Question:	What is the widest opening to clamp on
Answer:	Without the surge protection I would not do so. I am assuming you are referring to a power conditioner. If the UPS had surge protection I would say it would be okay. Every big dollar item in my house uses an UPS with surge protection and a power strip to handle all the items usually hooked up with them. I have not lost anything with this combination.
