plug it directly into the wall then you have to lie down on the floor to read the kilowatt readings. I just put the readings into a spreadsheet when I was recording monthly electricity usage. |
Question: | If installed inside the breaker panel, how is it possible for the device's Zwave RF signals to pass though the panel's solid metal construction |
Answer: | This EZ model does NOT display how many Watts you device is pulling... It displays how may kwh have been used thus far, to the 1/10th decimal place. So, when you first plug something in is shows ZERO, since not enough time has passed to show kwh used yet. This is a HUGE feature left off this device. For me, I want to plug something in to a meter like this and be able to instantly see how many Watts the device uses, and this EZ meter version does not do that. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I leave this plugged into an appliance for 2 to 3 days to get an overall reading of what the applicance is using |
Answer: | What we got was for 110 volt only... I don't know if they have anything for 220. |
Question: | Hello is suitable for honda eu20i output 220v ?. thank you |
Answer: | There are a lot of differences of the THP103 and Kill-A-Watt. The THP103 has a cord for hard to reach places, plugs in and gives an instant readout in amps or watts. The Kill-A-Watt is designed to remain plugged into a specific appliance to keep track of how much power is being used over a time period to relate to understanding how one might be charged for power consumption. The THP103 is a quick readout to help plan a generator setup, but with knowing the watts and how often it’s on per day someone calculates the expenses involved over any period of time. Let us know if you find yourself with any additional questions. |
Question: | Will this work on 220 volts |
Answer: | I bought this just to get the meters to monitor the load. I expect the case itself is only adding $15-20 more. Maybe you can call Reliance and see if they sell parts but I bet they would be more than just buying the unit on Amazon.... |
Question: | What's the difference in function between this and the Kill-A-Watt |
Answer: | NO! - Yeah! The pictures tripped me up also - I ordered the wrong one at first. The MB75 measures up to 3750 watts / per phase (2 meters) which is perfect for me and my 10,000 watt (peak) generator. The MB125 meters are scaled for for a larger generator, don't remember the scale, but it was an overkill for me. I would have thought someone would have corrected the obvious picture error by now? Anyway - the meter is great! It gives me piece of mind that I am not overloading the generator. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the volt meter itself ever need recharging |
Answer: | You have to replace the battery at some point!Maybe soon if you leave it on! |
Question: | could this measure down to say 0.1 ohms |
Answer: | If you really need to measure extremely low resistances accurately, you can get a power supply that you can set for a constant current of 1A, and put it through your test load. Then put your meter in the DC millivolt range and read across the load. It will display the resistance in millohms, so a reading of 100 mV would correspond to 0.1 ohms. Few people need to measure such small resistance values, but some specialized things like coils and inductors have test specifications down in those ranges. |
Question: | Help. i have a short or bad ground somewhere in my automobile, battery and alt new - i think wires going to the pcm. will this help identify? thanks |
Answer: | This is called a parasitic draw and a multi step process can isolate it down to a single component. You start with checking the draw on the battery. Remove the negative terminal and set the meter to 10 AMPS with the black lead plugged into the the COM connector female on the bottom and the red plugged into 10 amp female on the far left. Clamp the black lead to the negative battery cable connector that you removed and touch the red lead to the negative terminal. If you get a reading higher than a quarter of an amp you the battery is discharging and depending on the draw it will run down over night. A tip: Make sure everything is off in the car by closing the doors and removing the bulb from courtesy engine compartment light. If the bulb is inaccessible just duct tape the switch down. Also if you entered the car to pop the hood you should wait for the computer to go back to sleep - about 20 minutes - before running the test. If there is a draw you should start isolation by pulling fuses - when you pull the right fuse the reading will drop to 1/4 amp or so. The fuse fronts a wiring harness bundle and you can see what circuits it is protecting on a schematic - first thing to check are switches on the bundle and any after market additions to the harness. Most times it will be an open switch but a poor installation of additional lights or accessories is also a high suspect spot for a short. If a switch replace it or even just open it (turn it off). If a short you need to isolate the individual circuit on the harness bundle. Short isolation is a difficult time consuming task and rather than describe it I recommend that you watch this video on YOUTUBE. It is the best I have found for going all the way to the source of a short. Second tip is to have a helper with the fuse pulling and remember that some vehicles have 2 or 3 fuse boxes. GOOD LUCK, this is time consuming but not rocket science. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5zLxD74r20 |
Question: | Does it have a beep function to check connections |
Answer: | If you're referring to the Testing for Continuity function -- yes. "The buzzer sounds if the resistance of a circuit under test is less than 70 ohms". |

User questions & answers
Question: | How small of DC current can this measure? 5mA and lower |
Answer: | I'm afraid not. According to the instruction manual, in the lowest DC current range (60.00A) the resolution is 10mA. The accuracy is +/-(2.0% + 8 digits). |
Question: | Can these test between 3 phase circuits? Thanks |
Answer: | Yes it can, I don't trust it to do it because of the jumps in voltage that happens when it is lightly tapped |
Question: | Does it come with a case |
Answer: | Yes, Klein does package this meter to be included with a case. |
Question: | Does this meter handle run/start capacitors in hvac work |
Answer: | Yes this meter and Fluke 324 check capacitance, but the Fluke 324 will NOT check Max amperage nor starting amperage of an air conditioning compressor like this meter does. The Fluke 325 does but is almost $300. |

Product description
The Leviton Mini Meter line of revenue-grade meters meets all measurement and verification-based opportunities - including load management and LEED rating achievement. Designed to provide a simple and effective process for accurately capturing measurements of power consumption, Mini Meters are easy to specify and install for new construction and retrofits. Leviton meters utilize highly accurate current transformers for revenue-grade performance certified to ANSI standards. Competing products use current sensors that do not provide the same level of performance. Leviton offers CTs in solid and split core styles to accommodate all phases of installation and construction. Solid core CTs are ideal for new construction, when power is not live and wires can easily be threaded through the core. Split core CTs can be installed at any time without having to disconnect wire terminations, making them the optimal choice for retrofitting an existing structure. Split core CTs close securely for fast, precise installation with no need for time-consuming tie wraps and no worries about improper seating or core half separation. Both solid and split core CTs offer high quality, long term accuracy and reliability. Every Mini Meter has an installer-friendly feedback feature. The red reverse phase indicator acts as an installation diagnostics tool and illuminates if a meter is improperly installed. After installation, the green duty cycle light shows that the meter is collecting electric consumption data at the appropriate rate. All 100 and 200 Amp solid core CTs have color-coded labels to easily identify and correctly land the wires at the meter. Use Mini Meters in multi-tenant residential and certain commercial industrial applications for load profiling and benchmarking, AMR/BAS/BMS/EMS integration, Usage aggregation, tenant cost allocation, measurement and verification, energy conservation and cost reduction, green building initiatives and Government mandates.
- Measures kWh
- Utilizes revenue-grade 0.3% accuracy class 0.1A secondary solid core current transformers (CTs) that conform to all applicable ANSI requirements
- Up to three sets of CTs per phase can be paralleled per meter without the need for a meter multiplier
