12 best tennis strings

Tennis strings are a crucial component of a tennis racket, playing a significant role in the performance and feel of the racket. Here are some key aspects related to tennis strings:

  1. Material:

    • Natural Gut: Derived from cow intestines, natural gut strings are known for their exceptional playability, comfort, and feel. They are, however, more expensive and can be vulnerable to weather conditions.
    • Synthetic Gut: Made from nylon or other synthetic materials, these strings offer a good balance of playability, durability, and affordability. They are popular among a wide range of players.
    • Polyester: Polyester strings, often referred to as "poly," are known for their durability and ability to generate spin. They are favored by players who want control and durability but may be less forgiving on the arm.
  2. Gauge (Thickness):

    • Tennis strings come in various gauges, representing their thickness. Thicker strings (lower gauge numbers) generally offer more durability, while thinner strings (higher gauge numbers) provide more playability and spin potential.
  3. Tension:

    • String tension refers to the tightness of the strings in the racket.Higher tension typically provides more control, while lower tension offers more power and comfort. The recommended tension range is usually printed on the racket frame.
  4. String Pattern:

    • The string pattern on a racket, represented by the number of main and cross strings, influences playability. Open string patterns (fewer strings, more space between them) often provide more spin, while dense patterns (more strings, less space) offer control.
  5. Hybrid Strings:

    • Some players opt for a hybrid string setup, using different types of strings in the main and cross strings. For example, a player might use polyester strings for the mains to enhance control and natural gut or synthetic gut for the crosses to improve feel and comfort.
  6. Playability:

    • The playability of tennis strings is a subjective experience and varies from player to player. It involves a combination of factors such as feel, power, control, and comfort. Players often experiment with different string setups to find what suits their playing style.
  7. Durability:

    • The durability of tennis strings is an important consideration, especially for players who generate a lot of power or frequently hit with heavy topspin. Polyester strings are known for their durability, but they may be harsher on the arm.
  8. Arm-Friendly Strings:

    • Some strings are designed to be more forgiving on the arm, reducing the risk of tennis elbow or other arm-related injuries. Natural gut and certain multifilament synthetic strings are often considered more arm-friendly.
  9. Color:

    • While not directly impacting performance, the color of tennis strings is a personal preference for some players. Strings come in a variety of colors, allowing players to customize the appearance of their racket.

Choosing the right tennis strings involves considering factors such as material, gauge, tension, and playability, and it often requires some experimentation to find the combination that best suits an individual player's preferences and playing style.

User questions & answers

Question: what's the difference between 16g &17g
Answer: The 17g string will provide more feel of the ball and is smaller diameter than the 16g string. By being thinner the 17g will also have a tendency to break sooner than a thicker 16g string. The 18g sting is still a smaller diameter than a 17g but provides even more feel and spin than the 17g but breaks sooner. Just remember the the smaller the gauge, 16g, the LARGER the string diameter.
Question: Hi, How do I know which one I need? 16,17, or 18gr
Answer: 18 is thinnest, so most power/spin (opens the string bed) ... breaks fastest being so thin. 16 is opposite but still perfectly in the realm of 'normal' thickness. 17 is in the middle. Hard hitters - 16g (unless you string your own or don't mind restringing a lot)... others can venture out to 17-18.
Question: Will one order be enough to string two racquets
Answer: No, it is string for one racquet.
Question: how long is it
Answer: Each set has 40 feet of string.RacquetGuys

User questions & answers

Question: How long before the strings break or go bad
Answer: Theoretically yes but if it would be practical is another question, given that the poly string would also be worn and loosened somewhat.
Question: Will this work with my wilson ncode n4 oversized
Answer: It depends on the racquet head size but at least 8 and possibly 9. Most common 100 sqinch heads don't require more than 10.8 meters so you should easily be able to string 9. Good luck.
Question: Hi, can i use this for my babolat rival aero
Answer: I string this at 57 lbs on a frame with recommended between 50 & 60. RPM Blast is a poly - when I used Luxilon (before my arm fell off) I was stringing at 50 lbs. Hope this helps.
Question: How many rackeys can you string with 12m
Answer: It's a full reel of string, 660ft

User questions & answers

Question: What color are the strings
Answer: Babolat combo pack rpm blast 17+ VS 16 tennis string is NOT STRETCHED.
Question: What gauge are the stings? Roger's crosses are 17 gauge. So this is not exactly a replica
Answer: RPM/VS has been around for 4-5 years. We started out with RPM in the mains. It's our #1 selling string at our club. However, over time we changed to VS in the mains. 80% of our customers prefer VS in the mains. You get better "play/feel" but will loose durability. We typically string RRM 5-10% less in tension versus VS.
Question: What are the dimension of this item
Answer: But your not paying for feel in this string. If you have an aggressive swing, poly in the mains is what you want. It's the Poly that provides the intense spin with an aggressive swing. VS will add feel compared to 100% poly string job. This is our #1 string at our club, string 30 frames a week with VS/RPM

Answer: 660 feet or 200 meters
Question: how many rackets can you string with this
Answer: I have been using this string roll for more than a year and have been stringing with a tabletop machine. The tension I use is typically up to 60 lbs for my purposes. I have not had any string break on me while stringing. The string does compress when clamped, but that has not affected my play in any noticeable way.

TOURNA TENNIS STRING

All Tourna strings are crafted with the latest technology and are second to none in performance. The above award chart demonstrates excellence in both Poly strings as well as arm friendly multifilaments.

Tourna's Polyester strings are all made in Germany using advanced materials and including polyether, to help deliver a softer string that absorbs shock and increases comfort, while retaining incredible durability, power, resistance to movement, and tension maintenance. This blend of poly materials make it a true co-poly.

Tourna Big Hitter Poly's hold 3 of the top 5 slots for spin potential per the Racquet Sports Industry Magazine playtests. Black 7, Silver 7 Tour, and Blue Rough are in the top 5, with Black 7 as the best in spin of all strings ever tested, and still tops the charts to date. Silver 7 Tour is Black 7's stiffer counterpart and has been awarded the "Best Tension Maintenance Poly" EVER by Tennis Warehouse University Labs. Silver 7 Tour is also #3 in spin from the RSI playtests.

Tourna also makes arm friendly multifilaments that have been awarded as some of the most comfortable arm friendly strings on the market.

With the money you'll save playing with Tourna strings compared to more expensive brands, you'll be able to afford a new racquet and new shoes every couple months!!!! Play with Tourna strings with confidence and save money at the same time.

Shaped Polys

Many poly strings are shaped like the one above. Silver 7 Tour and Black 7 have seven sharp edges that bite into the ball upon impact and impart massive spin. These strings are both top 3 for Spin potential. Other shaped polys include Big Hitter Blue Rough and Big Hitter Silver Rough which have 8 sharp edges and then twisted. Tourna Grit is more of a textured poly that feels like sand paper and can really grab the ball upon impact. These Tourna polys are known for their control, low power, and spin.

Round Polys

Round poly strings are smooth and un-textured. The round nature of the string helps "snap back", which is the movement of strings upon impact. More snap back imparts more spin on the ball. Big Hitter Deuce, as shown above, is the first multi-colored infused poly giving you the best of both worlds of power and comfort. Smooth polys also are a favorite with synthetic gut and multifilaments because they don't wear the softer string down as quickly. Other round Tourna poly's include Black Zone, Big Red, Big Hitter Blue, and Big Hitter Silver. All of these Tourna Polys are meant to be softer more powerful, and easier on the arm than traditional poly strings.

Soft Synthtetic Strings

Multifilaments and Synthetic gut strings are the softest and most powerful tennis strings. Multifilaments are meant to mimic the elasticity, softness, and feel of natural gut. A favorite among players with tennis elbow. They are made with thousands of fibers, twisted together, and then dipped in a polyurethane to bond the fibers. Quasi Gut is extremely close to the feel of gut and soft on the arm. Quasi Gut Armor has tiny polyester wraps to help its durability. Synthetic Gut Armor is one of the best all around strings on the market for playability.
