Question: | Will this verison of the hub (2242-222) work / integrate with amazon's echo? if so how do you get it to work |
Answer: | This can be triggered/armed from any other Insteon device (Sensors and switches) however for best results you would want to use an Insteon Hub (2245-222) along side the devices to configure units. |

The Serial Insteon PowerLinc Modem is a serial-based home automation interface that allows PC- and hardware-based automation controllers to control Insteon -compatible lights, appliances, heating/air conditioning systems and alarm systems directly via the Insteon network. This home automation interface uses simple RS-232 commands, allowing any device with a programmable serial port to send Insteon commands easily, making controllers such as SimpleHomeNet's and Universal Devices' IP bridges instantly Insteon compatible. The dual-band interface sends and receives both powerline and radio frequency (RF) Insteon signals, so it doubles as an Access Point. User questions & answers
Question: | Does the 2413s work with amazon echo |
Answer: | Yes, the open/close sensor is compatible with other hub devices besides the Insteon Hub (INSTEON 2242-222 Hub). Whatever hub/controller device you choose still has to be compatible with the Insteon protocol, as the sensor only knows how to talk "Insteon", not Z-Wave or WiFi. Examples of other home automation hubs/controllers are the ISY994i and the Mi Casa Verde VeraLite. The Smarthings Hub is NOT compatible with this, as it only works with WiFi, Zigbee, and Z-Wave devices. |
Question: | Is this for sure the 2.3 revision |
Answer: | No, this unit would require use of an Instoen Hub. It is not compatible with NVR systems. |
Question: | If I use an INSTEON "2413S" to connect to an INSTEON "ISY-994i" controller, can the 2413S detect and pass on to the controller X10 wireless RF signals? Can the 2413S send X10 wireless RF commands |
Answer: | The INSTEON Hidden Door Sensor uses INSTEON over RF only and will not work with SmartThings which is Zigbey and Z-Wave only. The Revolv hub supports Zigbey, Z-Wave, INSTEON and a few other standards. My installation is currently INSTEON & some legacy X10 only. I have been very pleased with the performance of the INSTEON products. . |
Question: | What is the hardware version for the device I will receive? The version number is displayed on the plug side of the device |
Answer: | It comes with a Lithium battery installed and is supposed to be good for 10 years. We just purchased within the last 6 months so don't have any long term results. I do know that most smoke alarms are employing the same battery with a 10 year life span. |

User questions & answers
Question: | how does this work if the outlet it's plugged into is also controlled by a wall switch |
Answer: | This is an older kit that has been discontinued for some time. The hub that comes in this kit is 2242-222 which does not support Amazon Alexa, automatic remote access, and other third party integrations (Logitech, Stringify, etc). We recommend buying the Insteon Starter Kit (2244-234) or Insteon Hub by itself (2245-222) and building your system from there. |
Question: | Do I need the hub to use this with the echo |
Answer: | It is work within my house network but not over the Internet, don't why. |
Question: | Will this work with amazon echo without the hub |
Answer: | I do not believe so, however, you are really not missing much. The Insteon interface for cameras could use some work so you will probably want to use something else to view/control them. The Insteon cameras are actually older version Foscams. I have been able to get my old and new Foscams to work with the Insteon hub, but the interface only gives you the pan/tilt functions. I don't know about your DLinks, but for the Foscam there is a laundry list of features that are not supported (most important to me is the ability to turn alerts on/off.) |
Question: | Is the controlled outlet 2-prong or 3-prong (grounded |
Answer: | It will alert via the hub app. In your scenes you can add additional ways to get Alerts like email and if you know your txt address like [email protected] it will txt your phone |

User questions & answers
Question: | Anyone know if this dual-band module responds to on/off X10 commands? Insteon says "many" do |
Answer: | Yes. I'm using my Echo with an ISY 994i, 3 switch links and 2 lamp links without any problems. |
Question: | Does this unit show consumption in use similar to zwave power brick when paired with isy |
Answer: | We can only guarantee it will be the latest revision (2.3) when you buy from ‘ships from and sold by Amazon’ - Smarthome also sells the latest revision. |
Question: | Some descriptions say "works with alexa via bridge" and others say "works with alexa via insteon hub." are they the same thing |
Answer: | Will an INSTEON PowerLinc (PLM part #2413S) receive X10 RF signals? No. But, X10 (dual-band) RF/power-line receiver/transmitter units (like CM15A, PAT01, and TM751) would receive signals transmitted by the X10 RF transmitter/receivers which would be then be received and retransmitted (without repeats) by a 2413S. Will an INSTEON PowerLinc (PLM part #2413S) receive and send X10 power-line signals? Yes. Basic X10 messages, but not X10 Extended messages. The PLM sends the received X10 power line data to the controller connected to it for processing. The controller connected to it can also have it send X10 power line signals to X10 devices in your home. If using an ISY-994i controller, the ISY-994i sends and receives X10 power line commands with no problems. An EZX10RF can also be used to receive X10 RF signals from up to 200 feet away and it will rebroadcast the signals on your power lines. It decodes all 256 X10 house/unit signals, any of which can be filtered out if you desire. X10 RF codes can be transmitted as X10 powerline commands or the internal translator can convert the signal to INSTEON commands. |
Question: | do you need an insteon hub |
Answer: | In order to guarantee that you receive the latest version of this device (Rev 2.3), you must purchase from Amazon directly (ships and sold by Amazon) and not 3rd party sellers. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this control an inductive load like a transformer or motor? I want to plug in a transformer for low voltage outdoor lighting |
Answer: | You would need to keep the light switch controlling the outlet on at all times for the Insteon On/Off Module to work correctly. If the switch is turned off and that turns off power to the outlet, the Insteon device will not have the power it needs to function. |
Question: | Can I use the app Jinvoo Smart to controller this product |
Answer: | Yes. You would need some sort of Insteon controller like the Hub or one of the ISY devices. I'm not positive how these integrate into the Amazon Echo, so I would verify that as well. |
Question: | Does it work with SmartThings hub |
Answer: | No |
Question: | Is this outlet gfci and safe to use in a bathoom |
Answer: | Image shows a 2-prong outlet. |

When the Insteon Garage Control & Status Kit is used with the Insteon Hub (2245-222), you will always know whether you forgot to close the garage door. If you already own an Insteon Hub (2245-222) and want to add garage door control, this kit gets you everything you need to get you controlling the garage door from your smartphone. This kit includes an Insteon I/O Linc (2450), magnetic contacts to detect whether the door is open or closed, and plenty of wires for interfacing the IOLinc to your garage door opener. In addition, this kit allows control and status from Insteon Keypads (such as model 2334-232). **IMPORTANT** this kit is compatible with traditional 2-wire garage door openers that DO NOT have a panel display. Also, the I/O Linc communicates via powerline only, which may require additional Insteon devices or Insteon repeaters for smaller systems.
- Remotely monitor and control (open and close) your garage door using any Insteon controller (sold separately)
- Includes sensors that provide status on whether the garage door is open or closed
- Compatible with traditional 2-wire garage openers only - if your garage control button features a display panel, this kit is not compatible
- Can be used without an Insteon Hub (2245-222) - included Insteon I/O Linc module (2450) communicates over powerline only, which may cause issues if you are trying to remotely operate your garage from Insteon devices on a different electrical phase (circuit) or from an Insteon Mini Remote
- Recommend adding a Range Extender (2992-222) on the same phase to bridge the I/O Linc module with Insteon RF-only or Dual-band devices

Insteon 2450 I/O Linc - Plug-in Low Voltage / Contact Closure Interface (1 in / 1 out)
The Insteon I/O Linc lets you monitor and control any low voltage devices such as alarm sensors, electric door strikes, and contact closures as part of your Insteon home automation network. With one dry-contact sensor input you can control many Insteon devices throughout the house. Plus, use the built-in single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switch and connect any low voltage-powered device for continuous or momentary operation. Create your own remote-control door lock using an electric door strike and power supply, or use a security sensor to turn Insteon controlled lights on or off. I/O Linc acts as a repeater for all powerline Insteon signals, is compatible with Insteon and X10 products, and has a pass-through outlet for other AC devices.
Remote Control and 4 Output Relay Modes
Monitor and control pool valves, electric door strikes, garage doors, and more using your Insteon network.
Control and integrate many different types of devices to control Insteon lights and appliances using standard sensors.
Required Accessories
- Sensor wire: 16 - 28 gauge wire fits, but 20 - 22 gauge recommended
- www.smarthome.com/20-foot-2-conductor-22-gauge-awg-interconnect-wire-white.html
*The I/O Linc module communicates over powerline only, which may cause issues if you are trying to remotely operate Insteon devices on a different electrical phase (circuit) or from a Mini Remote (2342-xxx). We recommended adding a Insteon Range Extender (2992-222) on the same phase to bridge the I/O Linc with Insteon RF-only or Dual-Band devices.
Dual-Band Technology
Insteon is the only home control technology that uses both wireless and your home's powerlines to create a robust network that can easily handle common household interference from microwaves and WiFi or signal blockades like concrete, masonry or steel studs.
Mesh Network
With Insteon, every device can repeat messages across the network, eliminating the bottlenecks that occur when a single device fails in a routed network. And because Insteon is Dual-Band, the mesh network extends over both wireless and wired Insteon devices.
Peer-to-Peer
In an Insteon network, there are no routers or administrative devices. Each device can control (or be controlled) by each other device without any complicated hierarchy of device profiles.

This increases reliability not only for the dimmer but for all devices on an Insteon home control network (similar to the function of an access point). The switching installs like a traditional wall switch with the exception of requiring connection to neutral. Most homes have a neutral wire available (see how to check if I have neutral wires). Once installed, setup is quick and easy. using a simple plug-n-tap programming.

Control from your Smartphone
With Insteon switches and an Insteon Hub, you'll never be in the dark again. Turn on the house lights when you pull into the driveway late at night. Heard a bump in the night? Turn on the lights from your smartphone before venturing out of bed.
Control with Schedules
You already know how convenient scheduling your lights can be - chances are, you do it every winter with your holiday decorations. With Insteon switches and an Insteon Hub, you can create schedules that make your life easier. Schedule bedroom lights to gently fade on in the morning to help schedule. In the evening, make it appear as if someone was home, fending off would-be burglars. Or if you're worried about lights that get left on all day long, configure a schedule to turn off the lights that are always forgotten on.
Save Energy
Reduce energy consumption by setting Dimmer Switch to only turn on at 80% whether turned on at the switch or through the app. You can also customize the speed at which the lights turn on and off. It's great for movie time scenes, gently waking you up in the morning or giving you time to see your way down an hall on your way to bed. Flexible Installation
Replaces Most Switches
Insteon Dimmer Switch replaces most standard wall switches in minutes; just connect your existing switch's line and load wires and attach the neutral wire from your junction box.
Don't have a neutral wire? See the Insteon 2-Wire Dimmer Switch (2474DWH). Want just an on/off switch? Check out the Insteon On/Off Switch (2477S). Looking for specific colors or need a higher wattage? View our line of Insteon Wall Switches in the chart below!
Multi-way Enabled
Insteon switches don't require a dedicated traveler wire for 3- and 4-way configurations. As a matter of fact, you can link as many Insteon switches together as you'd like for unlimited multi-way switching - no new wiring required.
Ultra Reliable
Other connected home switches use Wi-Fi or other radio-only signals. Insteon utilizes a patented dual-band mesh technology that communicates over both existing power lines and a wireless radio for unparalleled reliability.
