4 best home furnaces

Home furnaces are essential heating systems commonly used in residential buildings to provide warmth during colder months. These furnaces are a part of the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system and play a crucial role in maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature.

  1. Types of Furnaces:

    • Gas Furnaces: These are the most common type and use natural gas or propane to produce heat. They are known for their efficiency and relatively lower operational costs.
    • Electric Furnaces: These use electricity as their heat source. While they are simpler to install and maintain, they tend to be less energy-efficient compared to gas furnaces.
    • Oil Furnaces: Oil furnaces burn heating oil to generate heat. They are less common today due to environmental concerns and the prevalence of natural gas.
  2. Furnace Components:

    • Heat Exchanger: This component is responsible for transferring heat from the heat source to the air that will be circulated through the home.
    • Blower Motor: It circulates the heated air through the ductwork and into various rooms of the house.
    • Thermostat: The thermostat controls when the furnace turns on and off to maintain the desired temperature.
    • Burner: In gas and oil furnaces, the burner is where the fuel is ignited and burned to produce heat.
    • Filter: Furnace filters are essential for maintaining indoor air quality by trapping dust, allergens, and other particles. They should be regularly replaced to ensure proper airflow and system efficiency.
    • Ductwork: This is the network of pipes or channels that distribute the heated air throughout the house.
  3. Furnace Filters:

    • Furnace filters come in various types, including fiberglass, pleated, electrostatic, and HEPA filters. Each type has a different level of filtration efficiency.
    • Regularly changing the furnace filter is crucial for maintaining good indoor air quality and ensuring the furnace operates efficiently.
    • Filters are typically rated with a MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) to indicate their filtration capabilities.
  4. Furnace Parts and Accessories:

    • Various components of a furnace, like the blower motor, igniter, flame sensor, and control board, may require replacement over time.
    • Accessories such as programmable thermostats, humidifiers, and UV air purifiers can enhance the performance and efficiency of a furnace.
  5. HVAC Systems:

    • Home furnaces are often part of a larger HVAC system, which includes air conditioning and ventilation components to regulate temperature and air quality throughout the year.
  6. Building Supplies and Tools:

    • When installing or repairing a furnace, you may need building supplies like ductwork, insulation, and sheet metal.
    • Tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and multimeters are essential for maintenance and repairs.

In conclusion, home furnaces are integral to maintaining a comfortable indoor environment, and their efficiency and reliability depend on regular maintenance, including the replacement of filters and worn-out parts. It's essential to choose the right type of furnace and components to meet your heating needs and to consult with HVAC professionals for installation and maintenance tasks.

Nordic Pure 16x25x1 MERV 12 Pleated AC Furnace Air Filters 6 Pack

Nordic Pure

Based on 5 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Nordic Pure MERV 12 Pleated AC Furnace Air Filters provide exceptional filtration for both home and commercial environments. Each time air passes through a Nordic Pure pleated furnace air filter, lint, dust, pollen, bacteria, pet dander, dust mites, mold spores, smoke particles, virus carriers, allergens and other contaminants are removed. MERV 12 furnace filters are comparable to HVAC filters with the rating of MPR 1500-1900 or FPR 9. While different companies use different scales to measure the air filter’s efficiency, Nordic Pure chose to follow the industry standard, MERV, as developed by ASHRAE (the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioner Engineers). No matter the name of the rating, the efficiency of all air filters is rated according to the same criteria as set forth by ASHRAE.  Nordic Pure furnace air conditioner filters are manufactured using a heavy duty, moisture resistant beverage board frame. As with all Nordic Pure furnace air conditioner filters, the material is electrostatically charged to attract unwanted particles. The media used will not promote the growth of bacteria or mold on the air filter and is better at trapping airborne particles than fiberglass filters. Our attention to the smallest of details results in a healthier living space. For fresh, clean air in your home and office, it is important to regularly change your AC filter, especially during home improvements. We recommend changing your HVAC furnace filter every 1-3 months, depending on your unique home or office environment. People with pets or those who suffer from allergies should change their A/C air filters more often. Replacing your air filter regularly not only improves indoor air quality, it helps your HVAC unit perform more efficiently.  Important Note: Almost all air condition filters have a different Actual Size (the exact dimensions) than Nominal Size (the name) printed on the air conditioning filter. It is best to measure the exact size of your A/C filter and compare it to our Actual Size to be sure your HVAC replacement filter fits!

From the Manufacturer

Nordic Pure 16x25x1 MERV 12 Pleated AC Furnace Air Filters: Actual Size: 15-1/2-Inch by 24-1/2-Inch by 3/4-Inch. Changing your air filter is the first step in insuring your HVAC system runs at its optimal level this season. Generally, you should change your 4-Inch air filters every 3 to 6 months. Particles in indoor air are measured in microns, which are 1/1000 of a millimeter. A human hair is about 100 microns wide. A MERV 12 Nordic Pure air filter captures airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns! Nordic Pure air filters do not kill germs, however, the filter media does not permit the growth of bacteria or mold. As a result, it is not necessary to add any potentially irritating chemicals to the air filter to kill germs. Nordic Pure air filters are made out of an electro statically-charged synthetic material that draws airborne particulates to it like a magnet. Electrostatic filters help trap airborne particles to protect your family from allergy causing pollen, fine dust, smoke particles, airborne plant spores, bacteria, and some viruses.

  • Nominal Size: 16 x 25 x 1, Actual Size: 15 1/2 x 24 1/2 x 3/4 (15.5 x 24.5 x 0.75)
  • Attracts indoor allergens, dust, pollen and other airborne contaminants.
  • Hypoallergenic and antimicrobial pleated electrostatic filter material. Lead/Handling Time is 5
  • Nordic Pure recommends changing 1” air filters every 30-90 days

Product description

Aprilaire introduced the first evaporative humidifier for forced air furnace systems back in 1954. Since that time, Aprilaire continues to lead the industry in whole home humidification systems. Our evaporative humidifiers work by piping water into the distribution tray located at the top of the humidifier. The water is uniformly distributed across the width of the tray and through a scientifically designed system of outlets. It flows by gravity over the Water Panel evaporator. Dry, hot air from the HVAC system is moved through the moisture-laden Water Panel evaporator. Natural evaporation takes place, the water is turned to vapor, and the humidified air is circulated throughout your home. INCLUDED IN THE BOX: Installation instructions and template, humidifier with built-in bypass damper, 24 VAC transformer, automatic digital humidifier control with sensor, outdoor temperature sensor, saddle valve, solenoid valve, and Model # 10 Water Panel

User questions & answers

Question: Where are they made
Answer: When I had one of these I had to wash it with 409 and let it sit for about five minutes and then hit it with a shower head for pressure and it always came out beautifully
Question: These came in an amazon box with no wrapping of any kind. Wouldn’t it be bad for a filter to not be protected from particles
Answer: I have 2 5T units in house that uses this filter and after changing many various Mfr filters which all seemed to work comparably well and about the same in last 21+ years, never once did I ever think about counting pleats. All I ever counted was the price! Did I miss something?? Bill
Question: Do these merv 11 filters have enough air flow for any furnace
Answer: Yep
Question: Does it a Space Guard
Answer: The N95 masks are the equivalent to a MERV 16. Our MERV 13 filters are made with a 100% synthetic filter media with a wire backing glued in a cardboard frame. There are no harmful materials in the MERV 13 media itself. If you use the media it will not filter as small of a partical as the N95 but it help filter out 1.0–0.3 μm particle size. These filters can filter bacteria, droplet nuclei (sneeze), cooking oil, most smoke and insecticide dust, most face powder, and most paint pigments.
