User questions & answers
Question: | Do I need to have a Honeywell gateway? This is an additional piece of hardware used by some of the Honeywell thermostats (ex. Prestige |
Answer: | This Thermostat truly Rocks!! - It has a screen lock as well as Security codes for front panel access. It also has security if you want to use WiFi to remotely access it. Setup is a breeze also. I HIGHLY recommend this thermostat. The NEST is an excellent choice as well. |
Question: | Without battery backup, what happens in a power outage? Is there internal memory that keeps the settings and how long, and is thermostat still usable |
Answer: | What's Google home? |
Question: | What happens to the room temperature when the internet is down |
Answer: | I have a 5 year old Lux Thermostat. When we bought a new Rheem this past summer, the technician pulled the batteries out of it saying they were not needed. End result, is every time we have a power outage, the thermostat looses it's programming. it losses it when we change back and forth from heat to cool also. I'd be wary of any advice about removing batteries unless you're sure that it does not affect the thermostat memory. i say this as the A/C is on and it's program is set on 72 degrees. i had it set on 75 and have not attempted to reprogram it since that would be just a temporary fix it resets down to 72 often not sure why. |
Question: | How do I figure out if this will work with my wiring? I read that there might be issues with the electric wires (might be missing one COMMON wire |
Answer: | I just went to Best Buy to play with the RTH9585WF and see what is the difference in the settings. Color options do seem to be slightly different. Both have 7 day programing (four settings per day) plus vacation etc. The literature says the 9585 automatically switches between cool/heat but in 9585 system (MODE) there is only "heat", "cool" and "off". So my guess is the automatic is not a setting you pick. 9560 offers the forth option of automatic and will show heat and cool adjustments on the home page setting on the panel. Other than that I do not see any difference. My guess is the 9585 has a newer chip set but honestly I have no idea. I called Honeywell and the tech could not even tell me the difference other than it's the second generation model. Both work with Alexa and other smart devices and smart hubs. I'm still thinking of returning the 9580 for the 9585 but if I have to switch between heat and cold that is a deal breaker and I kind of like seeing the date when I walk buy. My guess is in a few years Honeywell will over a unit to compete with the Ecobee with something like Alexa built into it. Frankly, I'd purchase the Ecobeen 4 but my wife of 35 years thought the Ecobeen being black and kind of large and the white mounting plate was ugly and after 35 years of marriage I felt like this decision was not worth the fight. |

Question: | will this unit activate zone valve daily to prevent valve sticking when not in use |
Answer: | It doesn't seem the AM/PM indicator is a sensible size -- which seems to be a problem on just about all thermostats. The Honeywell's for example is just over 1 mm high (1/25th of an inch -- totally ridiculous) Note to manufacturers: It does actually matter whether it is AM or PM. The M is redundant. The text could have been twice the size without any other changes. But it should be the same size as the time characters. It is just as important to know AM/PM as the time. Please explain why anyone would think otherwise, and how anyone came up with the current mess of product designs. There is no reason to make it impossibly small to read. Functionality is key to design. Being able to read it is a pretty basic required functionality. By the looks of it, you will almost certainly have problems trying to figure out which half of the day you are programming it for. Sadly, there appear to be no viable alternatives. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work with honeywell th6320r1004 thermostat directly? Do I still need the redlink base station |
Answer: | I have to use this brand as a the "master control" and yes it controls the damper |
Question: | Can you use more than one remote for two zones |
Answer: | Swing problem. When I set the temperature to 71 the thermostat will reach 71 but it does not stop testing. The flame Icon will remain on for 3-5 min and it keeps heating. Making the other rooms heat up to 75-80 . I used this unit all summer long for A/C and it worked great. If I set it to 72, when the temperature of 72 was reached the unit would stop cooling at 72. The cool Icon would turn off at the set temperature and the system would stop cooling. Couldn't be happier with it for cooling . Love thermostat, just need to figure out how to make it work better for heating, |
Question: | i thought it also controled the fan opperations |
Answer: | no, back light turns off about 10 seconds after last button is pressed |
Question: | Hi, does this come with a Base thermostat and a portable one? Meaning, does it come with one that goes where the one I have now is,and a portable one |
Answer: | You will need to reset the time and date, but no reprogramming is required. All programming and settings are stored and retained in the event of battery replacement. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this thermostat be set in degrees Celsius |
Answer: | No. You need the redlink base station. |
Question: | Is there an indicator when the battery is low |
Answer: | No you cannot. Also, one zone cannot be controlled by two remotes. |
Question: | I want to see the reading in the dark. Does it have a light? If it times out, can I turn it on without pressing the temperature button |
Answer: | Larry, I don't think that's correct. I just installed mine yesterday to a Honeywell TH8320R1003 and the remote has no feature available to turn off/on/or auto the fan. On page 7 of the user manual it even states "Fan operation and program schedules can be changed only at the themorstat" |
Question: | I googled 83501-24N rA(2)1.pdf and could not find it on the web to download the manual. Where can I get the manual |
Answer: | No. This comes with a base station that u wire in where your old thermostat was and a thermostat that can be mounted on a wall in another room which saves you from running all new wires to a new desired location, but u can order a remote thermostat with it that sits on a dresser which is called the Honeywell REM5000R1001 portable comfort control. I purchased this too on amazon for around $90. Works great... |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this 3 phase |
Answer: | No It is not 3 phase, but it is 220 volts and not 115 volts, to wire it it needs two hot wires and a ground, I said ground, being AC current the two hot wires alternately act as a neutral. With 115 volts you would need one hot wire, one neutral wire, and a ground wire. This furnace will work on 220 volts only. |
Question: | What's the BTU output |
Answer: | Manual says 21,311 to 25,589 BTU per hour. |
Question: | I have a 28x32 garage with 10 foot ceilings. Side walls are insulated and drywalled and ceilings are just drywalled. With this work in there |
Answer: | I have this heater in my garage which is 40 x 30 feet with 12 foot ceiling. The walls are cement block which are sand insulated.this heater does a great job in my garage. It heats up quickly and well controlled heat temps. Would not trade it for any other kind of heat or heater. I give it a high rating and am a very satisfied customer. |
Question: | How many amp service breaker does this need ? Is 20 Amp service okay |
Answer: | This is not a subject of opinion; it is a very specific matter, lest one burn to death in a fire. Whatever or whomever suggests anything else, is dead wrong! Ohm's Law is a fundamental law of physics, and the NEC governs everything! Amperage is calculated by dividing Wattage of the appliance by manufacturer's stated Voltage supply. Period. Street voltage can run from 220 to 240, so always go with the higher, and the current must never exceed the breaker, or it will do its job and break to prevent overload. 10,000 Watts divided by 240 Volts equals 41.6 Amps. This unit requires a 50 Amp breaker. Wire size is determined by load, length and material of the conductor. #6 AWG copper or #4 AWG will serve up to 165 feet with an NEC maximum allowance of 3% voltage drop from the source. A longer run will require #4 and #3 respectively. One CANNOT use any such thing as a 30 Amp or 40 Amp conductor or breaker! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you program just the fan mode |
Answer: | Hi there, this unit REQUIRES an internet connection, based on a WiFi (wireless) connection. Once the device establishes an internet connection to the Honeywell cloud (which is cool!) you can effectively control the thermoostat from anywhere you have an internet connection.... even your smartphone. Enjoy! |
Question: | Is it smart enough to decide whether to run the heater or cooler to keep the temperature fixed |
Answer: | The WiFi setup requires you to create an account on mytotalconnectcomfort.com. It’s not that hard. The biggest problem with this thermostat is the unreliable remote connectivity ever since Honeywell spun off their thermostat division 6 months ago. Now it’s frequent periods of time where the thermostat will not respond to remote commands. It’s maddening |
Question: | What if i have a C wire |
Answer: | When you put it on circulate, the fan comes on for about 10 minutes every 20 minutes or so. The owners manual says it runs about 35% of the time. I used this feature this Fall with the system off (no heat or a/c) just to circulate the air through my Filtrete filters. |
Question: | Can you create a fan schedule? I’d like the fan to always run from 10pm until 6am |
Answer: | These thermostats are not the same. Even the screen is different. The RTH9580 doesn't have the 3D look of the 9300 series. |
