Answer:	NO! It is, and the specs say, it is for 120vac. House wiring is 120vac. If you are wondering about 220vac, then you are probably thinking (giving you the latitude here, that you know about 220vac house service (which can be either 2 or 3 phase). Only one of those phases is used within the normal house receptacles. Even if you just look at the regular 3 prong plug between the two larger devices, you will see that is is the expected 120vac plug. A 220vac plug looks quite a lot different. Anyone trying to diagnose the (2 or 3) multi-phase service would typically just diagnose one phase at a time. So this *could* be used to troubleshoot 220vac - AS LONG AS you are just diagnosing *one phase at a time*. If you don't have clue as to what I have just spoken about then leave it alone! You are, in the least, going to waste your money, or burn out something, and at worst, possibly burn your house down. Get an electrician to help you out.

Answer:	Yes! Do this at your own risk, obviously. For some of the circuits in my house, the signal from the transmitter was too weak for the detector to pick it up through the breaker switch itself, but scanning the wires always worked.

Answer:	It's configured for 120 though you'd have to read the specs to see a out 240.

Question:	Can this be used to trace Ethernet wiring
Answer:	Yes, it could but it may be over-specified for that function unless you need to find the Ethernet cables buried deep in a wall or perhaps behind foil backed dry-wall material or similar. The 508S is more intended for tracing power cables in the home and similar. You would probably be better off with our 601K-G or 701K-G wire tracers or, if you are doing a few checks on the Ethernet cables as well as tracing them, the Tempo NC-100 or NC-500 which diagnoses wiring trouble and also apply tracing tones which can be used with one of Tempo's tone probes.
Question:	How do I use this to trace a power circuit
Answer:	The 508S-G is a kit that allows you to find, follow and identify “hidden” cables. Whether those cables are inside walls (behind drywall or wood) or buried in the soil, the signal that is applied by the transmitter can be followed with the receiver and its search coil to the destination. To trace power circuits, set the transmitter to “PLUG” and use the AC adapter lead to plug into the 110V outlet. Holding the receiver coil flat on the wall with it’s long axis at 90 degrees to the likely cable direction, start about 5 ft from the transmitter and move back and forth across and around on the wall. There will be a peak directly over the cable being traced. You can even use it to identify which circuit breaker in the panel is for the circuit you’re tracing – the signal will be loudest over the breaker. Hook up to dead wires using the alligator clip lead or plug into a 110V outlet.
Question:	Can I find the depth of a buried cable
Answer:	Sort of. The signal will be strongest when the receiver is pointed at the wire or pipe, so you can somewhat triangulate the depth. I say somewhat because It's not highly precise in terms of directionality.

Answer:	If I understand your question, sort of. Ael this does is ID the circuit breaker that controls an outlet. It doesn't work well with GFCI protected circuits and not at all if you try to trace through a sub panel. At best, in my house, It gave me a clue. The cicuit you are trying to trace MUST be live.

Answer:	Only the handheld receiver requires a battery which requires no tools to change. The emitter is powered by the electrical current when it is plugged into the circuit. Device works well for me once I remembered that some of the two plug outlets have the upper plug controlled by a wall switch which must be on for the device to work.

Answer:	I'm not an electrician but I would bet most electricians would like to see you use a continuity tester on circuit breakers. This circuit breaker tester does an excellent job of identifying circuit breakers. If you follow the directions, then you will be able to identify close to 100% of unidentified circuit breakers. You must follow the directions to the letter.
