User questions & answers
Question: | Does this require a c wire? why does it need aaa batteries |
Answer: | No need to have a Honeywell gateway for the Honeywell rth6580wf. You only need a wireless Internet modem dsl/broadband service phone line. |
Question: | Will this work with the nest remote temperature sensors |
Answer: | I found this information on another website (http://programmablethermostat.info/honeywell-rth6580wf-wi-fi-7-day-programmable-thermostat/)Real Time Clock:This thermostat does NOT have an internal battery. All program and installer set up functions are saved on to a chip and retained in case of a power outage. It does utilize a super capacitor for short term retention of the clock. If there is a lengthy power outage and if the RTH6580WF is connected to the internet, when power is restored it will automatically resynchronize with the internet time. |
Question: | I have 4 wires, 1st wire is w/ 2nd y/3rd is g/4th is rh will this thermostat work with these wires |
Answer: | If you have no Internet, this thermostat will simply operate as a non-WiFi enabled programmable thermostat (e.g., follow the schedule that you previously created) OR you use the buttons on it to adjust it manually. The only thing you lose with not having the Internet is the ability to use your phone to interact with it (e.g., change the settings and/or update the schedule). Just pretend like it is 1970 and adjust the thermostat like your parents did. |
Question: | Does this work with the nest temperature sensor |
Answer: | I did the following in a two-wire heat-only setup and it worked: 1) On the back panel of the new thermostat, remove the small jumper between the RC and R connectors. 2) Connect the outputs of a 24V AC transformer (I happened to use https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DJ7RHS5?ref=ppx_pt2_dt_b_prod_image) to the RC and C connectors on the new thermostat back panel. It does not matter which of these two wires goes to RC and which goes to C. 3) Connect the wire that had gone to either RC or R on the old thermostat to the R connector on the new thermostat back panel. Connect the wire that had gone to W on the old thermostat to the W connector on the new thermostat back panel. 4) Plug in the transformer to a nearby 120 V outlet. Snap the body of the new thermostat onto its back panel. Continue with the instructions provided with the new thermostat. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I am buying a nest e. do i really need to buy this sensor |
Answer: | You don't need this sensor to operate a nest thermostat. The best has a temperature sensor built in. It will take the room temperature where the nest is installed and regulates the AC based on that room. Some folks have the need to control an additional space during certain times of the day. Most common would be a bedroom during night time. With the extra sensor you can set up the AC to bring the temperature of the bedroom to a certain temperature regardless what the temperature is in the room the nest thermostat is in. So it's a comfort feature. You can try the next by itself and if you find that you want to change temperature control to your bedroom you can add it later. |
Question: | Hi my home has 5 zones do i need just one nest? or do i need one in each zone? would the sensors be good enough |
Answer: | If you are going to replace your thermostat with Nest thermostat, a one for one replacement for each thermostat. Now, if you have just one thermostat and five zones, then it implies that you are monitoring temperature and providing feedback to the thermostat for each zone. To put it simple one nest thermostat, plus sensors will give you the hability to keep one selected room at a temeprature desired. Just select the sensor you want to set as controlling. For more than one thermostat you will need the above set up multiple times. The Nest application is one the most user friendly apps I have ever used. |
Question: | How long does the battery lasts before it needs replacing |
Answer: | 2 years and still haven't had to change batteries. |
Question: | Will this work with Nest Thermostat Gen 2 with the latest software |
Answer: | Hi! Nest temperature sensor require an installed 3rd Generation Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat E. Not compatible with Nest 1st Generation or Nest 2d Generation thermostats. Hope this helps. |
Product features
Keep your home and family comfortable.
Most homes aren’t the same temperature in every room. Maybe the baby’s room gets too cold or the living room is too warm. Or maybe your thermostat is in a room where you don’t spend much time. The Nest Temperature Sensor helps make sure a certain room is just the temperature you want it to be.
How does it work?
Your sensor will tell your Nest thermostat the temperature in the room where it’s placed. Your thermostat will use that reading, rather than its own built-in sensors, to control when the system turns on or off. You can schedule it to use different sensors at different times of the day.
Compatibility.
It works with the Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen) and the Nest Thermostat E.[1]
Battery powered.
Wireless and runs on batteries, so it works in most homes. The battery can last up to two years.
Comfort from room to room.
Put temperature sensors in different rooms. And choose which room to prioritize when.
Simple setup.
Just hang it on the wall or set it on a shelf. Then forget it’s even there.
Control in the Nest app.[2]
Set a schedule for your sensors or learn more about temperature readings in your home.
Where should I install it?
In most homes, it’s best to install your sensor in a room where you spend a lot of time, like a bedroom or living room. Place it near chest height for the most accurate temperature measurement. And make sure it’s within 50 feet of your thermostat so they can communicate.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this thermostat come with a rectangular wall plate |
Answer: | I do not see how it could be used like a step ladder. |
Question: | Does the sensor need to be wired? Or is it wireless |
Answer: | It does not have to be fully extended. Pull up from the rung closest from the bottom to lock at any short of length. Very happy with this ladder |
Question: | I want to use this to replace a thermostat for an AC only system, three wires available. Is that doable without wiring changes |
Answer: | The thickness of top pipe ladder is around 1.6inches, and the thickness of the bottom pipe is around 2.4inches. Regards, Terokota Support Team |
Question: | I have a horribly placed thermostat right above a gas wall heater. Will this run off the sensor or still trip to cut off when gas heater is on |
Answer: | 6.6FT telescoping ladder has 5 adjustable rungs, to open the ladder from the top rung, so 1+5=6rungs, one rung may take 5~8seconds, so it may take you around 30~48 seconds. Plus to check locking buttons in right position, normally 1~2mins is enough to open the ladder fully. Regards, Terokota Support Team. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will the main unit shut off the AC, when the sensor reaches the set temperature on the main unit, or the sensor has no influence on the main unit |
Answer: | You can see it on "Cool to Dry" mode, but it uses your air-conditioning to regulate the humidity. This can be expressive because it may cool beyond the temp you set |
Question: | Will this work with Alexa |
Answer: | it's mechanical,so water shouldn't interfere with operation. My concern would be with premature rusting of the internal parts, like timer spring and valve and release mechanism. I believe these timers are designed to get wet, just not stay wet. |
Question: | I have a home Florida and leave for the summer. Will this control the humidity like a humidistat |
Answer: | There are no settings. It is merely an automatic shut off. The device needs a person to turn the dial to how many minutes before it shuts off. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you program just the fan mode |
Answer: | Hi there, this unit REQUIRES an internet connection, based on a WiFi (wireless) connection. Once the device establishes an internet connection to the Honeywell cloud (which is cool!) you can effectively control the thermoostat from anywhere you have an internet connection.... even your smartphone. Enjoy! |
Question: | Is it smart enough to decide whether to run the heater or cooler to keep the temperature fixed |
Answer: | The WiFi setup requires you to create an account on mytotalconnectcomfort.com. It’s not that hard. The biggest problem with this thermostat is the unreliable remote connectivity ever since Honeywell spun off their thermostat division 6 months ago. Now it’s frequent periods of time where the thermostat will not respond to remote commands. It’s maddening |
Question: | What if i have a C wire |
Answer: | When you put it on circulate, the fan comes on for about 10 minutes every 20 minutes or so. The owners manual says it runs about 35% of the time. I used this feature this Fall with the system off (no heat or a/c) just to circulate the air through my Filtrete filters. |
Question: | Can you create a fan schedule? I’d like the fan to always run from 10pm until 6am |
Answer: | These thermostats are not the same. Even the screen is different. The RTH9580 doesn't have the 3D look of the 9300 series. |
